Lol no one eats like that... She just runs in to everything and drops it on the floor and sits there and eat without a fork or anything?? It's not very realistic or intense.. Lol and the music playing when she looks at the food. Hahaha
I have suffered through many eating disorders. First I was a binge eater without purging. A couple years later I became anorexic and then a couple years after that I dont know exactly what I was. A mixture of anorexia and bulimia I guess because I would only eat about 0-150 calories a day an I would purge those 150 calories.
It's at its worst at night, or whenever I'm home alone, the cravings to binge and purge. Whenever I watch this movie, I rewatch this binge scene because I see so much of myself in her. When I watch her binge, I feel the same feelings I get when I'm binging. It's so realistic...
I had fits like her but i had severe stomach aches after, and a bit years ago i threw chocolate cereals when i realized i ate some too much. One day i threw everything too sweet,candies,cereals,cakes...now i eat a cake but from time to time.
Awesome but frightening!this woman eats everything she can see.Everything, from the cakes to the cream etc..she eats, eats and eats again till she's full of food.I would vomit and have a big stomach ache with so much food!!INCREDIBLE.SHe cannot stop eating everywhere she is.At home,in the stores...
I think the detail in this film is great, it's so realistic.. Like her telling people food is for her and her daughter, I do that ALL the time, and rubbing her leg when her husband is yelling at her on the phone... One of the best bulimia movies I've seen I think
bulimics are generally at a normal weight or a little above. even though their insides are being destroyed.. it can be hard to tell. however many are very thin, too.
OMG she's doing the same thing I used to do in the drive-thru... pretending to be ordering for more than one person so they don't think you're ordering all that food for yourself... though in my case, I'm morbidly obese so I have a different kind of eating disorder. I'm getting it under control now but those days are not such a distant memory...
I'm pissed off she dropped all that good food on the floor. I don't have a eating disorder so I'm mad at the waste of that good food. It's nothing like that good ol'stuffed unbutton your pants feeling especially after like Thankgiving dinner that's what makes it all so special that feeling that you & family share. I feel sorry for people that have to go through this like they always say "Eat to live Don't live to eat" don't make food your life don't let it consume you it's easier said then done.
The scene at the end of the last video, where she pushes everyone away so she can binge, I think is very truthfull. However, the scene at the beginning where she is eating with her fingers seems like overkill. I'm not saying that the urge to binge doesn't make you lose control, it's just not well portrayed here, in my opinion.
@MandiMal00 Eating with fingers was also complained about on "Perfect Body," but I've always done that. I don't binge in the traditional sense of excess (my ed dx was not bulimia) but I eat in a frenzy: random food items grabbed out of the fridge, bits torn off here and there. Something alleviates the guilt of consumption if utensils and plates weren't used, that makes it feel less planned.
Question: she's eating everything so fast, how can she possibly be enjoying it? She deprives herself of all the foods she loves, then she binges but instead of savoring anything she wolfs everything down. Why not binge on like cucumbers or something if you're not even going to enjoy those fries? Not trying to sound like a bitch; am genuinely curious.
@godzillaqueen usually when bulimics binge there not eating to enjoy the food,,there trying to stuff and avoid any emotional pain..for me personal when I binge it like a monster takes over and you have to eat as fast as you can on high fat high sugar foods, high carbs food,,because these are food that trigger the pleasure center in the brain,,as if we getting high,,and the faster you eat the more you can consume..the better the purge will be
@hope164 how can you speak for all bulimics? i have binged on food in order to enjoy it and didn't want to stop because i enjoyed it so much...and would ultimately vomit. not all bulimics eat just so they can throw up, or even feel a "high" from the purging. for me it was almost much more focused on the food itself, and the ensuing guilt would result in purging. i ate fast but i didn't suck it off my hands and practically inhale it.
Not totally true. I was bulimic for 12 years. and I did it to both get rid of emotional pain, anxiety, and the feeling I had to be perfect all the time. It was like a release of that pressure. But I also did it to satisfy just the craving for food. My body was malnutritioned and was telling me I needed to eat. Infortunately tho when you're bulimic you want the sugary carbs as well because your body's out of balance.
@godzillaqueen Well I know personally with me...when I stuff myself, I stuff on things I usually deprive myself of pasta, meat, dairy etc...and when you've starved yourself long enough you're craving those foods quite badly because you're body wants/needs them. I know that when I've eaten things I don't intend to purge but when I'm finished I'm like OMG get it out of me!!! And so I vomit it up...its a viscous cycle really.
@godzillaqueen it's not about enjoying...you enjoy the first couple of bites, after that it's all just a mechanism of suppressing your feelings, all reinforced by the immense feeling of having lost control...but the way she acts all clumsy and stuffing food down with her hand is not typical, i suppose...
lolz at her totally trashing the kitchen and throwing food everywhere - REALLY?! Eating out of the bin is a realistic thing, but unneccessarily overturning food and dropping it everywhere, uhh, NO. But then I've always been a hybrid and I guess the anorexic control freakiness even extends into my bulimic periods...
When she looks back at what she's done after she ate all that food after the party, and just says a little "Oh..."
I know exactly the disappointment she feels in herself for binging. The horror of all the calories that she just took in, and the desperate need to get rid of it. I feel sorry for her.
I am currently dealing with eating issues, still not convinced that I have an eating disorder,if I do it's the over-eating even though I'm below 100 lbs.
no kidding.. i'd give anything to be strong like an anorexic.. to be thin like that. Once I'm around that much food I try to get rid of people too so that I can binge. With my hands and off the floor too.. :( I hate puking and I hate that I make myself puke. Why can't I have better control?
I love how she eats food off the floor and doesnt care that she left all of that mess in the kitchen when she binges. I'm SUPER secretive when I binge and I try to hide ALL the evidence of me binging so no one in the house knows what I did
i don't think this is very realistic, i mean bulimics do eat pretty fast but it's not like they throw everything around and go crazy like her, i mean she even ate the leaves of the strawberry ... it's very over the top, believe me, i know about bulimia, i've been there myself....
I want to get some advice in here. I am doing a project on honesty, do you think this could be one of the movies included in my project? I want to stress that dishonest acts carried out under the influence of mental illness should be understood
I've never "really" been bulemic so I can't completely understand the binging thing. (I'm the opposite, lol - I don't eat the food most of the time and try to make sure no one notices.) If I'm having a REALLY bad time of it, tho - like in a restaruant or something where it's just too hard to hide, I will eat more than I want to and just think about gross things until at least half of it comes back up. I figure if I keep a little food going in every day, I'm not doing too bad.... EDs SUCK!!!
@misssyellow17 She's lying in order to make it seem as though she has a legitimate reason as to why she's buying all of that food. She also says the same thing to the guy in the drive-thru.
the scene at the start is a bit over the top. we usually try to make it look like we haven't even touched the food, not carelessly let huge platters of food smash all over the floor. i understand the loss of control and trance like state when you binge, but i'm usually a bit more careful and discrete about it. never the less, bulimia is horrible. i just want to be normal.
It's REALLY nice seeing a movie about someone I can relate to with bulimia. All the other films like this are high school girls or athletes. The scene where she goes to the convenience store and then the drive through on a binging spree hits so hard with me. Especially when she can't decide what to order and asks "What else did she want?" to herself. I used to the same thing. I was paranoid about someone else finding out and I would lie about "I need a kids meal for my sister"
@jessg714 He says "Hey, don't you need another spoon for your daughter?" She probably told the same lie to him that she told to the drive thru attendant, however she probably only left the convenience store with one spoon, putting a hole in her lie. I think that's also the reason when he comes out she kinda looks at him and picks up speed to get in the car quicker. Get away from him, from the lie, from the embarassment.
You have to consider that they didn't have time in one movie to put the disorder from start to end or a single entire binge, so I think they went right to the nitty gritty to get the picture across.
Sad, its seems to me that those that suffer from this do not even enjoy what they eat. Its a rushed process, only to throw it up, I don't understand I guess.
@all4amcandoltl Both are dangerous. I think bulimia can cause death faster because of electrolyte imbalances - you can have a heart attack. Or rupture your esophagus. With anorexia it takes longer to starve to death.
I'm curious -- which is worse -- bulimia or anorexia? I know that both are very severe eating disorders that wreck havoc on the body and I beiieve that it is possible to die from both
shit. i think i might not have been as recovered as i thought. i thought i was over anorexia. only, i think i might normalise too much of my behaviour. i think i might be bulimic.
@silentobservor It's more psychological...and "emotional". During this act the person could be stuffed and continues to stuff themselves even when it's to the point of physical pain.
@MuteOffMe This is so sad. My sister struggles with an eating disorder, and I noticed that when she does eat, her body takes over and she consumes the food in a ravenous manner. I with the best for all those who are suffering from this :(
I would never eat cake off the floor like that, like why is she knocking everything over. Ive had mad binges but never like that. You can eat without making a mess like that.. especially with people home.
Binges and purging are honestly the most horrible things on this planet. People think it's a choice, and maybe at first it is, but sooner or later, it becomes a habit, then an addiction. Plus, people see bulimia as "gross" but it's honestly just upsetting.
This is so sad. This disease takes over you mentally, and then gradually cycles itself into your life. I can understand...the loss of control, the lying, trying to fit into clothes... its really depressing.
I'm a recovering bulimic and I've never seen this movie before, it's creepy how real most of this movie is. Sending your man away (with a girl he wants to bone or otherwise) just to b/p. I can relate to that...
the mom bugs me...she said she doesn't want Kate to end up alone like her. So funny how it's always the single, lonely people that dish out advice about keeping a man LOL
Very realistic and a harsh reality. Like others have said, they got the idea of binging perfectly and it was incredibly horrible to watch as if they were directly re-enacting my bulimia or something ):
This is actually one of the most realistic portraits of bulimia through media i've seen.. basically ever. They did great! Thankyou SO MUCH for posting this i've wanted to see it for years! Much love :) xx
this scene makes me cry beaucause i understand it completly the lose of control when she is eating cake off the floor it like i was watching a type of myself very realistict interpertation of binging , eating disorders suck

Is this behavior becuase psychological reasons or because the body is starving? Or is it both?
silentobservor 11 months ago
@silentobservor both
danygrl08 11 months ago
@silentobservor It's more psychological...and "emotional". During this act the person could be stuffed and continues to stuff themselves even when it's to the point of physical pain.

@MuteOffMe This is so sad. My sister struggles with an eating disorder, and I noticed that when she does eat, her body takes over and she consumes the food in a ravenous manner. I with the best for all those who are suffering from this :(
silentobservor 10 months ago
@MuteOffMe Most of the time people do it actually until walking is painful. It's easier to purge then.

This movie is soooooooo how it is to be bulimic. The minute I saw it I recognized it as something so relatable!!

Eating the cake and other foods that fell on the floor...yuck!

Very realistic and a harsh reality. Like others have said, they got the idea of binging perfectly and it was incredibly horrible to watch as if they were directly re-enacting my bulimia or something ):
sfp108 1 year ago
If she's gonna binge, she doesn't have to be disgusting about it, get a fork or something. Gosh, this is so triggering
