After Cantonese, Mandarin & Min-nan is the most widely spoken Chinese language outside of mainland China & Taiwan. I m proud to have many ka-ki-lang brothers & sisters worldwide. In Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos; Teochew is d most populous Chinese emigrants. Substantial minority among Chinese emigrants live in Singapore (22%), Malaysia (15%) & Indonesia. Unfortunately Teochew's 1st language or mother-tongue speakers r dwindling in numbers in the last 30 years.

It is so difficult to find fluent Teochew speakers today under the age of 25. Many younger Teochew had "Mandarinized" or assimilated and pass of as Cantonese in China & adopt their culture as well. Hope they realize b4 2 late or EXTINCT like dinosaur or Tasmanian Tiger from this world or language without speaker like Latin. Latin language is dead when Roman Empire disintegrates.
Hi...my Teochew brothers. Teochew nang, Hokkien lang, Hailam nang or Taiwan-lang; we are all "ka-ki-lang OR ka-ki-nang"; bcos we r all under d group of Min-nan roots. There are more than 60 millions of us world-wide today, ranked 21 most populous mother-tongue in the world in Minnan diaspora (refer Wikipedia). Hope to hear more Teochew songs from Singapore or Chaozhou/Shantou in China. But Teochew singers can calculate their number with fingertips today. SO RARE!!
nang is usually Chao Chow (Teochew) but Hokkien usually say "lang".
I m Hokkien from Malaysia but living in Australia now. I speak Hokkien, Teochew, Cantonese dialects and other languages like Mandarin, Malay, English etc. Anyway glad to know Hokkien brothers from Vietnam.
I confirmed with my parents about "nang" & "lang".They said because I grew up in a small town and got influenced by TeoChew's accent. Now I know I'm Hokkien lang not nang.
HI,Hello,my dearest,my dear,my Teochew brothers(my intimated brothers),we all r KAKILANG,KAKINANG,we r from same fathers,same ancestors,same root,same tree,WE R so POPULOUS,SO SUPER,SO POWERFUL,WE ALMOST CONQUER d whole universe,we monopolise,we colonize,we swept,WE KAKILANG is HIGH-CLASS,NOBLE not like khek ppls,LOW-CLASS,POOR PEASANTS,UNEDUCATED,GUESTS without land,they sing like crows crying n like owl crying at nite,very ugly n want 2 vomit while listening 2
The original version of this song is sung by a Taiwanese Singer: Jeannie Hsieh Chin-yan (謝金燕) -- Titled - 起跳差恰恰. I think the lyrics and title remain the same, except was sung in Teochew. Althou I m not Teochew but I understand both version. Hokkien, Hainannese, Taiwanese & Teochew language are mutually intelligible.
Original version in Taiwanese sung by Jeannie Hsieh. At the recent 18th Golden Melody Awards on 16 June 2007, Jeannie Hsieh Chin-yan (謝金燕) won an award (Best Taiwanese Female Singer 最佳台語女歌手獎 ). She is a pretty singer also an actress in Yi Nan Wang, a popular Taiwanese Language Soap Opera, as "Ting Ting".... She had many other nice songs uploaded in YouTube. Just type her Chinese name on Search to check out here.
Min Nan, 闽南语; or 閩南語; Mǐnnányǔ; Bân-lâm-gú; "Southern Min") refer to a family of languages/dialects spoken in Southern Fujian and neighboring areas; by descendants of emigrants from these areas in diaspora. Commonly known as Taiwanese Language in Taiwan as well as Western Countries like USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand etc.
Min Nan actually refers to prestige Xiamen (or Amoy) speech. Is usually called Taiwanese (台灣話, 臺語, 臺灣話) by residents of Taiwan and Wastern Countries; and Hokkien by residents of Malaysia Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei; Lan-nang in The Philippines; Teochew (Chaozhou, Diojiu) in Guangzhou, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Singapore & Hong Kong and Qiongwen (Hainan, Leizhou Peninsular). Amoy is a sync of Quanzhou and Zhangzhou speech
haha,,this is interesting...wa ye si teochew nang..i'm an indonesian though...the place i live in is called batam, where most of the chinese there speaks the "traditional" teochew...although i know how to speak but my teochew mixes up with some local words as teochew ppl from my place didnt come up with new terms...now im learning new teochew terms and words from internet...anyway,traditional teochew is better .....pls upload more teochew stuff...thanks!^^
Yes it is correct. Becos they originated from the same language group i.e. Min-nan Language or Southern Min or Southern Fujian. Check in wikipedia for reference
yeah it's real teochew. well, i think this is from teochew in China so the modern teochew pronounciation is translated from mandarin chinese. where are you from?

Hi Limyangyang,
I think we say Hokien "nang" not"Lang" in Viet Nam.Because I'm Hokien from VN,how about you?
However, you have a good explanation of Min nan dialect as well as Chao Chow dialect.
