  • Okay, okay. I have to admit that I actually tried a beer in an oversized wine glass. Largely because of how much you seem to make it your religion to do so. It was Monster Ale barleywine, so at least it had the word, "wine," in it; however, I have promised myself that next time I try a Merlot it will be in a PILSENER glass!

  • In all honesty, there is no such thing as a bad beer. Some are just better than others.

  • What a lovely feast! I love asparagus, and no, it wasn't a taste I acquired. I think people who don't like it just haven't tried it properly cooked.

  • Denis, I think yo're right - there really isn't much in asapargus to be unpleasant, althgouh if undercooked, it can be a bit intense. ANd overcooked is worse. So maybe you have a point about "properly cooked".

  • That risotto looks good & Snecklifter with it will definately be one I try. Thanks!

  • Hi Meg, the risotto recipe is really nice - as long as you have some good chicken (or veg) stock, it's pretty easy really. It should be a little runnier than I made it on the video - the perils of cooking risotto and a poached egg "live"!

  • What a feast! I'm loving asparagus at the mo, I look forward to the new season all year round. I'm going ot be getting through quite a few combos in the next few weeks - I'll pick up a Snecklifter, the mix sounds like it wouldn't be brilliant so now I want to try!

  • Yes, as you can tell from my reaction in the video Mark, I was a bit taken aback by how well it worked. It was a real wrench moving on to the Duvel (and I don't say that very often)

  • Brilliant vid zak.

The other night i tried you're belgium triple and asparagus combo ( after viewing the older vid from last year again),really enjoyed the westmalle triple......but over saturated the asparagus spears in too much olive oil......they were a disaster! I'll know better next time though :)

    Cheers

    Tim

  • Thanks Tim, and pleased you liked the video from last year. Now, about your cooking skills....!

  • I agree, egg dishes work so well with German wheat beers. My favorite summer combination is deviled eggs with Weihenstephaner.

Have you tried the Grolsch Dunkel Weizen?

  • Mmm, I bet the dunkel is great. I havent seen it in the UK yet - is it easily available in the US?

  • Heppy Tahmz!

  • I WIN!

  • Good review, I can see you put a lot of work into this....good work bro

  • Thanks X - it was a bit of work, but good fun, and I ended up with a load of great food, and some nice beers to drink with it.

  • I'm going to have to come over your house for dinner sometime! Did you eat and drink all that yourself? Do you work as a chef?

I was surprised to see Blue Moon in your video. It's not bad for an American macro wannabe niche style. Most restaurants here serve it with a wedge of orange.

Asparagus must be a really acquired taste, because I dont know anyone that likes it. But that quiche looked good!

Great review, now if Only we could get rid of that white noise!

  • Chad, you're welcome to come to dinner - perhaps you can bring me a new video camera!

Actually, I did work as a chef for a few years, but that was a while ago now. I just really love good fod, and I think that learning how to cook it is all part of that. I need to apply that philosophy to beer and brew something at home.

Blue Moon is easily available here in the UK. I'm not crazy about it, but it seems to be getting popular, and who can argue with the masses?!

  • Flying all the way across the Atlantic for a free meal seems to be taking the path of most resistance. LOL

If I'm ever in England I'll look you up. Do you ever come to the USA?

Still waiting for your review of Bud Light (or any beer with the word "lite" in it for that matter)

  • Happily, I'm not sure that we've let Bud Light invade our shores. I think that Micelob Ultra is about as bad as it gets.

  • Love the mash up of food and beer. I would suggest Bells Oberon if you had to pick an American wheat ale.

  • Thanks epdb. I've never tried a wheat ale, although here in the UK, I hear that Lovibonds do produce one. I'll have to seek it out.
