  • how did u get 2 power supplies in there

  • do the xbox 360 fans have a mulex connector or not

  • is the emachines in the background a w3502?

  • @davidcrowder1234 no idea, most of the stuff in the video is gone by this point, i don't have that case or anything anymore.

  • i have dell optiplex gx280 (the biggest tower) with EGVA 9500 GT 1GB pci express 2.0 with a 650w power supply. also has a 160GB HDD. I can play Crysis/ Far Cry 2/ Left 4 Dead/ Minecraft/ WoW/ LoL/ PWIE/ and Combat Arms.

  • @xezer9 also running at a 1280x1024 res, 2GB RAM, 3.2Ghz CPU, complete with a 5.1speaker system.

--Question: do you guys think it would be possible to upgrade this setup with a EGVA 450 Fermi?

  • will the standard motherboard of this computer support a decent graphics card for gaming?

  • @wetoreitup Mine did without problems for the year I had it, gave it to my sister for another 2, no problems yet.

  • how do you think this will run with a evga 9500gt? for gaming. atleast to run call of duty 4.

  • @skylinebackfire I think it will briskly jog this game rather well.

  • man if you sleeved all your cables, this computer would look beast

  • @ToonFreak559 I ran the nvidia geforce 9800 gt and got great resualts

  • dude you need more fan's

  • i got a desktop gx280( the one that sits under the monitor. it has 512mb ram, P4 HT and an hdd i had to get out from my pc. (i had 2 HDDs)

  • i just took my green fan cover out ..saved alot of room to run 2 fans ..alittle bit of cutting you could run triple fans 1 for the every bottom as a exit heat air fan

  • Dude, I got some LED'S laying around, and how do I put them in my PC? Its a Dell Optiplex GX280 SFF.

  • @bg048 there is a video tutorial in my videos just browse through and you should find it.

  • Im getting one soon.... so... it any good for gaming?

  • With a decent graphics card it will hold its own for gaming yes.

  • Where can I add another fan at? LOL.

  • I shot a video on the inside of my old GX-280 there is alot of detailed information on the video of all the fan locations and some tips all together. If you want I can post that video up on youtube and it might be easier to just see what i have done instead of a text explanation.

  • That would be nice.

  • It's up and will be set as a video response

  • THANKS, for the upload.

  • Mines running Windows 7 with 4 gigs of DDR2 ram. Fucking amazing!

  • heyy,

i have the exact same pc and it creates a lot of heat and i also put a fan there and it improved it a hell of a lot and i also have a little swith runnin out by where the front usb port is, and that speeds up the fan, did u cut the blue wire and connect it to the switch?

  • nope their is a second fan in there all together, if you want I can do a small video on it, I still have the machine, it's just not in use.

  • the overclocking switch? iheard nothing bout it

  • it's not for anything but graphics card overclocking and airflow. all it does is turns on a second power unit for a little power boost and fan flow. as far as the CPU and ram on the motherboard there to my knowledge is not an overclock setting at all.

  • Noob Much?

  • Ass much? j00 n00b

  • Lol, your not really a noob I guess you seem to know what your doing but making that second power supply was a waste of time and it really dangerous.

  • Yes, it is pretty dangerous. I disagree with the waste of time though. I did it more to just see if it could be done. I don't liek things the way they are I have to change them it's just part of who I am, I like making things do things that they shouldn't. My current computer does not have dual PSU not point for it really but hey this was fun for me.

  • is the gx280 a good cp

  • If your an average user/ non heavy gamer the dell optiplex gx-280 is amazing

  • why are their so many for sale on ebay?

  • because this system was built for mass production, mostly for work machines for large companies, when a company upgrades they usually sell of old machines to cover costs. However with a few tweaks they make beautiful machines still. My Dell GX-280 is currently down because i got my SLI gaming server up but it will be put to use again when I get another screen, Don't count out old machines... they still have alot of promise sometimes .

  • I have a Dell Optiplex GX280 can I have IDE hard drive and dvd drive with no sata running.

  • i have a problem i come to a screen that says pci accelerated svga bios and it is stuck on that loop i need help one day i shut it off because fallout 3 crashed when i rebooted my computer it came to that screen and wont get pasted that

  • here is the full screen if it helps

    Intel(r)915g/915gv/910gl PCI Accelerated SVGA BIOS

    Build Number: 1235 PC 14.4 07/18/2005 09:55:21

    DECOMPILATION OR DISASSEMBLY PROHIBITED

Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Intel corp. All rights reserved my computer is stuck in a loop and i dont know how to get out of it

  • I have no idea, I think you have a bios problem, you might want to go into your bios and check security settings, you might need to reset your computer after having the case switch armed. try to disable that notification thought the security settings in your bios

  • the problem is i cant get to bios when i turn on my computer that is the screen i see first.. so i cant get into bios.

  • outch, hmm try resetting the bios, unplug your computer, remove the batter form the mother board " CR 2032 " and then hit the power button, this will drain all the power form the PSU, disconnect the PUS connector form the mother board and hold the power button for 30 seconds to a minute, reconnect the PSU to the mother board and reseat the battery on the mother board. then try to power it up after pluging it back in.

  • Wait i am running an hd graphics card with the stock psu Could this be a case of psu failure???

  • my computer wont post it turns on but i dont see the dell post screen

  • I am running an nVidia geforce 9800 GT on a 250 watt PSU... I doubt you have a PSU issue.

Needless to say i can't wait to finish off my gaming/server hybrid machine " yay SLI !!!"

  • SLI is going to be awsome lol that shit looks so pretty lol

  • i finally fixed the problem the stick of ddr2 512mb ram freaking went to Antarctica i am pissed i would rather have a dead computer then one with a hd graphics card and 256mb of ram >:(

  • I just dismantled my dell, I took out the graphics card and the 1 TB hard drive for my new core i7 machine. in the next 2 weeks when i get the second card for SLI i will post a video. if you need any assistance let me know.

  • hey did you have a dual psu connector? or which cables did you use? could you run one into the motherboard and 2 graphics cards and they other into the other 2 and all the satas?

  • I made one PSU basically from scratch, I took off the ATX plug in and made it manual, I can probably make a video on that if you want to, I tried once but the videos where not the best quality. Also yes, you can run one power supply to hard drives and optical drives separate from the PSU connected to the mother board, however you will need to have the drive PSU start up before the motherboard PSU in order to function.

  • NICE JOB MAN! LIKE IT :)

  • what is the point of two psu's

  • I need a new psu (at least 500) to run a apg graphics card I got, I have the the same gx270 tower. I know nothing about nothing lol so what psu will you recommend?

  • i have dell 3.4 optiplex gx280

    ram 1 gb

  • Oh sorry, forgot mine is a GX270 my bad, but they're close. It has a Pentium 4 2.8Ghz with HT 1.5GB ram 80GB HD and an Nvidia fx 5200 *sux*

  • Nice setup. I have the same computer but in the small form factor, No PCI Express :(

  • I have seen pictured fo rsmall form factor GX-280s, they do have PCI express from the pictures i have seen

  • i have ur pc but in stock right now and i wana uprade plz help my specs are- single core processer type

    intel pentium 4 HT

    1GB ram

    250GB hard drive

now im looking to spend well over 100 for the upgrade what can i get, and im talking about what can i get on ebay, (for gaming)

  • I will write you a message expect it.

  • sweet

  • Which one would you recommend because ive heard from a couple people that i should get an nVidia. also i have an integrated graphics card, does that matter?

  • nVidia is what I use ^_^ it makes me happy, Having an intergrated chip won't hurt, it will double as a northgate/PCIe bus to the graphics card of your choice I thinks, as long as you can get a low progile graphics card that is PCI express you should be excellent to go.

  • For any low profile video card that DO fit the SFF, just unscrew the nuts holding it in place, they're easy to just take off. I plug the card in and gently attach the VGA as is

  • I took one apart and can't seem to stop, I can't make much money selling them, though I wish I could. I have stacks and stacks of PCs I saved from the outside trash, including a Toshiba A25 someone tossed out! I revived that too!

  • Yea, people throw out many good things, The average user just looks up stuff on the internet, I know a 16 year old girl who has an nvidia 8800 card and dual core machine and just uses it for myspace " really sad " Also these huge hard drive, how many average users use more then 40 GB anyway? keep up the work with machines it's a fun hobby to have.

  • Hard, VERY hard to sell them, but just for the uses you mention, simple captures and photo editing, printing, surfing, Networking, can all be done on a 233 Pentium. I got these Dells to use for some more gaming then I ever was able to before, despite their age, with a good card, they can still handle the work

  • Dell Optiplex GX240, with a low profile Nvidia Geforce 6200 overclocked, It works great, and can handle most games quite well. Older computers are build way more reliable then new ones. one use i can recommend for older machines, Put large drives in there like IDE " 500 - 1000 GB " drives X3 with a simple DVD rom and sell them on ebay for a cheep in home network drive/server you could make some money most likely.

  • I got two desktop GX280s that I tested with the same CPU and RAM, they were $5 each at the local BoxShop store, then I went back and wound up with a SFF GX270, that allows regular pinned PGA P4 chips and still use GB Ram (not DDR2 obviously, in this case. Also does away with PCI Express in favor of AGP. I found a TNT2 Pro low profile and removed the metal mount bracket, it now fits!!

  • Awesome, If your running some of the Dells I can email you some of the high definition pictures I took of the custom work on mine, Same thing, I bent the bracket on the video card but I also had to hollow out the grat in one area for the VGA cabled port, it works amazingly well. Also, If you haven't I recommend subscribing, I will be posting up many more tech and howto videos on this channel in the weeks/months to come.

  • I mod them to suit me, so I don't have that need at present, the PSU needs to fit the case and I lack the right one, what aftermarket units have the right power at low cost? I plan on a nVidia card at $200 range, max. Some day!

  • cool man! I like learning about computers. Can you tell what graphic cards I can install in a 3ghz dell optiplex gx280?

  • 1.0a spec PCI Express x16 is what the spec on Dell's site says. Their built in video is Intel Extreme, which is pretty damn lame actually!

  • MetalicBill thanks for the comments, Good advice, I tried to respond and give a link to newegg but it did nto post, youtube is really picky. Any way the Dell Optiplex GX280 does come with an intel express chipset with 128MB shared memory, It has a good acceleration factor but non of the fancy pixel shaders mipmaping support water/reflection effects that most games utilize now. Though there is a toss up between ATI and nVidia i strongly recommend nVidia and SLI support. Google newegg for more!

  • i have the small version of this computer, i was planning on getting a nvidia graphics card at half size. is there anything else i would need to run games on this computer. ( i also have 2gb of ram and 2.8 ghz processor)

  • you should be good to go, is it going to be an online of offline gaming machine?

  • just Counter Strike Source Online. I still have the Intel Chipset Family so playing games is out of the question. I tried to run CSS today and i could only get it to play at 10 frames per second

  • did you already update your graphics card? in gaming the GPU is way more important then the CPU your CPU has a 800 mhz front end bus at worst, a good graphics cares is about 750 mhz, your fine with a 2,8 core

  • I have never upgraded my graphics card. Would I be able to upgrade mine?

  • Oh yea, I have done many upgrades, I have a dell optiplex gx-240 that can piss circles around some modern machines. You will need to identify your form factor " case size " and your graphics adapter " AGP or PCI " and then you can look for a good card. If you want to I can tell you everything you need to know email me a picture Jaws8472@aolDOTcom

  • also if you send me a picture make sure its with the case opened, I can identify your GFX adapter that way.

  • would it be alright if i send a picture tomorrow cuz i have tests tomorrow, also thanx for being so responsive.

  • no problem, I also just shot a little video between low and full profile cases in the dell optiplex series, look for that shortly, Also, please subscribe if you liek the information you found here, there will be much more to help out in the future.

  • k ill be waiting for it, i subbed

  • thanks much, I am transcoding right now and it will be up in about 20-30 mins. I did load up a few fun videos though, the best one right now, I blew up a laptop battery the video is up now, it's awesome scary lol

  • sorry it took longer then expect tot transcode, the video just finished loading and youtube will be done processing it shortly, I will link it with this video when it's done!

  • I emailed you the pictures of the computer open case. I just wanted to make sure you got them

  • Hey, I got them, I reviewed them over, you will need a 16X PCI express graphics card with a low profile form factor for your machine.
