Ya'll do know that our present understanding of physics has as one of it's chief tenants that faster than light travel is an impossibility? it's like matter not being created or destroyed, or there being no such ting as leprechauns.

They do this so their maths will work and in any case the extra dimensions are folded up smaller than the smallest quark. Ya'll do know that our present understanding of physics has as one of it's chief tenants that faster than light travel is an impossibility? it's like matter not being created or destroyed, or there being no such ting as leprechauns.
That makes interstellar travel immensely difficult.
Given the size of the universe, I reckon there must be other life out there, but it would be isolated as we are, at least until we/them can extend our lifespans and adapt our bodies for space travel.

@loofoowho Don't worry, I'm not touchy. You are right, the standard model works I think on 8 dimensions, string theory on 10. They do this so their maths will work and in any case the extra dimensions are folded up smaller than the smallest quark. Black holes, or more to the point the singularities within black holes would squeeze anything going into it into an infinitely long and thin spaghetti due to speed differences at either end. Perhaps the universe is designed to prevent contact.

There is most likely life on other planets, given the fact that the universe is so tremendously large. My guess is that if there is, they are looking at us and thinking about us like we look and think about a mouse in a maze. We are looking in at the mouse thinking "damn what a moron, they have no idea im watching them, and that maze is easy to beat!". The mouse is not intelligent enough to know that, we are though, so think of an evolved type of human, say 5,000 years ahead of us.
