  • Street Magic?

  • I had exactly this problem, I find out i had this problem with my Galaxy S T959 from T-Mobile. That is why I Google to see if any one have this issue, not to see this video first to test on the phone. So now it seems not affecting all Galaxy S owners, but to those who had signal loss when holding it in the bottom of the phone ( this is the natural way to hold cell phone, who is going to hold it on the top few inches ? ), it is very hard to hold the phone on the top without touching the power..,

  • so for those had this problem....how to fix it? Will Samsung replace its defective phone? it is under warranty? And how? Call T-Mobile ?

  • I own one and Im on uscellular I have tested it a week and it never has 3g reception or wifi something is wrong.

  • samsung Galaxy S: antennagate, design flaw, shitty phone, iphone 4: all 3 mentioned + Way too overpriced

  • I have a Galaxy S and the reception often shows as 2 or 3 bars, hardly ever 4 bars (I'm on Tesco network)!

  • maybe it's because you're livin in america but here on holland there's no problem with the signal bar and just like the iphone you guys squeeze it to death(grip)

  • I don't seems to care... if both IPhone 4 and Galaxy S got the same problem... I think Samsung still the best since it has many feature that IPhone lack of. I know the Galaxy S don't have any flash and cool feature like the IPhone but samsung put a very reasonable price on it.... while the IPhone 4 was a bit expensive but lack in several area...

  • holy shit

  • never have tis problem

  • I doubt there is a problem with all Samsung Galaxy S's. I'm willing to bet it's only a fraction of the people that own them, including myself, that have problems with it.

I have yet to experience this "death grip" so I doubt it's that big of an issue. Probably just some scam set up so that people get free cases etc.

  • mine works perfectly... what's your live wallpaper btw?

  • Right, so i have a Samsung galaxy S atm, but I am struggling to replicate this problem! I'm on Tesco Mobile, in the UK if that help? I'm doing the exact finger placements as you and I am unable to replicate this.

  • Guys this video is not fake... I found it after searching google for galaxy s signal strength problems. My Galaxy S in Australia in a very good coverage area also does the same thing... exactly like in the video and WITH a silicon cover on it.

    Very bad gotta say!

  • hahaha. nice try from a bitter apple-fan-boy! I have yet to see credible information on this issue. and can not replicate it even if i try my very best.

BS. but you get points for trying.

  • i have the iphone 4 and it suckss badyyyyyy waiting for my samung galaxy s I9000 in 2 dayss!! :))))

  • @r0cker6 i don't think you have an iphone4,,you are just a dude who can not afford an iphone ,,you know why ? because besides the fact signal issue ,,iphone4 is great phone,,so shut the fuck up with your lies !!!

  • @papcyrill sold it yesterday!! its easy to buy iphone4 in Canada coz with contract for 3 years with any line company u get the phone at 150$!! seriously man it sucks, u cant do nothing in it just downloading apps it's really boring, but shame on apple i bought it twice the price of S and the screen is nothing comparing to S G wanna know the difference between these phones? take the S and the iphone 4 and compare and u tell me!! rly dont regret selling it I sold it 2 times the price i bought it

  • Wow, 2 bad for you. I don't have those problems with my Galaxy S at all!

  • You are grabbing it basicale by the bottom!! not the side.... It has nothing to do with left or right hand. The antenna in the Samsing Galaxy is in the bottom (reason why the mini usb connector is in the top. I'm a lefty and grabbing the phone like that it would be very uncomfortable. Also grabbing it that way with either hand would hace the same effect

  • Mine does this, too. The signal strength indicator is not stable. Also, today I experienced around 8 dropped calls in different areas where my nokia e75 (with the same SIM card) would have only an inferior signal. Even the wifi signal strength of my unit is problematic. I like the SGS a lot but these signal strength issues really bother me. I hope an upcoming OS update would solve it.

  • I love how Steve Jobs tells the truth of "phones aren't perfect"I salute you Jobs.,I do.

  • This only happens in areas where the reception is already bad. I could replicate this issue when on my old provider "NetCom", but when attempting to replicate the issue using my new provider "Telenor", I get no negative results. And the fact is that Telenor has a lot better reception where I live, than what NetCom has.

  • TAKE THAT, IpHONE TROLLERS!!!!

  • It's completely true... mine does it.

  • This is true. I have SGS and it really doing that. But no mather that i have the best signal every where i go compare to others phones!

  • Unless you hold the phone by the bottom (like in the video) you will not have this problem.

He is just deliberately covering up the antennas that are at the bottom of the phone.

The antennas were put right at the bottom to give the user the maximum area to grip the phone without affecting reception (also to keep the radiating antennas as far from the head as possible during phone calls).

Just don't hold it that way and you won't have problems ;-)

  • @P0z1tr0n It's funny you say that, because that is EXACTLY how I hold my phone when I am using it. it's not deliberate per say, it's the default way to it. I guess I'll have to train myself to not hold the phone the way that feels natural.

  • That's one hell of a grip. Your hands were trembling!

  • "the bars never drop that fast! " i think too, use gsm signal blocker ??

  • Comment removed

  • @fredphoesh hmm

perhaps this really is an apple conspiracy, why would this youtube user remove my comment?

  • nice try steve jobs!

  • @luinHD no offense. but i tried exactly what u did in the vid and i dont have that kind of signal loss.. I lose 1 bar tops! but back up right away.. so all i can think of is that u either live in a place with bad reception or your provider sucks.. or could be that u simply have a galaxy s thats has a flaw.. that's possible.. all i can tell u is that mine works without problems.. no matter in what crazy way i hold it or how tight. not that im saying its a perfect device.. it's still man made;)

  • I took my phone back to the shop complaining of a bad service and little or no coverage on vodafone but after searching on google and watching these videos it looks like they all are prone to signal loss.

For those who say they don't lose any signal they must be really close to a transmitter.

  • @bobjoegem

I can promise you I am living in a small town where the reception is not great, and my signal strength does not move AT ALL, not one bit, when I hold the phone, cupping it in my left hand... so I think this video is set up, its impossible it goes down so fast. I wonder if these are part of the apple attempt to justify not recalling the iPhone

  • @fredphoesh But are You speaking about 3G? There is no problem in 2G (EDGE) networks.

  • @luinHD I am talking about the Signal strength, the dBm and asu figures displayed in the settings menu.

  • @fredphoesh The problem can be observed only after you log in to 3G networks. Conspiracy theories about this movie make me laugh. I described the problem in two articles on TELEPOLIS.PL and even met with someone from Samsung Product Developer (he brought additional four Samsungs Galaxy S). If your Galaxy S works well, good 4 you. I tested the phones only in Poland, and I'm not saying that the problem exists throughout the world. But I have seen similar films from Korea. Regards.

  • @luinHD I just returned 2 Vibrants myself. I got tiered of the phone switching to 2g just because of putting my hand close to the bottom side of the phone. 2G (edge) is fine. 3G is where it's sensitive.

  • @fredphoesh Well video is not set up myte. I have the same problem in my Galaxy s. The antenna reception dies completely especially if your gsm or wcdma is turned on and if you catch with left hand and cover the bottom(below back home more botton) with right hand. But when catching thhe phone with just left hand and turning your gsm data off it works fine.

  • rly? then why is my phone fine when I grab it like that

  • Almost every phone in -80dBm and -90dBm lose signal just holding it.... this happen to iPhone 4.. iPhone 3GS... Samsung.... Blackberry... etc...

Thanks for sharing the reception information... its more important than just "bars".

  • samsung smart phones? just a trash.

  • Comment removed

  • Fake. Sorry but your 'bare' hand cannot drop 'Moc' value by 50 unless your left hand has something behind it.

  • Where is my free case Samsung?? :-(

  • @yasir25119918

You can solve the issue upgreading the phone with froyo or only the modem part with one of the last releases .

And for the IPhone... it's an hardware problem.

  • yah im looking all over youtube and finding videos of so many other smartphones losing signal and people were trying to get all crazy about the iphone 4 atleast steve jobs gave everyone a free case and is working on something else all these other companys arent trying to do shit.

  • OMG Jobs was right!

  • I've seen so many brands apple pulled down together with them with the antena problems but they've yet to do so to a nokia phone...

  • @Nanozander I have a nokia 6120 that does it. Also, the Nokia E72 does it

  • So, does Galaxy's same problem cancel the iPhone signal issue? No, it doesn't! It only proves that other phones may have the same issue and you should not buy such phones.

  • what song is this?

  • Where is my free case?

  • Like Iphone.

  • I have a Galaxy S from Singtel and I can't replicate that issue... It's probably your carrier's signal!

  • @darkmyk

Yeah same here..I even tried in on MRT..covering in anyway with my hand yet full bar..Maybe its one of those faulty batches...

  • @luinHD say, what was the result of your meeting? I kinda have the same issues.

  • I tried to hold my Galaxy exactly as you do in this video and even covered it with both hands, the signal never changed. Your phone is defective end story.

  • @MaxinuxTube

Apple said every places has different situation, and that is the truth.

In HongKong, the signal always beyond 3 bars no matter how people hold their iPhone 4.

But I believe you don't care. Because defaming people has more fun than anything els.

  • @HuabinZ so true, i can kill my HTC Touch Diamond 2s reception in exactly the same way when at home, I only have 3-4 bars here so if i had 5 i might not be able to do but in a weaker area i can easily kill the reception

  • @MaxinuxTube i agree with u. got no prob with mine. its d best fone. nd im an apple lover until i found SGS luv it.

  • @garukun do you have actualky have the iphone?

  • wow how can you text or make a call if you hold ur phone like that

  • iphone's cousin

  • Must be AT&T

  • It must also depend on how far you are away from the tower. If you are quite close a tight grip may not matter on any phone.

  • @nosliwsirhc Or his hand is covering the antenna.

  • The good thing is - this is not the only Android phone on the planet. :)

  • Like the way you shot the video. Cool gives it a special neon effect.

  • Like the way you shot the video. Nice, looks like special effects, neon.

  • which song is that?

  • @Jorlin1

    Mike Oldfield - Harbinger Reprise

  • bravo! thanks for posting this

  • I have the Samsung Vibrant (Galaxy S) for T-Mobile USA. If I hold the phone tighter than usual with the left hand the bars will sometimes drop to zero. However, I can still make phone calls - unlike the iPhone 4.

  • @garukun I have the Apple iPhone 4 for AT&T USA. If I cup the phone and hold it tighter than usual, the bars will sometimes drop to one. However, I can still make phone calls - unlike this mythical *iPhone 4* you speak of.

  • not so sure about the issue... I don't see it at all, and it would make no sense that it would happen since the phone has an internal antenna... The song is awesome though!! What is that song called?

  • I have a Samsung Omnia (SGH-i900) and it seems it have the very same issue. When a I hold it with the left hand the signal drops to almost zero. I think it is a Samsung issue, not just in the Galaxy S

  • My Galaxy S has no problem from holding at bottom at all. Your SSGS may be a defect.

  • Hiya

Could you try the same method i'm using? Because the antenna, obviously, points away from your head, the place where you will place your hand. What I came up was that I applied a sheet of standard kitchen aluminium foil to the back of the antenna(just put it between the backcover and phone), so that it direct's the signals through the buttons. The problem still exists, but in my opinion there's about a 80% increase in signal strength when holding the phone at the back near the antenna.

  • ss특공대들 곧 삭제 할 동영상이네요 빨리 보셔야 할거 같습니다

  • what is the better smartphone? Iphone 4 or galaxy s?

    difficult problem...

  • I have to say that the iPhone 3Gs has the same problem, when I hold the phone exactly as you on the Video, it loses 3G signal and goes to EDGE almost instantly, I don't know the exact signal in dB but all phones that have the GSM antenna on the bottom part of the phone have this issue and it's no big fuss really

  • I can easily reproduce the problem on Vodafone. I also tested the transfer speeds:

i9000 on desk: 2.4 mbps (average of 3 tries)

i9000 in hand: 250 kbps (average of 3 tries)

The ping went also from 65 ms to 230 ms.

  • I'm not so sure that phone in the video is defective. *All* phones suffer some signal loss due to being held. How much and how easily depends on the design and location of the antenna and how you hold it. But a 30 dB loss? That's worse than the iPhone 4's death grip (something like a 24 dB loss?).

  • That doesn't happen to mine either

  • @luinHD I think there is a defect with your particular handset. My friend bought one of these from UK and it seems to work without any problems.

  • Yeah, my galaxy s handset has similar problem.... still happening even after i put a silicone case on it.....

hope they come out with firware fix soon.... one that will fix the GSM and the GPS signal too.....

By the way,. i got my unit from Singapore

  • I tried this on mine in Australia an have no such problem.

  • Apple activist at work...AT&T say no more...

  • Death grip like the iPhone 4.

  • I just have same problem when I carry by left hand side.

  • I am having the same problem. I also have very weak wi-fi reception. Noticed this in my first hour of usage. Hope its only a software bug.

  • uh oh, now im having second thoughts on purchasing this phone.

  • this is such a weird problem

  • good hoax.

  • Oh shit, it loose the signal like iPhone4??

Honestly it is THE ONLY video showing this on Galaxy s, i think is a fake or a personal problem.

  • lol nice they made an app to imitate the iphone 4 bad signal, where do i download it?

  • Sorry man, but my Galaxy S is okay at all. I guess it's only your phone's glitch. Use your warranty ;)

  • @romanii87 So you think this is fake? Just wondering cos im interested in this phone.

  • @thecousin Not fake, but it's just a reception problem of author's phone. I've tried so many things to disturb reception or something, and nothing worked :) I've got everything in perfect condition - also software is numero uno without stuttering. That's it. Superb phone I can tell ;)

  • @romanii87 Cool, thanks for replying. Did u check the db or just the bar? Im wondering whether to get this or wait for a gsm one with a physical keyboard.

  • Motorola Milestone never lost signal...

a pinch of coon shit like iPhone 4G
