If you want a professional flat iron and you are ok with spending around $140 I would highly recommend the Karmin G3 Salon Pro, it heats up to 450f with temperature control, dual voltage, tourmaline ceramic plates with rounded edges which makes it great for also curling your hair. Also has a 3 year warranty. If you do look at other irons make sure to stay away from irons with painted plates (colored plates) these can damage your hair.
You should have got the Salon Styler, the plates are bigger and straighten your hair better if you have thick or curly hair. It doesn't have a heat setting because it adapts to your hair type.
The heat should adjust to my finger too huh? Yeah like I am supposed to believe that. And people just because Sarah gives a negative review based on HER EXPERIENCE with the product DOESN"T MEAN THAT SHE HAS A FAKE! Everybody's hair texture is different. And yes it would be best to be in charge of heat settings if all possible. Preach Sarah!
I agree with you Sarah, I had the hair stylist try the ghd on me because I was hearing soo much about this too. Blah blah blah, she tried it and it was just like any other hair straightener. I tried CHI and I also didn't like it. I ended up buying the Bio Ionic One Pass and it was the best FOR MY HAIR. The girl that tested my hair also brought up the idea that the plates on the ghd miraculously adjust thte heat to your hair. Yeah right. In that case let me put my finger between plates.
I have the T3 tourmaline medium duality straghtener (the old grey version) I bought it three years ago, and have used it for the majority of that time. Having tried the CHI myself, I went straight back to the T3, it locks in lots of moisture, and the hair is much "heavier" than with the chi - maybe it was the shampoo the hairstylist used, maybe not.
Your GHD is a fake! i have super curly hair and the GHD straightens my hair in only 1 stroke, and adds a lot of shine and softness, try a real one and you'll be real impressed.
did u get a fake? try to register it and see if it has like a # on the straightener AND the tag on the cord... if it has two numbers it's fake it should only have one number and that should be on the straightener itself. also if you didn't buy it at sephora or the official ghd site it's most likely fake
the heat only goes to a max. 370, perfect for people with thick hair. good thing about these is that they work for all hair types at a fixed and LOW temps like chi which adj ones can NOT but the thing is i have fine hair and need 365 on my fhi, so i am sure you would go higher than ghd temp on a adj, heat iron
I've tried the ghd & didn't like it at all. I basically use a flat iron to curl my hair not straighten it as I already have straight hair. The GHD DIDN'T hold the curl at all. So for me I wasn't impressed. I like the Enzo MIlano Flat iron(overall great iron), Solia Limited edition(love the moveable plates it connects to the hair perfectly and gets HOT) and the Supersolano flat iron(glides so smooth ). All these I mentioned are SO much better but then again everyone's hair is different!!!!!!!!!!
I recently bought a GHD because of the reputation. I don't like it at all. My hair doesn't hold the style, no matter if I curl or straighten it with it. I am so annoyed with it. I am going to go back to Remington. I had the 3 in 1 for 6 years before it broke. I am going to buy it again. I am very disappointed with the GHD.
This video is completely wrong! I have her type of hair and I just got a brand new GHD flat iron because my CHI recently broke. The GHD works great! You can't compare the CHI to the GHD. The GHD works that much better! Trust me! It is a great investment. I know it's a little pricey, but it's definitely worth every single penny that you pay for it!
My hair is very hard to get straight and I had been contemplating getting a chi...however in the meantime I had to get another straightener...decided to get a Vidal Answers flat iron to tide me over...I got the one for coarse hair that I assume just means that it gets hotter and I was blown away with it...it heats up quickly, doesn't lose heat and when I flat iron my hair I can get a second day out of it which I have never been able to do before...it cost about $35 canadian..forget the chi
Hi the GHD comes in different sizes. The one you reviewed was not the salon styler and is better for thinner hair. Try the thicker salon styler version and I'm sure you'll change your mind.
I so appreciate this review because you're so honest and real. I have wavy hair (kinda straight... kinda like your hair. curls and straightens really easily) and I bought a solia (one of the best people said) and when I used it, i was NOT impressed AT ALL... I could've stuck with my $30 straighter. Then I realized, I have hair that easily straightens so it didn't matter what brand I used. the reviews I read about the Solia and GHD were for SUUUUUUPER curly and textured hair. thx 4 ur honesty. :)
sorry but i can't agree with u .... first of all the reason y the ghd doesn't have a heat setting is because the ghd has a sensor inside the plates which senses how much heat ur hair needs and it will apply.... and second of alll maybe the reason y ur not in love with it is because u used a 1inch instead 2inch which could've of worked way better since ur hair is long and big
i have the helen of troy flat iron. it heats up fast but full heat takes a few minutes. i love it and it gets my mixed (black, white, idian) hair straight. but the only thing i dont like is the plates. they move. idk if that a good thing, but maybe its just me. thanks for the review and being completely honest and not just saying you like it just because.
I love the ghd i hear americans etc always complaining about it but here in ireland and the uk the ghd is literally the only ghd people buy there are others but their notting compared to the ghd, the ghd can do so many differnt hairstyles i think its the best seriously notting beats it!
Thanks for your opinion! I bought a Chi and then heard about the GHD a couple weeks later and was a little bummed wishing I had bought the GHD. After hearing your review I am happy with my choice.
Thank you for the review. I love your necklace! I am trying to decide which Tiffany key to buy. Is yours from Tiffany? If not would you tell me/us where its from because it is absolutely beautiful.
I agree with bkalay, definitely try the Sedu, it's awesome. I bought the 1 1/2" and have had it for 3 years, dropped it a zillion times and it still works perfectly. My hair is wavy, wild, long and this turns it into silk smooth shiny beautiful hair.
I almost bought one about a month ago. I'm happy to know I made a good decision to not buy it after seeing this. Thanks!! I hate Chi! I loved my Hair Art, but I dropped it. I wanted to try a Paul Mitchell though. I have a Paul Mitchell now and still adjusting to it. I do like it though.
I use to straighten my hair every day until I got the Japanese hair straightening. I used the Sedu straightener and I love it. Maybe try that one next :)
I LOVE my GHD. But, with that said, it is not the flat iron i use daily. I use my wide T-3 to get my hair "straight enough." When I want stick straight hair and I have the time to go over small sections, slowly... nothing beats the GHD, IMO. :)
Sarah you are a beauty! Thanks for the review, I have the chi and I think I'm going to just stick with it. I have also used less expensive flat irons that I thought worked great. I say if it works just fine, why spend more you know? Anyway, thanks again and have a good day!
From a pro hairstylist The Chi is the best is made of ceramic which wont burn the hair also the heat settings are for non pros and they can over heat and burn the hair! There certain ways of using the iron. Watch out for fake ceramics iron that say ceramic coated. =D Youtube/finnezze
I think that women like us who have thinner european hair that is not super curly or thick/coarse , the cheaper straighteners are just fine. However for people who have afro like hair, coarser, really really curly, they might wanna buy the expensive straighteners...probably that's what u were trying to say.
i really need to get myself a straightener but if i'm going to buy one i want to buy a good one, but i can never convince myself to splurge on an expensive one. your video came as a relief to me because now i know i can get a good quality straightener for really cheap. Thank you so much
i got my cortex 2 weeks ago.. i was just a 2 diff tj Max's and they both had about 20 or so.. i really dont think to many people know about them.. if i wave mine over my curly over processed hair it goes "bong straight lol" seriously the best ever! there cant be any regrets. mine is zebra.. it is solid ceramic.
Thanks for giving details on why it didn't work for you. I have similar hair as you and I never straighten because I feel like the ones I used, I was going over and over one area of hair and its just too damaging. May look into the Sallys one!
Holy moly you look amazing ! Im stealing your skin care routine lol !!! great review...i owned a ghd myself thought it was ok but their are definatley better ones out...and as always thanks for speaking the truth !!
Ive heard good things about the Corioliss hair straighteners. A sales person allowed me to try it out on my own hair and it one swipe my hair went from wavy to incredibly straight and shiny!
I have a $50 hair iron from Belson Pro, and it works. I look like I was in a salon every time I use it. So many stylists have told me Chi's snag the hair, and I have to agree after feeling the difference.
here in the u.k ghd's r the holy grail of hair gadgets u seem to have a rather old looking pair the newer ones r thinner less clumpy and really hot u do get ppl making cheap copies....ive never tried chi basically because its not a well known brand here..the GHD'd r £150 &they last forever xxxx
I think people exaggerate brands too much, I tried CHI n it was nothing great either, They dont even av temperature adjustment, I wonder wht these people wonder while designing it. On top of that its so expensive too. Thanks for a honest review.
You look so gorgeous! But you always do :) I love your hair naturally, it's so beautiful! I have the GHD too and I thought it was way too expensive...it's a straightener, it should cost the same as a regular hair-dryer IMHO! xoxo Anna
Is this the ghd bought off ebay for 80$? It looks a bit thick to me, in size. Do you have a circuit breaker plug with it? And a serial number under the hologram on the flat iron? Have you tried registering your iron on the ghd site? I can't see any writing on the top of it and the circle part that holds the iron together should say ghd on it..it should straighten better in one go. Not picking on you, but the results should be better than you are having. The fakes are very realistic.
I have a 2" CHI and my Helen of Troy/Hot Tools one straightens my hair equally well and fast! I've never tried a ghd, but I am in the market for a 1" straightener now. Thanks for the review!
Thanks for the review. I was wondering if you have tried the Physician's Formula Plump Potion mascara. I just bought it the other day and love it. Was wondering if you have tried it and what your thoughts are on it.
thanks for th review. actually even i had that iron and ended up returning it despite others giving positive reviews. so i ws kinda confused if i was the only one not liking it-but now i knw i nt the only one! btw ur lip color is awesome-pls what is it?
this looks exactly like my cortex.. cortex does have heat settings..from low,,450... on and off,, red light turns green in seconds when its hot. is unreal!! i got mine at tj max for 29.99.. I really need one for travel,, cortex says it is dual voltage but i dont see a button to switch it .maybe it just adjust the voltage in other countries. i hope i dont want to blow fuses!!.. Xshelly
How long ago did you buy the cortex at TJ Max? Ive heard this from someone else that they got a set there of a large and more of a travel size one together for 40 bucks.
It's fake....a real ghd should have writing on it.

I'm personally partial to the Sedu if you haven't tried it you should do so. I love it!!

Was wondering if you have tried it and what your thoughts are on it.

this looks exactly like my cortex.. cortex does have heat settings..from low,,450... on and off,, red light turns green in seconds when its hot. is unreal!! i got mine at tj max for 29.99..

I think that the chi is kind of overrated..i tired it but didnt like it
I have really thick hair so my mom bought me another really expensive one which also sucked
I had one that i got from my salon that i use for my bangs and i started using it on my hair and it works soooo good it was only like 30 bucks!
Oh yeah and how much was that iron?
