clearly another under rated drummer that needs recognition for his skills :) amazing energy and refreshing that he does blasts and amazing fills in a different and interesting way the blast beat especially is amazing
His triplet blast beat technique used in this video is simply Swiss Army Triplets but with the flat flams. In his other video, the 16th note blast beat he plays is played using flam taps (again, with flat flams)
sick drummer, sick band, and i deffinately gotta try out that style of blast beating cus it looks so much easier than trying to keep triplet blast like that up at that speed for a long time
Sick Sick drummer and on top of that your very tasteful and void of all that generic metal drumming. I like your drums too, very nice indeed. Keep up the good work, really enjoying your videos.
Great drumming dude. I play for an up and coming metal band and watchin ur vids is def inspiring! I watch these vids too much haha If you get a chance check out Incide on here or myspace. Were gonna be touring Europe next year so Ive been workin on my chops double time
i have to say fair play on this video dude real nice i also watched your hour long video as well. i have to ask though do you use those ear phones for recording as well and at the same time would you recommend having guide guitars whilst recording this genre of music because my guitarist is being a pain in the ass about him being a guide guitar whilst recording :P btw you have the same kit set up as me dont have to a big kit to play metal i always say.
Now there's one thing I'm interested about the bassdrum pedals.
Since Axis have such a hefty price tag to them I actually wonder if there's any rational reason to get some.. or anything compareable in performance like the Pearl Demon Drive.
I think you should be able to play the same stuff on a cheap generic let's say 150$ doublepedal or you'll be disappointed because the new pedals won't make you play any better.
So is there anything these pedals can to for you except making you feel special?
@KillerFrettchen If you can find a cheaper *longboard* pedal, let me know. The added length makes a BIG difference. So does *direct drive*...there are a few sites out there offering fairly cheap direct drive retro-fitting.
Honestly dude, if you had tried these pedals out, you would know they feel TOTALLY different from a normal pedal, and that has nothing to do with the price tag. Its unfortunate that they are pricey, but they DO make a big difference.
@seanlame well, I admit that I hadn't had the chance to play those pedals. They're quite hard to get your hands on around here. Though I tried the Pearl Demon Drive which is said to be comparable. But I only messed around with it for like 5 minutes at a local store. They are a bit cheaper, I think and can be transformed into a longboard pedal.
But thanks though, I think about getting me those when I got the money :)
@KillerFrettchen and I agree you should be able to play on any pedal, which is why I practice on pearl eliminators even more than I do on my Axis Longboards.
@seanlame oh, one more thing... is there a footstopper available for the axis? On all the pictures I saw across the internet they never feature a footstopper. Which I figure would be a bit annoying. My foot tends to travel up to the chain on my cheap generic let's say 150$ pedal which doesn't have a stopper on the right pedal.
@ddrummerNC Who are you to say I'm not having fun while I play? Music with this technicality requires utmost attention...lose your train of thought for a split second and you've lost your place in the song. Its easy to look like you're having fun when the music you are playing has lots of space for you to move around. I play for the song....and this song requires MORE attention to detail and LESS flair. Thats just the way it is. Thanks for your opinion.
This is a great piece of drumming. Thanks for sharing with us!
For me you sound like a mixture of Killswitch Engage, Opeth and Amon Amarth. This may be a strange comparison, but it's not meant in a bad way. Your band has really good songs and I'm definatly going to buy your record. First Reign needs more attention - as a guitarist i enjoyed the stringwork as well ;)
Though your rehearsal room looks as untidy as ours - maybe you want to give my band a look? -> myspace/divineimputation
this is one ass-kicking drumming sean...I can't remember when I last saw drumming like that...keep practicing and getting the best there ever was... \m/
hoe much would you pay... i have a pdp set, it's great and quite affordable (about 1000 dollars with hardware but without any cymbal) the sabian cymbals in the video are very expensive. again at least 1000 bucks... but there are good cymbals witch arent as expensive (istanbuls are great)
@seanlame how sure are you? man i cant beleive i am speaking to a guy that is playing on youtube this good, also, i have looked at your other vids with first reign, grow your hair back!!! :D
I'm sorry, but if you call first reign hardcore, you really don't have any sort of grasp of metal and it's sub genres. There are no hardcore vocals, ie call outs and group chants, there are no breakdowns, and there is little, if any, punk influence. Seriously, you have no idea what you are talking about! - Sean Lang
this video motivated me to play drums rather than do homework, haha, amazing drumming man, and I actually like your band a lot, you guys are not excessively screamo, it sounds great
Sean Lang, if it in fact IS you, no offense but I can very clearly see from what you're typing that you are an typical American, and the typical American usually doesn't know the difference between Metal and Hardcore, and you know, its okay, you cant help it. :) And if you dont know what I mean exactly, go check out Lamb of God and you will quickly see that what youre doing is Core. -Finni
@seanlame@seanlame agreed. and i can attest to the fact that this is the real sean lang. ive been watching his videos for many years now. but as for the hardcore comment.. i think what it is is that the kids of today automatically put any type of "screaming" music into the hardcore category, because all of the kids have grown fond of bands like underoath, norma jean, and all of those hardcore influenced "Screamo" bands.
@seanlame why do you hold your sticks that way it looks like they'd slip out at any moment(which they didnt meaning you had some sort of death grip on it) but still it looks funny o;
@poplord909 No its just simple french grip. I also have a bad habit of holding them too far back, near the butt end, that might be what you're referring to as my death grip!
Erm, its called Blast Beats, and no, but I wouldnt call this Metal or something like that.. This is Hardcore, and I will never see Hardcore as a sub- genre to Metal.. At all..

again, he's good, but there is a such thing as over-drumming. there is a point when it just sounds like noise.
