  • I cracked up when Amy said, "Are you doing a bit?" xDDD

  • Curb your enthusiasm - Not! CYE are like housebroken political correct puppies They would never go all out like you guys. I guess that is the penalty of going network, - You lose a dimension(The drawback of not doing it, of course, being less $). Keep up the unpolitical correctness.

    ;-)

  • Curb Your Enthusiasm. That is all.

(Still love you guys and Deity, though.)

  • I've said the same thing!

  • Haha It's like Curb Your Enthusiasm but on YouTube!!! Awesome.

  • @booschman This is so much better than Curb. So much.

  • lucy and mr. diety are married?

  • Do you plan on doing any more episodes of Words? These are hilarious!

  • Did this phone call actually happen? Also, iTunes isn't letting me download the Words episodes, even though they're listed.

  • I absolutely love the ending music. Is there a full version I could get?

  • @ianmathwiz7 Only as a ringtone.

  • @misterdeity Is it on the Season 3 DVD (which I hopefully will be able to get at some point in my life)?

  • I wish there was a "love" button! Er, that sounds... dirty.

  • How about those luxury cars that are basically sound proof? Those have to be worse than my headphones.

  • @sulljoh1 Damn straight! Big love to you, sulljoh1!

  • @misterdeity Haha thanks. That means a lot from you, El. I had this same argument with my girlfriend.

  • Those who are easily offended should stay away from comedy... it's kinda the whole point.

  • Reading the comments, I cannot understand how anyone could be disappointed or offended. This stuff is great, and gets even better over the upcoming episodes. Different from Mr. Deity but just as funny. I just ordered the season 3 Mr. Deity DVD which will include the Words episodes. Got to support independent work that is this funny and well produced.

  • I liked this episode, really funny, great work, and I thought good points made.

  • janegael

Back off! It's this PC attitude that screwing up this country. If you don't like honest and sometimes abstract thought stay away from here. or lighten up! What a bore you people can be!

  • you're up there with Seth McFarlane and John Clesse, sir!

  • eh... need more punch for a first episode...love the Diety though!

  • @markloewenberg If you're looking for a punch, try episode two. That was our original episode one, but we thought it had too much punch.

  • @misterdeity uh...watched two... I'm preferring Mr Diety... too hard for me to enjoy the comedy and deeper situations together through "words" ... might have pulled it back for me with this episode if you had said, "well he got to meet Jesus (or almighty) before any of us" as a positive...

still love your work.... thanks to all...

  • I can't say I was offended as much as disappointed. You're better than that. As I said deaf folks have special training to drive and they pay a LOT of attention to what is going on around them. It's been proven that people talking on the phone are paying far less attention to driving than to talking. It's not a good comparison at all. The law should actually be NO phones in cars...period. And I agree that there are a lot of stupid laws, this just isn't one of them.

  • @janegael Which isn't one of them? That you can't drive with headphones? The irony is that now I do drive with headphones because my hands-free device that I'm mandated by law to use is a pair of Bluetooth wireless HEADPHONES! I think you might be confused. I don't think for a second that it's stupid to allow deaf people to drive. And I would be for banning phone convos altogether as well. My only point was that if the deaf can drive, headphones shouldn't be an issue.

  • @misterdeity 'Simpler just to ban cars for anyone starting now.

[is this where i register my "Lucy = cool and hot anywhere" - type comment/praise? someone has to say it and... well, i am that(it.) guy. Am thinking of saying "Wish i was that iPod"; notes? thnx]

& thnx for continuing to do that voodoo which you y'all do so very well.

  • @janegael P.S.: You do get that the character I'm playing is a bit of an insensitive jagoff, right? Please watch episode two.

  • Since my son was born deaf I found this less funny than I'd hoped when I came here. Deaf folks have to have extra mirrors and some special training to drive. Having lived in Hollyweird for awhile I know that most folks there get their drivers licenses out of a cereal box. If you want to be funny, don't target someone who is disabled. Ok?

  • @janegael I'm sorry you were offended. The point was not to say the deaf shouldn't drive, but to make fun of our stupid laws. We have a new one here in CA -- you have to use a handsfree device to talk while driving. I have nearly wrecked my car several times trying to grab and properly attach this hands-free device to my ear, while I could have instead just hit "speaker" and held the phone without incident. And if the deaf can drive, why not the hearing with headphones?

  • Damn, this is SO funny! You gotta make more episodes! I just donated some funds your way. You deserve to become syndicated. Keep it up! :)

PS. I'm also a "formon" (as you put it). Excellent stuff!

  • And what about those DEAF mothers with children driving in the HOV lane? Huh? What about that?

  • Ooh! I didn't even think of that one! You're good!

  • whats with the bad camera angle. so distracting.

  • "Did you just pull out a race card?"

I heard, "Did you just fall out a race car?"

    Ha!

  • jrtanne-- have you thought about one of the new DSLR cameras that shoots hi def? I 'm about to demo one, I;m pretty excited about the ability to use 35mm lenses. I don't know about the color space of the cameras though

  • Yes, I have. I think they look fantastic! Whatever is lost with 4:2:0 color is gained in that big beautiful sensor and 35mm depth of field. The big problem is audio. I just don't want to have to do any traditional syncing. It's so ugly.

  • I love your work but what camera do you use I us a canon XL1s and its good but can i still edit the color to look as clear as yours in Mr.D

  • We use Panasonic HVX200s. And no, you will not get the color from an XL1s you get from an HVX200. The XL1s (which I owned previously) is a 4:1:1 DV (SD) device. We shoot in HD in 4:2:2 color. It makes all the difference in the world. Some of the 4:2:0 cameras don't look that bad, but I hate editing HDV. DVCProHD is a fantastic codec.

  • @misterdeity thats great I was trying so hard to get the color correction made in films apart form using levels and tint but the money it would cost for that camera is not happing anytime soon so i love my canon ( no bit here) thanks for taking the time to get back with me Your a cool guy. I love your shows very well thought out and great camera shots

  • One of the things you could do to make your footage look more "filmic" is to buy a 35mm adapter like the M2 or Letus (sp?). Take a look at the Larry/Deity trailer --- that's the kind of look you can get with 35mm lenses on the front of the camera. It makes a world of difference, and the cost is no prohibitive. Also, try transcoding the footage to DVCPro50 or Prores before correcting. And try something like Magic Bullet.

  • Cheers guys (think it is because of the chord getting caught in your arms for turning.. not the sound) but funny anyway

  • I'm using Bluetooth headphones now. Brilliant1

  • most likely i am completely wrong on that, however that is what the cop said during traffic school once. the law looks like it just doesn't want both ears covered unless needed.

  • Was the back focus off on this episode?

  • Back focus? Your assuming we're professionals who use equipment capable of that kind of thing. Please!

  • Here's the thing. First, deaf people use the parts of their brains that would be used for hearing to enhance their visual processing. Second, if you're listening to music, that makes you somewhat distracted, so you're even worse than a deaf person. Third, it's all about the greatest good for the greatest number--if there was a way deaf people could temporarily hear, I'd be in favor of requiring them to use that while driving.

  • Thanks for that. This is all a joke though. I'm not really ticked that deaf people can drive. That's just the character I play. I am annoyed that you can't drive with headphones on. I think it's stupid. I'm also annoyed that we now have to use "hands-free" devices to talk on the phone while driving. I've nearly killed myself at least ten times trying to put that stupid BT thing on my ear when I could have easily just hit "speaker."

  • I have to agree its kinda weird; what about vehicles that blast their music so loud that the car two rows down is vibrating.... I would think that's just as distracting; especially to people around you or anything like that. I think we just make stuff up for giggles and see what gets by.

  • Yeah, that's a great one -- the music you can hear a mile away. That should clearly be banned! They can't hear anything more than me in my headphones. BTW, I think I've found a way around this. I now how a set of BT headphones that double as my hands-free device. So, I think I'm safe because you have to use a hands-free device to talk on your mobile in CA.

  • haha :) great stuff!

  • Love this stuff Brian...keep up the great work!

  • I turned a friend onto Mr. Deity recently. Unfortunately, I didn't know he would become an addict. He scarfed all the episodes and went looking for more. I then said, "Did you watch Words yet?" "Words?" "Yes... Oh honey, you need to go watch Words..."

I'm still traumatized by Kenny's cast credit. Both series are two great tastes that go great together--without all the messy chocolate and peanut butter.

  • Thanks! But don't knock the chocolate/peanut butter combo. It's my favorite! I also learned yesterday that it's my daughter's boyfriend's favorite. Damn, I like that guy!

  • By the way - the first four or five episodes of Mr. Deity are pure genius! Amazing.

  • I think the creators of shows/videos on YouTube or any other video site for that matter, should just let the negative comments slide off their backs. Just let it go, don't retort. once you start defending your work or getting offended, it makes everyone involved look bad.

  • I think I have a crush on Amy......

  • Me too!!!

  • misterdeity,

I'm only watching Words for the first time. Great idea, and the first episode was great.

  • BTW, it's not about hearing what's around you: it's about not being distracted.

  • the radio is equally distracting.

  • pastelcolors321, I disagree: the radio doesn't expect you to listen to every word and *answer* to it like a conversation on a cell phone.

There are many statistics and studies on this with real hard data. E.g. search Google for: "Cell phones as dangerous as drunk driving".

  • I was saying the radio is equally distracting as headphones... cell phones are different than ear buds, my friend. unless you have an ipod that asks you questions?

  • God, I can't get enough of Words! I love Deity, but in my opinion words might actually be better.

  • Thanks. We've gotten enough donations and subscriptions recently that I don't have to worry as much about getting other work. Which means... (wait for it...) I have time to start shooting Words again!!!! Look for a new episode later this week.

  • Terrific! I'm glad the donations are coming in for you. Comedy this good deserves to be supported. :)

  • It's anti-hearingist!!!

Fricking Deaf! Them and their ability to drive!!!

  • Did you watch the others. A number of people have made comments like this, but then stick with it and start to get the characters, story lines, etc... If it were a sitcom, you'd give it at least fifteen minutes. Watch episodes two and three and then tell me what you think. Then again, it just might not be your taste.

  • Oh, I get it now. You don't like Deity either because it holds up a mirror and makes you look at your most cherished beliefs. Why didn't you just say that? I can respect that. But this nitpicking about Words and thirty minutes vs. fifteen, etc... just makes you look petty. I'll be happy to debate you on the "strawman" stuff if you want to confront me directly rather than throw this cowardly, passive/aggressive stuff at me. Give me your best (sincere) shot!

  • Yes, that's it. You figured me out. I don't like Mr. Deity because it shakes my belief in god.

Oh wait, what's my screen name. JJh8god, JJ h, eight, god,

JJ hate god. Wow, no wonder Mr. Diety isn't insightful anymore. You can't even see what's in front of your face.

  • So you're a hater? Either way, this is just petty stuff. Go get a life.

  • You're right, your shows are petty and insignificant.

You still never answered my question.

How do you justify asking for donations when you have advertisements on you show and you also sell merchandise?

  • So, if you feel that way, why are you here? Do you realize how psychotic you look? The rest of the people here enjoy this some of them choose to support it. Why do you care? I don't have to justify it to you. If you don't like it, go elsewhere and find your bliss. Why dump on others?

  • You obviously can't detect sarcasm.

Your shows were good, this is a member of your audience communicating their displeasure. Get used to it. Just because you have a show doesn't mean you are immune to criticism.

You're right, nothing is requiring you to justify why you ask for donations while running ads and selling merchandise.

However, not wanting to justify those actions when asked makes you a dick.

Then again, we've already noticed that.

  • I just found your show on one of Dawkins videos and I'm rolling on the floor laughing as I watch and working hard on resisting pushing that damn donate button, but until I do so, ret assured all my prayers go to you and your financial success, which quite honestly I have no problem believing you will make it...up there with the stars. FANTASTIC show you and your team are giving us. Thanks again.

  • Thanks. Go watch episode two "Okay." It's my favorite. B

  • Oh my god Mr Deity himself....:) That's what I was doing before I was interrupted by god himself....lolol

Really this is genius stuff, you guys are really going to make it big. Everything is perfect, the humor, the filming, everything, oh and your wife is hot...but you knew that didn't you....:-)

  • I am an atheist, or something like that (I dont like labels) and I need to tell you: JJH8god???

WTF is this? How old are you!?

I wonder why you hate god... maybe because he didnt listen to your prayers asking for a poney in your 5th anniversary!

Get a grip man! How can you hate something that doesnt exists? Do you hate unicorns too?

  • Wow, going after a username instead of an argument.

    Let's talk about usernames. Schyzzo.

Why are you promoting schizophrenia in a positive light, Schyzzo. Millions of lives are ruined and millions of dollars are spent to fight this disease, yet you name yourself after it.

How cruel can you be to people who suffer from schizophrenia?

As I side note, I do hate unicorns. My father was raped by a schizo unicorn.

Oh and hating god refers to hating the god concept. try talking b4 being an idiot.

  • Right, so you're the type of person that expects everything to be hand delivered to you on a platter and best of all free.

Poor little nooblet, just trying to get by in this big bad world.

  • No, I'm the type of person who expects a quality product especially if they run ads, beg for donations, and sell swag.

Poor little capitalist, just expecting companies to make good products w/o feedback.

  • Mr. Deity = Awesome. Words = Awesome. Keep it coming!

  • Awesome.. very very funny stuff.

  • That was HILARIOUS.

  • lol

  • lovely production

  • Hmmmm. It does make me think that perhaps some technology for deaf driving should be developed. Emergency vehicles have strobes to change the traffic lights as they approach, so perhaps they need to send out a signal that illuminates a special indicator, or triggers a vibration for the deaf drivers. Love your work.

  • Very funny! Keep 'em comin'!

  • OK, I'm going to be a good sport and give you the thumbs up on this one. Anybody else would have blocked me by now, but you seem to value free speech. Good job on the video.

  • Alright! There's the RadarGuidedVermin I don't know, but love nonetheless. Welcome to the show! And yes, free speech (and inquiry) above all (please note that I didn't say "uberalis").

  • Oh my Mr. Deity, that was epic!

  • ★★★★★

  • Ok, I have something mildly serious to ask, if I may.

I am become quite taken with both "Words" and "Deity," so much so, in fact, that I have developed a discomfort with my iTunes.

I go to check the downloads for "Words/Deity." Nothing...

I click the "Update Podcast." It updates. I look at it again... Nothing.

I go to Youtube. I look at the show list...I HAVE THEM ALL.

I check the date on the last episode...over a month.

Question: Is there a hard schedule for the shows somewhere?

  • Brian Keith Dalton just got a kiss from Amy Rohren...I officially hate him now.

  • You're gonna hate me even more --- I get kisses from her daily! Woohoo!!!!

  • That's OK Brian...I heard somewhere that she has a serious evil streak.

  • You don't know the half of it! (God, I'm gonna get in so much trouble for this one.)

  • funny, nice start (saw only ep4 and now this one), but the obvious question needs to be asked - would you add subtitles for the deaf? (and I'm not entirely joking... some of my friends, etc.)

  • I just don't have the time to add subtitles. I wish I did. Sorry.

  • ahh... I see a feature request for Google :)

for a while now I wanted to have the ability to put subtitles on some of the vids I watch here. sometimes an important lecture that should be available in Spanish or Hebrew, sometimes a funny sketch that deaf people should enjoy too.

either way, keep up the good work :)

  • Well, Seefood, you sort of can do that with annotations. Give it a try and see if it works for you. And if it's not adequate, you can use something like MagPIE to caption it before you upload. There are loads of other, though not cost-free, options available as well.

  • slight difference... if you use a subtitle file (which only the video owner can upload), Google will also translate it to more languages. the best I can do is download the video, convert it to something my subtitle sync tools can work with (MPEG), and send Brian the result to upload. meh...

NM, it was just a geeky afterthought...

  • Ah, well, that's an interesting thought. I used to do this kind of thing with SMIL. The SMIL file would contain references to the media and the time coded text file and the player would sync the two: either QuickTime or RealPlayer. Whatever happened to all of that robust ability of the players?

  • This is good stuff. Not quite as good as Mr. Deity, which is pure dead brilliant genius level funny comedy. But this is still funny enough for me to keep watching for more.

  • Very good sir, looking forward to more.

  • Mr. Deity was awesome...!!

Sorry but, this just isn't doin it for me. Too much whining for me.

  • Dude! (or Dudette!) That's only the first episode. Give it a chance for heaven's sake. Would you watch the first 4 minutes of a sitcom and write it off? Of course not. Don't be silly.

  • O'k.....everyonen deserves a 2nd chance....especially God

  • There we go. That's the right attitude! At least watch the four episodes that are up. I mean, c'mon --- you don't have 15 minutes to kill? Puleeeezzzz. (Thanks for the second chance.) B

  • Hah. I see what you did there. "First Four minutes..." Now that, sir, is funny.

  • Episode 2 and 3 had me on the floor laughing this show is great

  • Brilliant! Looking forward to more, more, more!!

  • This reminds me of Curb Your Enthusiasm, which I LOVE. :D

  • This is pure genius.

Ok its the same kind of genius that invented bottled water, lethal injection and carpet bombing, but evil genius is still genius. I loved Mr Deity and im Looking forward to more of what ever you guys do.

  • This is great, missed mr deity vids and this has that same great humor and timing! I know you'll say I need to check mr diety at crackle but I've got too many websites I have to check, you should post them here too, Penn from Penn and Teller does, why not you guys? maybe that will be a Words episode

  • Very funny per usual.

Interesting and unique having the same creative group doing two different formats concurrently.

    Bravo Brian.

  • i prefer mr deity episodes.. its funnier..

  • Stick with this one for at least 2 or 3 more episodes. It's much more episodic than Deity, and some of these throw away lines will pay off in later episodes. This is definitely not Mr. Deity, but I think you'll like it --- if you were a Deity fan. B

  • i miss larry's glasses/mannerisms.. did larry have a concusion and regress to college attire and repetitive use of the word dude.. missed that episode

  • Hooray!!

  • do more do more do more

    do anything

just dont leave your fans waiting around

    have some pity okay?

  • this is good.

  • i like this.

it's good to see you people back on the screen.

the only thing i found offputting were the fruit bowl(1:37) and the plant(1:32) you used to sort of frame the picture; they were too big, obtrusive, awkwardly placed. then again, i'm no expert, i could be wrong, or you could have done it on purpose.

  • what do you think brian?

  • strong work b ry... :)

    thanks!

  • Brian, this is genius, man! lol First episode, instant fan, right here. lol

  • Yay! Enjoyed immensely, I love you guys as a team, it feels like a family... except... where's Jesús?!

  • I am convinced that an episode entitled "really-really" has to be in the offing.

    That would be really-really good.

  • I hope this one stays on YT.

  • You broke my heart; I have no WORDS...I shall revisit the old series. Continuously...

  • Mr Deity dealt with weighty issues in a very witty way. Now it's just whining. Why not make fun of upscale whining by putting it in the mouth of folks who are really living on the edge - carpooling the kids to school in Gaza, avoiding the land mines on the way to market in Afganistan, another typhoon in Madagascar.

  • That does sound funny. I think YOU should do that show. I promise I'll watch. In the meantime, I'm just trying to make people smile a bit here and there. And the fact that we all whine about these little things (some more than others) while there are people navigating land mines is one of the funniest things about the human condition. At least it is to me. Follow this for a little while longer. You might enjoy the various threads. Or, just stick to Deity. He'll be back soon.

  • Brian, keep doing that and I will compare your work (favorably ;-)) to Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's series.

  • So happy to see new stuff from you guys! I still love Mr. D, but this looks like a fun series too.

  • You guys are all such great actors! I love the way every line is delivered. So glad to see you're back!!

  • funny, but i still love mr. deity better.

  • Agreed

  • Amazing, as allways :) Keep it up!

  • I like it! So it's like a "behind the scenes" of the series itself. Solid premise for this format, keep it up!

  • WINNER!!!!!! You got it. That's exactly the premise of this series. Good on ya!

  • Wonderful.

  • I'm all for stricter carpool laws... especially since I ride a motorcycle. 50 mpg, so to get Federal Highway funds, we're allowed to use all commuter lanes.

I actually hate the large trucks in the commuter lanes... the idea is to give a benefit to those who are saving gas. I don't care if you have 3 people in that RV, or moving van... you're still getting 7 mpg...

  • I adore annoying but loveable characters! Looking forward to more...also, glad to hear MD may be coming back here.

    MVG

  • OH my friggin' Diety! You guys are back?! Love it! You made my day!

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeet when was your last vid this is awesome

  • wooohoooooooo! Welcome back!!! Now finally something on youtube that'll be worth watching again. Great job. More, more!!!

  • loved it. looking forward to more and the return of Mr. Deity

  • Pretty good... very curb your enthusiasm-ish. ;)

  • Decent. A little meta, but I guess that's okay.

  • Eh.

  • yea you guys are back!

and I've been wondering the same thing, I can't wait for this list

  • I've missed you guys.

  • Are you doing a bit?

  • Oh, I LOVE this! "Mr. Deity" was hilarious, and so is this!

  • Fun... it's good to see the gang in action!

  • Awesome, any idea of when we'll see episode 2?

  • In two weeks.

  • I look forward to it. I'm curious why Mr. Deity left youtube, and is it possible words might as well?

  • At this point, we have every intention of bringing Mr. Deity back to YouTube. We'll have an announcement shortly.

  • Mr. Deity left YouTube because we signed an exclusive deal for season two with Sony/Crackle. At this point, we have every intention of bringing Mr. Deity back to YouTube. We'll have an announcement soon. B

  • Comment removed

  • Haha! Nice bit, B-Ri

  • Fantastic! I missed you guys so much!

  • funny.

    very larry david-esque.

and I mean that as a compliment.

  • hahaha ^,^ brilliant

  • Good video, great to see you're back.

Suggestion: making an alternate video with captions?

  • Haha great. Give us more!

  • Time I bought a TV network so I can make the easiest decision in broadcast history which is to sign you guys to a full season of half hour shows.

Anyone seen my checkbook? I know it's somewhere here on my desk. Uh, this could take a while, guys...

  • It's like a less funny Larry David

  • With the mannerisms of Steve Carell.

  • hey i loved mr. diety plz make more of it but i love a new start on another series check out my site and subscribe PLZ!!!!!!

  • Great start, looking forward to more from you guys. I hope Mr. Deity starts up soon. It seems like it has been gone for a year and I have completed deity withdrawal (but I am willing to get hooked again).
