When is the album being released? Pitchfork said it would be released in January while Johnny Jewel said Valentine's Day, but it hasn't been released yet =[
@crystalcapa If you like their facebook page Johnny says that the release was delayed because they are still in the process of pressing the vinyl and all the other sometimes difficult things that come with processing a great package that may take a few more weeks...I can't wait either, this album is going to be the best!
This lo-fi nostalgia thing has got to stop. If people have been working on the follow-up to their debut for 5 years, you wouldn't expect it to sound like their first tape demo ever.
No dude. Tape hiss is a fad. You can use today's recording technology and still be underground. Almost anybody can afford proper studio equipment nowadays. I'm positive they'd even record with modern equipment and put hiss filters on afterwards, that's retarded.
@eshamturgenev I don't think you get how it's not correlated the sound with how mainstream they are. It's about a sound and keeping it. It may be a fad, but it comes with the 'indie' sound that these guys have. Although I do support your final statement.
“Kill For Love” continues the band’s penchant for popular-sound defiance that made Chromatics and their also-resurgent Do It Better peers Glass Candy so exciting in the first place. In my mind I was waiting for change, but the world just stays the same. Here’s hoping bare vocals catch on—it just seems so honest. Maybe Kill For Love will inaugurate a sea change where artists come to terms with themselves and start being open about how they sound when they sing.
This is neat - the vocals are ace but they are definitely not mixed in - they need to either go down a tiny, tiny bit or a bit of reverb on them to make 'em sit in the mix ... still, that's just my take. However, it's actually really nice to hear vocals so straight.
Is it me or are the the vocals produced kinda high in the mix? As much as I love Chromatics and their sound, I think it's quite overwhelming in this song.

the melody is so out of the 80's, it makes me want to get in my DeLorean and gun to it 88 mph.

@eshamturgenev That's the point. Not selling out like The Strokes, The Kooks and several other bands did.

vox. should have been pushed down farther into the mix...it's like having 2 separate tracks playing at one time... and it's not stylish
