Been listenteing to them since about 1970! I saw Robin Williamson perform a solo gig in Aberdeen many many years ago and he changed the lyric in the first verse to..For those who died on either side, in Belfast or the streets of Derry. Beautiful song.
One of my all time favourite ISB songs. I was fortunate enough to see/hear Robin Williamson perform this sometime in the mid 80s at the Purcell Room in the Royal Festival Hall.
Never heard the song before. ISB went missing for me a bit after their first two albums (loved the first one!). Love this though. The Blair point is a good discussion. The idea of just one child being blown to bits in Iraq, on the basis of a lie, is just as big a nightmare to me as the other atrocities. They come from the same pit.
Thoughtful video... I think I am right in saying that this version is not the one recorded for the Hard Rope album ... is it from a BBC recording I wonder?
I understood the original text was 'To those who died on either side/ In streets of Belfast and of Derry'. I like the actual, more general text better. On the other hand, what was going on in Belfast and Derry when this song was written WAS horrible.
Thank's for that Tj. I would never have associated this song with the "troubles" had you not mentioned it, but whatever its origins the song fits well to both scenarios.
I used to have the album way back in the late 1970's: Itkhos, was the name I think...this song was on it...I really loved it...where can I buy the album or the remastered CD?...
Sorry to hear that Bobbo. It still plays OK on my PC.

@norgesregenter Correct. The version that does appear on that album is the "Live" version.

This is one of their best. Late 60s early 70s are summed up by ISB. Anyone else as old as me?

Finally found this tune I missed so much, (since 74-75?) - thanks to Incredible SB! Eventually broken gun give sense to layers deep within...

I love this song. Cuando la escuchaba con 18 o 19 años, conduciendo, al atardecer, por bosques,.... sublime.

Great great song, and strong video. Bush and Blair next to Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot etc is a bit much though.

Bit much? Yes! But what they do have in commomn is the value of "someone elses" life to uphold what is important to them.

Really powerful vid - makes you think about the tragedy of so many lost lives(so many very young)in wars.
The music is great & very appropriate.
