Dumb kids like that are the reason why the characters now have bodygaurds. I've heard in the old days the characters were allowed to roam free without escorts. Legend has it that when The Beatles arrived in Los Angeles in 1964, rumour spread they were trying to escape their fans by posing as Disneyland characters. Hordes of teenage girls descended upon the park and ran after the characters screaming, "JOHN! PAUL!"

I wish I had been the one there to take this footage myself cause the Hyenas are a rare sight. In a couple of weeks Mickey's Boo-To-You Halloween Parade will startup again at the Magic Kingdom. Shenzi, Banzai and Ed will be in the parade, so hopefully they will be filmed and included in more videos elsewhere on YT.

True. Normally when a Disney villain comes into power they try to reestablish everything under a new order, but Scar took the Pride Lands to the point of an ecological collapse.  Since he was never groomed to be a King, when he became King he did not have any idea how to manage his kingdom. He just lay around eating and getting fat while everything else fell apart. The Hyenas would have inevitably turned against him; they had more morals than he did.

Even if Simba had not shown up at the end, I think Scar had a full-scale revolution on his paws. The Pride was ready to move on, the Hyenas were ready to follow the Pride (since they would be going wherever the heards had gone), and everyone who had remained behind was facing starvation. Hunger would have compelled someone to act lest they continue to sit around growing emaciated.

Very preceptive. I suspect those brats think they can push Ed around because he does not look as serious as either Banzai or Shenzi, but hes the only one of the bunch to defend himself.  They should no better than to push around a Hyena; their jaws have the most powerful bite of any land animal. Stupid kids don't know what they are messing with, and who they are missing; I'd be giving Ed hugs all day long.

I know what you mean. I don't think of the Hyenas in the Lion King as being evil at all. They were certainly misguided and mislead by Scar (who was absolutely evil), but the Hyena clan was not evil. I would totally pal around with the Hyenas over the Lions any day. They are sorta like Klingons: at first you might see them very neatively and in very simple terms, but once you get to know them better you'll find three very distinct and dynamic personalities with loads of potential.

I wonder if you could get the Hyenas and Lions to break cadaver around the table of friendship. I can understand why the Hyenas are always trespassing on the Pride Lands. Would you want to live in a graveyard? Nevermind simply the poor real estate value and aesthetics, it's also a terrible place to attract prey. I am sure both species could create some sort of agreement to accommodate parts of the savannah to each of their hunting interests.

They all get so little attention. The only time the Hyenas seem to make regular Disney appearances is during the halloween parades, and even then you can't meet them like you could in this video.

But Disney knows they have a fan base; that's why they were included in Lion king 1 1/2. They have three fantastic personalities. And I for one do not think of them as "evil"; they are many things, but certainly not evil.

I would like to see the Hyenas spun off into their own Direct to DVD movie. I know they had their spot on the Timon and Pumbaa TV series, but it wasn't the same because the animation wasn't as good and two of the three original voice actors did not reprise their roles (Jim Cummings as Ed was the only one). They could tell a tale about what happened to the Hyena clan after it was cast from the Pride Lands.

I think Whoopi Goldberg and Cheech Marin would do it. On a recent episode of The View, Whoopi was going through the Disney vault, and when she came upon a model of Shenzi she shouted, "LOOK AT ME!" And maybe Tommy Chong could realize the long held idea of playing another Hyena against Cheech, then they could do the video commentary.

Oh yes! In the year and a half since this video was posted nobody has as of yet uploaded a similar video of the Hyenas being meetable characters. There are lots of videos of them in the Halloween Parade at Disneyworld, but if they make appearances elsewhere I have yet to see the visual proof.

Not at Disneyland USA, although Timon and Rafiki do make appearances (I have not heard of the Hyenas being sighted). Disneyland Paris has the Legend of the Lion King stage show, and both Disneyworld and Hong Kong Disneyland have the Festival of the Lion King stage shows.

Wow! The hyenas are VERY rare meetable characters! But I do wish that they'd modify the costumes like they did to Captain Hook and Pooh.

Maybe the reason they are rare is 1-People don't know they can go out in costume form, 2-They are more cumbersome costumes than other meetable characters, and 3-People don't like the way they look. All three would contribute to a low demand and hence a low presence.
