Overall the movie was excellent (like a modern day 2001 a Space Odyssey), but I think they really screwed by turning it into a slasher film towards the end to attract a teen audience. I thought the soundtrack was excellent too.

It wasn't a slasher pic. It was a clash between religion and science.

Religion in this film is where people turn without hope. In abandoning a love of this world for love of another imaginary one, eschatological thoughts take over and consume the previous captain.

The message is that it is only through science that we find hope and redemption.

We werent talking about the entire movie.

We were referring to the point in the movie where the crispy dude was murdering everyone. The writers even said they were disappointed with the turn it took.

Very well made, I think sunshine was underrated. I mean the storyline has been done to death (Armageddon, The Core, Deep Impact.) But Danny Boyle did it in a way that makes it more philosophical.
