Well I just want to thank you for yet again a great video! I will say that I went out and tried this method yesterday with slightly less success than you. It's obvious that you've done that before :) I did get the bearings out but mine were far from reusable. Keep the videos coming, i'll watch everyone of them.
Since we are basically working on doing the same swap I thought I'd share some info I'm only using the 6 bolt block and mostly everything on the 7 bolt head but I found this site that helps in modifying the 7 bolt oil pump into a 6 bolt bottom its a better option if done correctly I believe since it allows u to use ur crank sensor and ur 2g ecu with no cas but it is...rather difficult to fabricate here's a link to it its a 1g to 2g swap guide...just thought I should share info
you should use an anaerobic sealant. to make sure there no bleed out. i work at a machine shop and. i had many of these bleed out oil after doing the same thing u did. but never happend agian ofter useing the sealent. and you should do that during final because during honing and boring. metal can back fill the cavity. so you want all the oil passages to be open during final cleaning. and as the seal go to an automotive maching shop. and ask for sleeve lock. its used to seal wet sleeves.
@Mr04fordranger That means I'm giving you props on the sealant = to BogusSVO on DSMtuners because you're a Ford guy that did the same thing on my channel, also with your first post. Thank you for the great info and your July subscription!
@Mr04fordranger Thank you for that information!!! Thumbs at you!
I totally follow you on "during the final". My bearings are actually laying on my workbench right now. I knocked 'em back out before wrapping it up. I wanted those passages open while its getting tanked. I just demonstrated the DIY method because I could. ;)
BTW: BogusSVO, a Ford specialist/machinist, left the best information about 4g63 oil systems out of any member on the board, and he did it on his first-ever post.
@bboywild69 Thanks! Really, there's a ton of other balance shaft removal videos on YouTube. I think a wise YouTuber should watch them all. I'm just one doood. I hadn't watched any of them before I posted this, and some people have some cool tricks up their sleeves. One guy packs the pump with vaseline, I've always just used grease. Some people even use the right tools. I tend to Jafro engineer when I don't. :P
Hahaha, keep it greasy, and if its squeaky grease it twice! I like that, and love your videos, any progress on your colt/mirage build? I presume this engine is going back into the eclipse? Any way great stuff and good luck with it:-)
@TrueBlueEG8 Yes, the 6-bolt is for the GSX. Getting the GSX chassis out of the garage is actually Colt progress at this point. It's my intention to spend the winter indoors welding the Colt into shape and getting the driveshaft shortened. If I weren't documenting everything so meticulously in HD, I'd probably have both finished by now but I'm enjoying the journey as long as everyone else is.
U spun a bearing now ur replacing the block with a 6 bolt same happened to me I rebuilt the old 7 bolt but I don't think it'll last long I also have a spare 6 bolt block laying around it'd be awesome if u could help out with the 6 bolt bottom end 7 bolt head swap I know ill need a cas do the headbolt holes to 12mm etc but id like to see more from what u got 2 ur videos are very helpful and informative!
@ozyeclipse You came to the right place. That's precisely the swap I'm doing. I'll probably be putting a 7-bolt head on the Colt as well, so you may even see it twice.
I may rebuild my 7-bolt if it didn't crankwalk. I'm beginning to have my doubts that it's crankwalk, but can't yet say for sure at this time. You will all see soon-enough!
Hey what kind of Mic do you use for your voice overs? I am putting a TON more effort into my videos and I want to start doing voice overs because to me it seems easier to explain what I want to say after I shoot the video! And as always great video bud!
@iexploderacoons Google Canon AH-X1s. Its embarrassing what I do. After the edits are done, the I just shoot myself doing the voiceover and export the audio. It's a lot more work than it should be.
I have a Presonus Firebox, and a Audio Technica AT2020, but my power adapter for the Firebox ate it. It's still bus-powered and works with my guitars, but I need phantom power for the mic. I'd love to use it because the motor whine from the camera drives me nuts. It's quiet, but still...
very nice write up jafro keep them comen bud.... have you lined out what parts your going to be rebuilding this motor with and what kinda power your gana be putting to that old 6 bolt ?
@domestickilla Yep. Manley Pro series rods & pistons. 8.7:1 with <.001 deck job and a .051" MLS gasket. The head's already ported with old-skool Crower dual-valve springs, tit retainers and 3g lifters. Yes, I said tit retainers. I've got plenty more to throw at the bottom-half, but don't want to give away too much yet. ;)
@Jafromobile Would like to, but alas I just finished a new motor for my WRX. Maybe after the wife calms down about the price tag of this car I can snag another DSM...
@watchforfinger Actually most relays contain a solenoid. A solenoid is just a magnetic coil that actuates [something]. A relay is specifically an electrical part where one circuit mechanically actuates another completely separate circuit. Technically considered a solenoid switch.
A solenoid in automotive applications is usually a device that's electrically actuating or sensing a hydraulic or pneumatic device. Unless it's a high-voltage starter solenoid which is controlled by a relay.
That is geniuses! I'm never disappointed when watching one of your DIY vids. Your the man Jafro.
