  • I hated working on this gun back in my air force days... safty wiring the breach block was always a bitch.

  • i love it when people think there gun experts just because they play cod

  • @engaurd You stupid ignorant idiot...It is a reference to a Team Fortress 2 trailer. Go look up "Meet the Heavy" before you start making idiotic accusations

  • WTF are you guys smoking? The GUA 17 is basically a M134D which shoots a 7.62 X 51 nato round. In 2005, 7.62 x 51 costed about .51 cents a round. .51 x 4,000 (6,000 rpm was only used in the 60s and was unsustainable and lowered shorlty after) = $2,040 PER MINUTE or $408 dollars in 12 seconds. How the eff did you get $400,000 dollars for 12 seconds!? You tool bags may have yourselves confused witht he GUA 8 from the A-10 Thunderbolt and I doubt they are even that expensive.

  • @schrank17 It's a quote from a Team Fortress 2 video.

  • @schrank17 Its a quote you ignorant fool...

  • this is just too cool

  • I've worked on M61A1 guns for almost 20 years... from F-4's, F-15 and F-16.... and I've never- ever seen one that fires 15 mm. Only 7.62, 20mm, 25mm and 30mm.....

so I don't know what in the hell your talking about.

An entire F-16 gun system- including the gun, units, chutes and elements only cost about $150,000

  • @kawi1167 not only that but to back up kawi1167, there is no 15mm round on todays market, 12.7mm is a .50cal 15 mm is .590 cal and as far as i know, no such round is about, .60 cal yes, as a pistol round and also in hunting rifle form

  • @TheHonkkis well worth it

  • i think he means $400.00 not 400.000

  • i have 8 of these with 90hours of ammunition

  • 400 000 dollars? I smell bullshit.

  • @rayden85 It's a video game reference.

  • @rayden85 its because the gun shoots so fast that it uses up o many rounds. the rounds are not cheap as well, but 400,000 dollars does sound a bit much

  • And it still couldn't beat Solid Snake

  • it costs 400000 dollars to fire this weapon for 12 seconds

  • But the question is well it blend ?

  • @thekoalak ahahahaahha i made the same comment on an alien vid few days ago

  • well it would be the best $389.68 of my life

  • the springs are activated by blowback, gas operated or electric mechanism?

  • its seriously scary how man can create amazingly wonderous tech...to kill each other

  • vulcans use the neck pinch as a weapon.

  • enemy death machine is spinning up!

  • could minigun use a belt?

  • What's preventing them from increasing the fire rate? They thought that the old gatling guns (made by Gatling) couldn't fire quickly, but one achieved a rate in excess of 5000 rpm.

And why is it called a cannon? Does it fire shells?

  • @ipbot4000 The practical limitations to increasing fire rate are numerous. Remember, though, that the vulcan cannon fires in excess of 100 rounds per second, so the rate of fire is already very high.

It's called a cannon because, like you guessed, it fires shells that carry payloads. HOWEVER, the weapon in this video is a GAU 17/A minigun, not a vulcan cannon as the title suggests. The M61 vulcan cannon fires 20mm shells, while the GAU 17/A fires 7.62mm solid bullets.

  • @LotsOMovies Glad someone pointed that out, I was just about to post that this wasn't the Vulcan Cannon before I noticed your post. I mean come on, it clearly says GAU-17/A right on the ID plate, lol. God it's sad that I can't even watch youtube videos anymore without noticing inconsistancies... thanks USAF!

  • WOW!! I never knew that!

  • dear santa... XP

  • In this war on terror, every household should have one.

  • @kook2222 i already have five (^_^)

  • ok, now im gona go build 1 !!

  • Richard's design hasn't changed a bit

  • why do bullets need shells?

  • @samuriguy909 Bullets need shells because their shells have the explosive power inside them and the spark generator in the back to ignite the powder.

  • @samuriguy909 they don't. look at the H&K G11 project. it's a caseless design.

the bullet is encased in a high temperature explosive, where nothing is left in the breach after firing. it's got an insane fire rate as it doesn't require an extraction and ejection cycle. it uses a rotating breach that turns the rounds 90*< in-line with the barrel. each mag hold 50 rounds and is loaded from the top.

it's one hell of a weapon, too bad they stopped it's development.

  • Bob Munden > Vulcan Cannon.

  • AK630 is kinda something....

  • Chuck Norris uses that as an electric tooth-brush.

  • oh.... i always woundered how

  • it cost 400,000 dollars to fire this weapon, for twelve seconds

  • @falconpunch10 ha team fortress reference

  • @falconpunch10 Really? damn thats pretty bad but idk if they usually carry enough for 12 sec of fire

  • @magicjj7 no, it was an in-joke, but they might cost that much :O

  • @falconpunch10 That one prolly costs around 50 bucks a second to fire. A larger gatling cannon like the one on an A-10 however, it might just cost that 400k for 12 seconds....but not even The Heavy could carry that weapon lol.

  • Nice job, Great animation, the breech bolts are not too accurate and the breech bolts do not rotate when the round is chambered but the rest looks pretty good. It fires 6,000 rounds a minute if it is an M61A1 vulcan cannon, thats 100 a second. Amazing weapon. Thanks for posting it.

  • that would suck if it jammed

  • TOO SLOW! Just Kidding.

  • USAF Air Defense Gatling Gun

  • U have way to much time on ur hands

  • yup , sweeeet

  • It costs four 400.000 US dollarss to fire this weapon... for twelve seconds!

  • @TheHonkkis for renting this weapon, or to buy the ammo? :D By 3000 $ rounds per minute and 12 seconds of firing, one patron would have to cost 666$ to reach your 400.000 $ xD

Sorry for my bad english... :/

  • @TheHonkkis TF2 reference?

  • @nameno1elsehas hell yeah

  • @TheHonkkis who voted this up? if that was true, each round would have to cost $600. it's probably more like $6.

  • @dragan221 incindenary specially designed bullet's with high tech explosives and triggers inside... cost's slightly more then 6$

  • @TheHonkkis where'd you get that from?

  • @TheHonkkis actually it's $389.68

  • @TheHonkkis And yet, no one wants to donate to Amnesty International..........

  • @TheHonkkis NOT IT ITS NOT UR AMMO UR SHOOTIN LOL TAX DALLERS AT WORK!!!

  • @MrTeckman01 its good seeing it thought. and its fun shooting one too :)

  • @TheHonkkis good tf2 reference

  • @TheHonkkis thats funny i just shot one at knob creek machine gun shoot fo 30 secound and it cost 50$

  • @tanker882 Im pretty sure you didnt shoot a 20mm cannon there, 30 sec whit this gun means 3000 rounds shot. 50:3000=0,0166$ per one round, thats some cheap ammo you got there!

  • @filozovs it was a m134 delta chambered in 308. i have shot a 20mm though threw my job

  • @TheHonkkis money well spent!

  • @TheHonkkis USA will be bancrupt before Obama wakes up in the White House.

  • @TheHonkkis Where's the problem? Im not from the united states :D haha

  • @TheHonkkis Overwhelming firepower...worth it. Damn the price of .308 though.

  • @TheHonkkis damn dude 400k, couldnt you like buy it cheaper?

  • @TheHonkkis

It actually probably cost under 3,000 USD.

  • @TOSViolator Are you kidding me? Those bullets are about $5.50 Each. It shoots 6,000 rounds in a minute and in a second it shoots 100 rounds a second = 1,200 rounds in twelve seconds. 1,200 x 5.50 = $6600 USD. Not including the type of round, 5.50 is how much a .50 call bullet is, and gatlings shoot 15-20mm.

  • @TboneSTEAK111 What about the 25 mm mounted in the C-130U gunship there Sparky..... and I've worked on M61A1 guns for almost 20 years... and I've never- ever seen one that fires 15 mm. Only 7.62, 20mm, 25mm and 30mm.....

  • @TheHonkkis Bullshit!

  • @TheHonkkis If you fire this weapon for 12 seconds, you're guarenteed to do 400,000 USD worth of damage.

  • @TheHonkkis Dumb fuck is dumb fuck It is $250 for 20 rounds the brass alone is alot to so if you would want one of these "wich i dont think i would want" you would have to do alot of reloading with the empty brass

  • I was a Vulcan gunner. My cannon did not have this type of split bolt that does that partial rotate thing when it pushes the round in the barrel. Otherwise this video looks good.

  • @TuberOnTheLoose That's b/c it says Gau17 at the beginning. This is the minigun, not the Vulcan

  • they already have these on the robots or goint mechs with tanks legs that are being biult right now. to make iraq seem like some anime shit. we already have better shit. its called a cannon we dont need about of big bullets when we can fire a cannon somewhat quickly.

  • Looks so prone to jamming

  • @seansalvador1 In my five years as a gunner I only ever had one jam on a live fire, and that was on the feeding mechanism that pulled the rounds out of the feed chute.

  • @TuberOnTheLoose

Well that all depends on how much you've used them but sounds pretty good to me...

  • great!

  • The Vulcan "mini-gun" was designed and built back in the late 50s and early 60s. I remember seeing it in a copy of either "Mechaincs Illustrated" or "Popular Mechanics"....there was a female model sitting alongside the gun. Petula Clark who was unknown at that time.

  • one thing you dont want to be is a lonely tank out in the desert with that above you

  • @epiphonel100....... Uh, EXCUSE ME, I'm not sure a group of 100 tanks would wanna be on the ground with that thing screaming out kick-ass!!!!!! lol

  • @JTurner427 This thing could fire 3000 rounds per minute, but it couldn't hold that many. The towed version (M167A1) held 500 rounds in the ammo box, the self propelled version (M163A1) held 1100 in a drum. The round was only a 20mm round, which doesn't really scare tanks very much. Any other vehicle would be pretty darn worried though, including aircraft, which is what it was designed for.

  • Comment removed

  • I've always wondered how that worked.

  • I have built many of these guns, although over 40 years old, they are awesome!!!

  • I've always wanted to know how those worked.

  • it cost 400000 dollar to fire this weapon for 12 seaconds

  • @itube141

team fortress 2, the heavy trailer? xD

  • gatling.

  • I'm so happy there's no mw2 comments high five everyone

  • @mambabear You just HAD to bring that up...

  • @productNine im srry but its true

  • 50 rounds a second because they have an electric primer. all that is, that the primer is zapped w/electricity and the shell goes BYE BYE!!

  • LOOOL

  • whoo must be hard to maintain, imaginahaving to lubricate it or even build it by hand.

  • Project "Vulcan" was started in the 1950's and produced several gatling variants in 20mm / M61, M164 / 7.62x54(.308) with slow fire 3400rpm and a fast rate at 7000+rpm powered by hydraulic and electric in later versions. One sure thing is you do not want to be on the receiving end of any of them! One of the most horrible killing machines ever made!

  • That isn't a M61 Vulcan... it's the GAU-17(pause it before it goes in, look at the panel at 0:01) Minigun, a deivative of the Vulcan which was supposed to fire 7.62mm NATO rifle bullets. The M61 is basically the same old Gatling design except it isn't powered by a crank, it's powered by a electricity.

  • They use those to shoot down mortars in Iraq.

  • note: not a gatling gun its a "Vulcan"

Gatling was 1 chamber affixed to multiple rotating barrels

Vulcan is where the whole gun rotates, its the new Gatling gun

  • @GeneralBerger 7 christians didn't like what I said, lmao

  • 維力榨醬麵

  • budah!!

  • @lexmark136

Hell yeah or some of them Sumerian Gods even

  • hell yeah i hear that shit! haha nice!!! :D :L :L

  • nice vid thx for shareing

i always wanted to know how a minigun works

  • lol I don't think that's a minigun, that's several cannons fixed to a rotating axel

  • @Deshara218 your correct thats what a vulcan is, its essentially the evolution of the gatling gun

  • and the vulcan can reach the same firerathe like a minigun?

if it would, it would me much more efficient

  • @mostimbawarri

yes, the Gatling gun can reach the same RoF as the minigun/Gatling gun, you can get much faster than those without barrel cooling issues though

the reason this is the 'new' gatling gun is because the of the multiple firing chambers, it insures less wear and tear on the chamber meaning that its both more reliable and less likely to break down

  • oh thanks, now, i know how it works !!!

  • @antiteacher87 i know ive heard that before somewere (tf2)

  • Oh, i always wanted to see how the mini gun worked :p

  • cool ide, kulan avfyras långt innan den ens kommit in i pipan:)

  • the military have some supercomputers to do it...

  • since when has any military worried about being cost effective?

  • ummm. NEVER

  • my point exactly

  • Military perhaps not so much, but the governments that fund them worry plenty about cost.

  • But when you need to use it, it comes in real handy

  • @nickap47 since Alexander the Great... just because modern day leaders are idiots who dont know how to keep a budget most people think war isn't cost effective when really we are just wasting money on shit like the 1 Billion dollar stealth bombers

  • it is used on fighter aircraft (like the F-15) and on gun ships like the AC-130 (but they might have stopped using it on the AC-130 i might have to check).

  • reversed no longer on f15 but on ac130

  • thats one awesome CGI animation! i wonder how long it took that guy to make.. it sure wasnt easy

  • in simple words if you are getting shot at by this...your fucked

  • HAHA yh but chuck norris will stop it in no time

  • Sucks to be the guy who has to change the oil on the cannon.

  • hippies suck.

  • lmao, that thing is a pansy now a days, look up METAL STORM, that thing will blow ur tiny little minds lmao...

  • Comment removed

  • True, metal storm can get a ridicules fire rate. The problem with metal storm is that it takes THREE DAYS to reload the damn thing.. If you want a gun take a look at the GAU-8/A Avenger thats in the A-10 thunderbolt, the gun is larger than a Volkswagen, they had to redesign the plan to fit around the gun!

  • HAha! GE helps the environment and it also helps on cleaning ou the enemy. LOL.

  • this gun makes me so wet mmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!

  • not a pacifist, just hoping one day america will be less cowboy and reach out to the world.

  • America sends BY FAR more charity money then any other nation...We also invented many of the products, industries, and web services that are used by most people today....and you say we DON'T REACH OUT?? Shove it, hippie!

  • great. any videos on machines that save lives, world peace, etc ?

  • Ergh...pacifist?

  • lol damn hippies

  • Too right man, Dam hippies!

  • Go back to holding hands with your boyfriend at the anti-war rally, hippie.

  • That explains the rotating barrels...

  • Ah, so that's how it's done. Now let me see, where did I put my screwdriver ........?

  • time to build my own :)

  • This is also known as the M61-A1 It will fire 4,000 rounds per min. on low and 6,000 rounds per min. on hi! The real kicker is that it is made by GE! That's right! The people that bring good things to living and bring good things to live!

  • well now i at least know how it works

  • PA PA PA!!!

that thing will rip your nuts off from far far away!

  • i was wondering how they got the bullets inside the chambers! thanks!

  • They need to put one of these on a Tank =/

  • thewy have these on tanks above the barrel that shoots the big rounds -.-

  • they have anti-aircraft tanks that have a larger size model on them

  • onli 3 barreled

  • a modern gatling gun.

  • no need 4 a vulcan cannon look up rail gun they r not hand held yet smallest 1 is on a battle ship but they can go through any metal it fires in magnetic pulses it can pin u to a wall picture a m82 but with a bigger bullet and shit loads more of gun powder

  • been watching eraser much?

  • wooow it's awesome :D

  • It's so amazing how weapons are evolving so fast. XD I love the Vulcan Cannon

  • The Gatling design is little changed from its post Civil War roots. The modern Vulcan series were placed into service during the 1950s and haven't seen many changes since.

  • vulcan raven

  • Damn right vulcan raven.. That's old school shite right there.
