  • Pius xii gave his rich family's life savings away to save 3000 Jews by paying for everything from bribes to ship tickets to get them to south America to escape the Nazis.

today Pius , who died broke because he gave all his money to desperate Jews on the verge of murder, today is routinely criticized for not doing enough to help Jews. wtf?

  • @ned262626

He is criticized not because he did not save enough jews, because he never spoke against the nazi regime.

  • Is that the same actor that played Goebbels in "Downfall"

  • @depeche609 yes, this is a great film

  • Father Jean Bernard was quite the man. And movies about Hitler should be made, because it can bever be forgotten that a man like this existed and actually influenced people with such fervor.

  • Well, normally I do not like any German (or non-German) movies being made about the rule of Hitler: As there have been made far too much of them! German history started during the ages of the Romans and if one lacks historical stuff one can made movies out of the plays of Schiller, Goethe or Grillparzer instead of harping on that period all the time; it gets boring and as the crimes of Communism are not regarded I do not know why the Nazi crimes should be kept in the spotlight all day long...

  • ... though this movie is quite a good one: A Catholic priest being imprisoned for agitation against the German occupation of Luxembourg gets a chance to be released form the prison champ, if he betrays his faith and church via corporation; while having to consider the safeguard of his family and being trapped in a mental duel with a Gestapo officer; one should note that this happened to the priests in Eastern Europe as well after the Communist/Russian conquest.

  • @GreatGrumbledook

The Germans are a people admirable in many ways, but what they did during WWII, though it has in been forgiven, can never be forgotten, precisely because it was an instance of a highly civilized country descending into murderous madness. And if Islam takes over Europe, as they appear poised to do, the whole continent will be plunged into a new age of darkness. Our present comfortable and safe existence is not guaranteed. In fact, it's very fragile.

  • @Jakareh75: You are of course mistaken in many ways and should read the works of the great German philosopher Nietzsche, who explains why cultivated nations do indulge in such things; besides the Germans were far less nasty than the Belgians were in the Congo for example:

  • "... They go back to the innocent consciousness of a wild beast of prey, as joyful monsters, who perhaps walk away from a dreadful sequence of murder, arson, rape, and torture with an exhilaration and spiritual equilibrium, as if they had merely pulled off a student prank, convinced that the poets now once again have something to sing about and praise for a long time to come."

  • "... and who, by contrast, demonstrate in relation to each other such resourceful consideration, self-control, refinement, loyalty, pride, and friendship—towards the outside, where the strange world, the world of foreigners, begins, these men are not much better than beasts of prey turned loose. There they enjoy freedom from all social constraints. In the wilderness they make up for the tension which a long fenced-in confinement within the peace of the community brings about."

  • "Here there is one thing we will be the last to deny: the man who gets to know these “good men” only as enemies, knows them also as nothing but evil enemies, and the same good men who are kept within strict limits by custom, honour, habit, thankfulness, even more by mutual protection, through jealousy inter pares [among equals] ..."

  • @Jakareh75: And should Europe fall to the onslaught of the vile Camel Merchant Cult it will be due to the liberal corruption, which was inflicted by the dull-brained Americans and their diverse evil lackeys, of such a tower of strength as Germany always was! Remember: It was Charles Martell and his Franks (a German tribe) who repulsed the devilish Saracens and Prince Eugene and his Austrians who kept the foul Turks at bay.
