  • how ironic that meridian energy should use a rata flower floating down a river when they want to dam every river they can get their grubby hands on them. shame on meridian.

  • Yeah, theyre probably best to plant a nuclear or coal fired electricity generator in your back yard instead... then you wouldnt have to feel so guilty using their power to post up your opinion of them. Lol.

  • hmm, you're obviously a little dim, but that's ok - i'm sympathetic to that. although my tolerance for dummies isn't what it used to be... anyhow, you're alluding to the idea that hydro is a more sustainable form of electricity generation than nuclear or coal. my arguement is: what would the world look like if we were to give power companies full right to dam whatever rivers they chose to? it would be pretty ugly. anyone ever heard of solar power?

  • Solar power sucks man. The technology just isnt good enough. itll only be usefull when we have lest resisting electricity transport.

  • Meridian should donate a 35mm print of this film to Andy at the Fiordland Cinema!

  • My sister wants the water version played at her wedding. We have a DVD sent from Meridian Energy but it isn't allowing us to play it in our sterio. Any ideas on how I'll be able to play it at her wedding?

  • love this ad!

  • this ad fully makes me cry! but there is a reason!

y'no that flower that they use?? well that WAS a real flower. but it kept getting bashed up so this guy i knew who works at meridian went and like, got his friend to make an artificial one. so they used that. and everyone was happy.

but then the guy i know died and the company was so sad that they buried that very flower on his chest..

    nice huh?

  • that's so sad! what a nice gesture though. sort of a lasting legacy too what with it being shown on tv and all.

  • The production company that made the ads also made some artificial flowers as props. Meridian was given the remaining 2 after filming - one in a glass case and another one stayed on my desk. When our lovely friend and colleague passed away last year, my rata went with him as a symbolic gesture of how special he was to Meridian. He is very much missed.

  • you mean jarrod?

  • Yes.

  • that's so nice - he was great

  • i can play parts of this by ear on my piano. Im learning grade 1 thoery and pratical. When get enough Im going to post a music video for everyone!!! This is one of my favorite tracks and its a shame none of us can have acccess to it. I'll post a video when I have enough. Would be nice if others could who can play by ear add to it!! so we can have a complete peice one day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Music is by Jim Hall, New Zealand's leading composer of music for Advertising, Film and Television. His production company is soundtrax and can be found at soundtraxnz on the web.

  • hey bro, i still remember the first time i saw this ad in the reading cinema and i was totally shocked cos i made me feel so comfortable, i love this ad so much, thanks to putting this up,

  • Awesome, I'm glad it made you feel good!

  • i love the ads.. does anyone know the name of the song/composer? or where, if i can, get the song?

  • I'm pleased you love the ads! Unfortunately, because the music is a special composition, it's not available for use other than for Meridian. I'm sorry about this.

  • I work at Meridian Energy and was involved in producing these ads. Thank you to everyone here who has commented and to girloutofcontrol for posting them. I will attempt to upload high resolution versions in the next couple of weeks (after I've made slight amends to them).

  • will you put up a high quality version soon, i know people overseas who want to see it

  • Higher res versions of the wind and water TVCs have been uploaded.

  • It's the "feather theme" from the end of forrest gump

Thanks, I've been looking for this everywhere to show a friend, where did you get it?

  • To confirm: the flower is a Southern Rata and the music is an original piece by an Auckland composer (although is similar to Forrest Gump's theme). It was filmed around Fiordland and finishes in Lake Manapouri with Meridian's Manapouri power station in the background.

  • Anyone know what song this is? Im sure I recognise parts of it from somewhere other than this advert.

  • That makes me feel all happy in side! I really like "wind" to.

  • Is this a pohutukawa flower? Beautiful! thanks for posting this :) Do you have the other one (wind)

  • Kia Ora:) Im pretty sure its a Southern Rata flower, a relative of the Pohutukawa. I do have the wind one, it just takes forever to upload and I'm impatient... but I will definitely try to upload it tomorrow. Shame they arent clearer... x.s

  • Awesome! Thanks heaps :)
