  • This is my favorite DJ Shadow track. Love it.

  • Everyone Is Giving Some Deep Thoughts On This Video And That Is Cool But What I Like To Do Is Come Home From Work Throw This Jam On And Light Up A Doobie And Relax Faded As A Ghost =) CLASSIC JAM!!!!!!!!!!

  • I Need All My LynnV

  • I discovered this album last summer when I was working my ass off on a Kibbutz in Israel. I had heard of it referenced in the past as one of those albums that you 'must' hear, but I never imagined it would be this good.

After a long day I would put this on and just vibe out and stare at the mountains around me. This song in particular I think really suited the atmosphere and situation I was in. For that reason this album holds a special place in my extensive collection :)

  • Now, is the clicking from the LP-record at the end also a sample from Twin Peaks?

  • The sky is dripping with low, heavy slate colored clouds, the kind of day where it could be 11 am or 6 pm, with no difference in color. You're laying on a mattress on the floor of your quinesstiensially small New York apartment. There's an subtle, sweet-heady aroma of street vendor fare, sweat and sewage. All you hear is the comforting hum of a box fan, the chaos of the world a dozen stories below you and the sound of DJ Shadow's "What Does Your Soul Look Like".

  • A time

when perhaps not every other college student had a plastic cup plastered with a green mermaid and an apple product in the

other had. A time when southwestern prints and were all the rage for interior design and a primary color palate was heading

towards more honest, muted hues. It's a garishly humid day in the late July, one of those hazy, loosely remembered times in

the midst of summer, where emotions of introspection are peculiarly out of place.

  • Picture this: It's sometime in the midst of the 1990s; before the term "social networking" was in our dictionaries, before music technology was more advance and cutting edge than a CD-ROM, before irony was a perfected trade. Seinfeld and Friends were the most popular shows at the time and a liberal president embraced a cheesy but sincere stab at multicultural worldliness. A time when you would see Rosie O'Donnel singing "A Tisket a Tasket" with Elmo, and 40 pounds lighter.

  • theres no other songs like this if any one knows of one please tell

  • @vancityskates1 Parts 2, 3 & 4 of this song.. Also, look up DJ Cam.

  • IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN.

i showed him this and shut his ass up

  • @preliv3s fuck dubstep

  • at 0:22, what is this sample from? or is it a sample?

  • @Myke21 I wish I know. I only know like three samples from this song, but never the powerful chords at 0:22. i know the very bigenning came from Alan Parson Project.

  • WHAT DOES YOUR SOUL LOOK LIKE!?!

DOES IT LOOK LIKE A BITCH!?!

  • @MrGorecki

    "NOOOOOOO!"

"Then why you tryin'a fuck it like one bret?

  • Heard Endtroducing for the first time years ago now, long before I was into ANY other Trip/Hip-Hop stuff... Loved it then and its still one of my favourite albums ever, basically a decade or so on... =D

  • Awh this shit is sweet.. Dj shadow is on another level... Very underated if you ask me.. Seeing him at electric picnic .. Gona be insane.

  • 6:20 type Prince of Darkness(1987) - John Carpenter in YouTube search

  • So, 2 years, and 145 comments, and no one mentions this is Shawn Phillips' music and vocals throughout this piece?!

  • @moneypenny6 yeah, you're the first one to be that pretentious.Although I think the drums are from David Axelrod.

  • 2:50 is where it happens

  • THIS SHIT IS FUCKIN ART

  • This is a Sound of SKATE.!!!

  • great tune to listen wen tripping

  • 7:03 - I've been faithfully listening to this album for about 6 years now and this is the first time I've noticed Shadow sampled Twin Peaks, my favorite tv show ever! God this album is amazing, there really is something new to be discovered with every listen on this one, one of the best albums of all-time!

  • such lamping music.

  • Comment removed

  • what the fuck is the voice he's sampling from 6:20 to 7:00 ?!

i want to make a crazy short film with just that last part as the soundtrack. so. fucking. insane.

  • @cecisota12 it's "not a dream" by john carpenter

  • @cecisota12 nucleus alan parson project

  • @cecisota12 It's a sample from the film Prince of Darkness by John Carpenter.

  • this song reminds me of the old days. when everything used to be quite peaceful.

but now a days everyone is trying to kill each other for stupid reasons.

  • This tune says it all. Brilliant!!

  • seriously can someone answer me that question why this song reminds me of Hey Arnold? hahahah its bothering me soooo much

  • @rocky525 Haha, I totally agree. Don't know why though... :P

  • whats the sample???

  • This tune is so beyond its time.

  • @donspew SOOO beyond its time and place - it always comes back to me like a boomerang sent out into the horizon and comin back full round man - its almost rather strange how mystical this is - some random dj from LA and he's transcending time quite unlike fellow hip-hop artists - who is dj shadow? i dont even want to know. its the definition of a true artist. i've been tempted to look up an interview with him and I was just like in my mind like don't even think about doing something like that

  • Comment removed

  • why does this song remind me of hey arnold?

  • @rocky525 That is creepy! I seriously thought that to myself a cuple days ago, lol. IDK why either.

  • @rocky525 LOL I just posted the same comment on the same song different poster though

  • @rocky525 Reminds me more of Twin Peaks...

  • @mynameisnotalfredo AHAHAH. Oh god, that ending..

  • @rocky525 Cos it's from 1996?

  • @rocky525 Because Hey Arnold! had those very dark and sad blues/jazz interludes, that had a great night feeling, during the moments in which Arnold would be laying in his bed, watching the night sky thinking about some bad event that had just happened. Hey Arnold! was very underrated, and that's one of the reasons.

  • @MrVesanique well said hey arnold was a very deep show an had a strong meaning to it i mean come on he would see his parents he could never remember anything about in a dream and thats how the episode would start!

  • O_O the ending is scary

  • this is chill

  • Get it out. Shout at the rooftops. This is great...this is the Beez Kneez!

  • @grendelzord will do

  • this is the sound of amazing

  • The Lounge in Heaven plays this song on heavy rotation.

  • @jaziel1 The wikipedia articles on DJ Shadow and this album are INCREDIBLE. The former talks a ton about his background, collection, methods, etc. And the latter has a track-by-track list for this album that actually documents everything sampled to make up the songs. Crazy good read. God bless, man!

  • It disappoints me to no end that it took me 14 years to discover such an unbelievable artist. I will listen to this album til my time runs out.

  • Perfect way to end this amazing album. Really changed the way I listen to music.

  • @BruisedEyeSockets That's cool.... It really is so much better than so much chart music.... This aways reminds me of NYC

  • where was I was,I here or there, when I heard this, did David pull me through or was it Carl or the Black Madonna?

  • For those of you curious, that creepy end sample with the guy talking about "you are receiving this broadcast..." is from John Carpenter's movie "Prince Of Darkness". Classic horror movie he did in the 80's. Another random bit of audio on this album that worked extremely well.

  • I really wish since Dj Hero put songs by Dj Shadow, that they would've chosen this one. Not for that up beat party tempo but for that nice chiill song.

  • Music from an artist that didnt sell his soul.

  • Bad Ass DJ !!

  • this song is amazing, so relaxing, could listen to it all day, everyday :')

  • c'era già

  • d shadow > sex

  • dj shadow > sex

  • Probably my favorite DJ Shadow track thus far. I like the jazzy feel.

  • my favorite song on the album.

  • im really curious how a well thought our rap would lay with this beat... not because i think it needs words, but because i think any rap song on this earth, can me raised to a new level with one of these beats.......

  • this is off the hook

  • Amen

  • just put this on and lay down, and come back 20 years later cause you're gonna wanna lay there at peace with this on repeat forever.

  • @SolDiosOrbit

  • It is Happening Again!!!!!

  • Amazingly captivating...the kind of song you dare not stop in the middle of it!

  • Elegant, nice way of putting it imo.

  • this song is kinky !

  • its crazy how people can creat this kind of music and make you go away for a while...this is sick

  • good question........as I dont know why shadow sampled it.

It sounds creepy though, maybe he was just going for a scary type of vibe!

  • Mongrel meets his maker and organ donor are pretty creepy songs too

  • For some reason I love listening to this after sex.

  • ya. Dj Krush. Nujabes.

  • does anyone know any artists similar to dj shadow

  • yes u can try Bonobo theyr nice :)

  • this is a fucken sick song. when the drums n rest of the beat kick in it makes for a sick instrumental to freestyle over. try it out.

  • dude each time i listen to this song and that saxophone comes in, a rush of tingles goes from my head to down to my arms and lower back.... and i've played the song 4 different times always at the same part AMAZING

  • Right at the end before the twin peaks "its happening again" sample, theirs that spooky prince of darkness sample "transmitting 1-9-9"...

    Brilliant

  • but what did all that mean tho? i kinda didnt get it... haha can u explain the whole thing to me?

  • The main sax/bass line melody is from a heath brothers record. The intro sound EFX are from an old alan parsons record.

The rest is really kinda hard to pinpoint.

    Shadow is a genius!

  • Call me a pussy.

I actually teared a bit listening to this.

You know its a good song when it makes you cry and reminesse

  • This pic was the cover of his 1996 debut, Endtroduction.

  • No song gets me thinking more. So many feelings...

  • Such a heartbreaker. 1995 was a fine, sweet summer.

  • Its nice to see a page on this godforsaken youtube where everyone is united over one thing: a beautiful song.

Its kinda restored my faith a bit.

Beautiful song, but it reminds me of the girl that broke my heart.

    For you veronica...

  • @XxChannel57xX Why do you go to the places with the posers then?

  • amazing

  • I listened to this song over and over again before I had to put my dog down last year. It's the only song worthy of such a great friend in my life. I will always think of Docker when I hear it.

  • simply an amazing tune, you'd have to feel this song to create this song and he must have been in some kinda super natural love buzz because this song is simply that, incredible is the word.

  • Any guys there speaking Italian? Because at 03:17 moment someone sings something like "Io cherco//essi amore..." and I loose track of those lyrics, yet that is Italian

  • hi, i',m italian.

the singing is from michele zarrillo, a quite famous italian singer.

it says: "c'era già, quest'amore che viviamo, tanto tempo fa, c'era già.." -> "there already was, this love we're living in, long time ago"

i can't get the rest, but if you need it i'll look for it.

in many italian music blogs people are amazed by this, dj shadow knowing michele zarrillo..
