  • they need a lane for that ambulance

  • That's VERY cool of you to make these videos!!!............It gets me out of my house for a while when I can't actually get out!!

  • @guitars71 Thanks, glad you enjoy them!

  • Boston may look bigger than Seattle, but Seattle is more scenic.I love Seattle because it's my US favorite city, and I wouldn't switch it for Boston.Seattle has Mt Rainier,Space Needle,Olympic mountains and Mt Baker can also be seen from some parts of the city on a very clear summer day.although Mt Rainier is about 2 hours drive away from Seattle,it appears that the volcano is in Seattle because it rises majestically above the city's skyline on a very clear summer day.I don't know Boston at all.

  • @nostalgiamelancolia1

    Boston is bigger than Seattle. Boston: city = 617,594, MSA = 4,552,402, CSA = 7,559,060; Seattle: city = 608,660, MSA = 3,439,809, CSA = 4,199,312

  • @LCCDrummer I know Boston is more populous and larger by square miles than Seattle, but you didn't get the meaning.I said Seattle is more scenic than Boston because of the mountains seen from the city while the scenery and landscape around Boston is rather flat with no tall mountains like Seattle.

  • @nostalgiamelancolia1

Oh I got the meaning. I'm just saying that Boston not only looks bigger but is bigger.

  • Such a nice video, it showed me something I didn't know.

I moved to beantown 2 years ago and I currently live in Braintree and every morning I take my wife to Chelsea for her class and then drive to Cambridge to work. I didn't know that Tobin Bridge (US-1) going north bound is free of Toll. So I always take I-93 and get off at Everett (Exit 29) and go to Chelsea via Revere Beach pkwy. I will take this route on your video starting next monday :)

  • @4ever4tube Thank you, I'm glad I could help, lol! The northbound tolls were taken out years ago

  • what kind of road work were they doing on that bridge?

  • The road is new when you realize it's historic.

  • FreewayJim,

Awesome music! Also, I appreciate your support of the local teams! (1:47)

  • @Railfan2103 Thanks

  • LOL at "Ambulance coming up wicked fast from behind." I am from Southern NH and say wicked all the time so that was great.

  • @LCCDrummer I'm a NH native so I know the lingo up there :)

  • i work under the tobin. my first day on the job i was hit in the head by a shoe. somine had jumped and their shoe hit me right in the head.

  • @danthomastherocker1 -I'm sure that wasn't pleasant but is a funny story, thanks.

  • Isn't it illegal to follow an ambulance?!?

  • Great video!

I must say, it wouldn't be 100% authentic without some clown in an Accord (3:26) passing you on the right on the loop ramp, cutting you off without a legally safe distance to get in front of your car, then slamming their brakes on while tailgating the car that had been ahead of you.

This would help as a driver training video!

  • @MattTrakker Thanks, That's Boston for ya.

  • Watching this video makes me miss Boston a lot. :-(

  • I never got a chance to comment on this, but this really hits local for me (I believe I see my apartment complex in this video). It's pretty damn awesome breezin' the Expressway without the gas and the effort and the speeding ticket (if only they'd multiply the speed limits by 4...). Great job.

  • you get on the Dan Ryan expressway (I-90-94) in Chicago and at night at any time, there is a traffic jam, Where I-57 and I-94 merge together on rthe southside of Chgo, its horrible at any time of the night and the weekends are very very horrible/ the best way to get around Chicago is get on I-294 (Tri State Tollway) and everybody is doing 80mph or faster but the speed limit is 55mph!!

  • the wind turbine at roughly 1:44 looks so demented at how fast it is going

  • I like every video you have put out Jim and It's nice to see some other parts of the country that I generally don't get to see because of my daily grind. BTW, Roxbury is where my favorite music group New Edition grew up and the next Boston video you do, you have to put in at least one New Edition song in it.

  • @cfoster81 Thank you, but New Edition isn't going to happen, sorry.

  • Thanks Jim. Moving to the area from NW Arkansas, in a couple months for work. Just trying to get the lay of the land. Lots of good driving vids on YT but yours so far are the only ones I've seen that say what stuff is. Kinda helps me follow on a map, learn my way around. (Boston's not the first big metro I'll have lived in (DC, DFW, Hampton Roads, Nashville) so hopefully I'll do ok with the driving part)

  • @multiplecats -Glad to hear my videos have been helpful to you, good luck with your move.

If you can handle DC driving you can handle Boston :)

  • "Ambulance Coming Up Wicked Fast From Behind" - that gave me a chuckle. Nice to see you know your Massachusetts terminology.

  • I am from Malaysia, now i have general view about how United States roads look like. Thanks

  • @TimeGalaxy: Oh my! please do not judge the rest of America's roads by what you see in Boston.

  • BRAVO JIM! Great timing with music. Especially going through the Downtown tunnel.

  • havnt seen it so green recently at beginning since winter

  • i love boston!

  • my grandpa was born in chelsea!!

  • Mine was born in Peabody.

  • is that in the boston area?

  • although the tunnels obstruct the view...thw city skyline looked AMAZING....man, thanks for posting this!

  • the bridges in hagerstown, md are much worse than these freeways in boston

  • In New-Brunswick Canada the roads are extremely horrible! There like 10 time worse that the roads in this video.

  • how many toybota Prius did you count? lol

  • Did I see a windmiil @1:46?

Some of the freeways built in the 50s have too many sharpe curves for the speeds!

Like parts of I 20, here in Atlanta.

    Enjoy the vidios!

  • Yes you did see a windmill at 1:16

  • 1:45 The windmill.

  • I love these videos of yours...but not the Boston sports teams. No offense meant. :)

  • Awesome in HD! You think they'll ever fix the road surface in the tunnel? I remember it being like that on your last trip.

  • Thank you!

Either the builder is incompetent or they made it a bit rough on purpose to keep the speeds down in the tunnel.

I would have thought they'd lay down a concrete surface but what do I know?

  • 1:34 - Is that the "gas tank" that is often referred to in Boston traffic reports?

  • I think so.

  • Ravenel Bridge in Charleston looks a lot like the cable bridge in this video.

  • awesome .. i did not realize how massive that tunnel was . thanks for the hd on this one jim ..

  • FJ, what camcorder do you use?

  • I use a Sony HDR-HC9 Camcorder (HD)

  • HDR-SR11 hard disk camera. Those AVCHD files are a bear to mess with, even with a Core 2 Quad which is what I have. Supposedly i7 will fix that.

  • MiniDV is a breeze to work with, even in HD.

  • I miss my T-Bird, but I collected off the insurance and now I have an Acura Integra. :)

  • @ 3:18 is where I crashed my 97 Thunderbird back in 2007. Got cut off and slammed the jersey barrier head on. The moron who cut me off didn't even stop!! That's a really sharp turn.

  • Bad ass song, bad ass vid,,, 5 stars!!!!!

  • wow that was pretty awesome, Boston is such a beautiful city and probably the best sports town in America pretty much every year every Boston team makes the playoffs

  • 2:28 The tunnel goes PERFECT with the "Bridge" of the song. Was that intentional?

  • Yes, although I had to manipulate the speed before and through the tunnel just a little bit to make it work.

  • That's awesome. What editor do you use?

  • Apple Final Cut Express 4.

  • You win. I'm using Premiere Elements 7. I have an HD camera but HD files are a pain to edit. They slow down the PC. Good ol' SD works just fine for me.

  • The Apple software is so easy to use it's amazing.

  • The EASIEST editor on PC is Pinnacle Studio. That's what I learned on. The most powerful is Adobe Premiere... IMHO of course.

  • The most powerful is Final Cut Pro

  • Nice video, Jim.

    Very narrow freeways up there.

  • Thanks,

So narrow in fact on I-93 north of the city they'll let you drive in the breakdown lane during rush hour. Most of the system was built in the late 50's to mid 60's and it shows.

  • No problem.

Wow! You know they're doing that on 400, too -- at least for the MARTA buses. It's a bit much to have folks merging and they have to give way to the buses on the shoulder, as well as folks already on the freeway.

But in Boston's situation, I can understand it.

  • I saw this about 2 months ago when I went up there for a trip. Got pissed off when people passed me in the emergency lane.

  • Awesome video of Beantown! :) I have a question: what kind of car do you take out on your trips? Thanks !!! 5/5 for me!

  • Thanks, on this trip I drove my wife's Acura MDX, I drive my Acura TL around town and on short trips.

  • Awesome!!! I love Acuras!! thanks for answering my question! :)

  • Been there, drove that.

  • Awesome.

Boston has a rather small freeway network considering the size of the metropolitan area. They don't have wide roads either.

  • Thanks.

There are quite a few cancelled freeways in the Boston area, had they been built it would be quite different. Yeah they aren't that wide either. Property up there is ridiculously expensive.
