I love this film. True, it's not a complete depiction of early Aztec/Mayan way of life, but the language, costumes, film location, cast, and plot are pretty awesome.
This is A great movie,but the true is that after this people seem Mayas like some kind of sick tribe, they were more spiritual, they were something better than this... they should pick up a Real mayan history as "Sac-Nicte, or Xibalba and make it as a movie and the world would know about real Mayan history! as a Mayan decedent I dont feel like my people would identify themselves with this movie!

I loved the movie but Jonathon Brewer made the movie for me. I think he should have played the main role. I thought he was just adorable!!!! Rudy Youngblood was good but looked too young for that part, I thought.

Mel Gibson's an asshole, but I have to give him his props because this movie is incredible! The first time i watched this was in the cinema with two friends. The only info we had beforehand was that it was about an ancient maya civilisation and the men were very handsome. But none of us were able to keep facing the screen because of the amount of brutal violence. But still it is one of the best movies i ever attempted to watch (but i know now that it is not all that accurate after visiting la ruta maya myself).
The evil rogue tribe depicted in this movie is a great metaphor for international bankers that print paper money ..tell us via sold out politicians we are in debt to them..control federal reserve.. enslave and utilize the middle and poor class for slavery and sacrifice where they are the only ones that reap any quality of life. Mel Gibson tells it the way it is...get rid of the international banker terrorists AKA satanic synagogue tribe that is driving the planet into disparity and misery.
Not historically accurate at all, but still a great study in what happens when civilized societies run into hunter-gatherers. Spoiler alert; civilized =/= decent.

I had the great opportunity to visit both Chit zen Itza and Tulum and found them to be aww inspiring. I hope that modern day archaeology can continue to un earth these masterpieces!

When you look at the big picture human beings, even taking into account our immense technological leaps during the last 10 000 years, are still large mammals. Technology allows us to fulfill our basic needs - (food, shelter, safety, love, health etc) easier. But it does not remove these very needs. I see no reason to assume that in the near future technology will make us anything more than large mammal with more efficient tools.

@Silkrat It seems to me that you largely underestimate the significance of scientific and technological progress on changing our environment. Learning and exploring with a larger brain is what got us from living in caves to the way we are today. Our environment changes, so do we. Humans used to believe that the Earth was flat, that floods, diseases are caused by gods and demons. Human behavior is directly related to the environment, which is always subject to change.

And I can't accept the idea of perfection when it come to human society, for human knowledge is always expanding. I had the great opportunity to visit both Chit zen Itza and Tulum and found them to be aww inspiring. I hope that modern day archaeology can continue to un earth these masterpieces!

@amoola007 -Well here in Hawaii we eat "raw fish" which is quite good,not 'fishy' at all,it's great.Being used to it I tried raw meat,not a bloody affair at all. The fillet mignon,is ground up with spices and and egg.Then chilled,served with capers,raw onion,with melba toast,or on buttered pumpernickel.It is also great.
