I have a Toshiba Thrive that runs this in 1280x800 and does a better job than the iPlod and that's only Tegra 2! My brother has the iPad and I have the prime. We compared riptide on both, and graphics and everything was just way better and smoother on the transformer prime.
As an owner of both (iPad 2 and Transformer TF101, not Prime) I used my iPad for browsing news sites, reading books, and watching Netflix. I used my Transformer for remote desktopping (for various reasons), listening to Grooveshark, playing games (SNES, NES, N64 roms) and browsing/gaming/Netflix on my TV.
When I would take one with me, it was always the Tansformer. When I wanted to show off a tablet, it was the iPad. However with ICS on my TF, it has drained all my iPad 2 use.

For christmas, my dad was going to get me an ipad 2, but I told him to get me an asus transformer (1st gen, not the new one) with android instead. I haven't regret it since. You know the ipad sucks when you chose the 1st gen asus over the ipad 2. Of course Ipad can't compete with asus transformer 2nd gen. You can't even ague anything; numbers speak for themselves.

Most of the people buy a tablet for browsing internet which is way too much smoother on ipad 2 compared to any other android tablet including prime. ipad 2 has the fastest GPU..it's 4 core version is even used in handheld psp..so ipad 2 can outperform prime anytime..and u r running an enhanced version of game on the prime whereas standard version on ipad 2..

Also don't even bring up design, apple was not the first to release a slate style device, apart from that the asus has a different aspect ratio(more of a rectangle while the ipad is more of a square), how else do you expect other manufactures to design tablets? trapezoid shape? oval shaped?

@1499Erick I've ipad 2 and used transformer prime for a while but returned it back..it could not load even simple websites and pinch to zoom was painful..ipad 2 browser is way too snappy compared to shitty browser on prime..I am fan of android os but tegra 3 is not as much sophisticated as A5 in ipad 2. You can check the GL 1 benchmark of ipad 2 and prime..ipad 2 score is almost double the prime.
@FullM3tal7ack3t Both cpu use A9 cortex architecture and having one of them overclocked to 1.3 GHz does not necessary mean it is faster than other..infact ipad cpu runs on 800 MHz on average and still outperforms prime..having quad core does improve battery life, multi threading..but most of the work like webpage rendering, games and browsing multimedia requires a better GPU power where ipad 2 wins..ipad 2 GPU score is almost double the shitty gpu used in tegra 3..

@shivkalra1 The only time the iPad 2 beats the Kal-El is if the benchmarking program isnt optimized for quad core/ICS yet. Other than that, Nvidia/Android bashes the iPad. Just accept the fact that the TF Prime is a far better tablet and move on. Graphics is Nvidias thing you cant beat them there. With that awesome screen, they can upgrade the camera from a lousy 8mp 1080p lighted CMOS to a 0.7mp grainy camera. They could then remove usb and hdmi connectivity and lose the sd card expansion.

@TVjoakim You want to know what is good about the iPad 2. Its A5 processor is very much superior to Tegra 2 graphic wise, and is ALMOST as good as the Tegra 3. It doesn't really take down Tegra 3 in graphic performance, as we all can see in this video, but it's damn close. Keep in mind that iPad 2 soon is 1 year old. The next iPad will be a great boost in performance and will probably smash Tegra 3.

@TVjoakim Apple under clocked the A5 in the 4S because of the battery time. Which is a very fair sacrifice, don't you think? I'd much rather have a phone that lasts through the day than one that is a tech monster. Besides, SG S2 does show better specs, but what everyone seems to forget is that the hardware combined with software is what counts. If you have crappy software but awesome hardware, you're still gonna have a crappy device overall. iOS is not as hardware demanding as Android.

Android 4.1 it is optimized for the tegra 3, there you have your must on devics. problem solved, android is cheaper, most devices have better hardware and the hardware is combined with the software, plus you dont have to jailbrake it to have fun with it. you can customize it as you want it and not just how apple wants it to be.
@TVjoakim Well, we had to wait a long time for Android not to be a demanding software. iOS never was, and that's why Apple got it right from the beginning. They create their own hardware and software, and match them perfectly together. As for jail breaking. I jailbroke my iPhone 4S a couple of months ago, and it is fun at the beginning, but then I just wanted to go back to my super responsive and fast 4S without jailbreak, so that's what I did. Everyone don't want those customization options.

@TVjoakim Maybe that is because you're only using Android devices? If you ask a person who has experience with both iPhones and Android phones, you will get a totally different answer. The HTC Sensation for example. It's so laggy and slow compared to the iPhone 4S, and both have got a dual core processor. Besides, my mom's got the original Desire and it is laggy. It's hard to see if you've only used Android, but it isn't as fluid as the iOS experience :)

@oOJakkeOo i have an iPad 2 and many of my friends have iPhone, so yes i have tried it, I like my transformer prime alot better then iPad cuz it has better screen, you dont need itunes to do anything on it, its better at games, comes with a keyboard, better OS, you can get more memory from a micro sd card, you can run different types of video formats instead of just mp4 with the right resolution. And the prime is cheaper.
@TVjoakim We both know that iPad 3 is coming soon with a double screen res. You can buy an iPad now days without using iTunes. It's slightly better at games because it's got very new hardware, compared to the one year old iPad 2. The OS is personal preference. I agree about the SD card. Download Gplayer or something on the iPad and you can watch whatever format you want on that too. What? It's much more expensive than the iPad 2.
I really don't like the Ipad2 a whole lot(well ios actually). But I do like tech and specs. And the GPU in the Ipad 2 is far superior to the Tegra 3.
Nvidia knows GPU's, we all know that. But the fact of the matter is that the weakness of Tegra 2 and 3 is the GPU. The Tegra 3 benchmarks are pretty much on par with the Mali400@267Mhz.
It doesn't even hit 60fps in Nenamark 2(on 4.0.3), ICS and OC doesn't seem to help the GPU performance either(which is no suprise really)

Last I checked the prime could play 1080p 40mb/s video files while the ipad 2 can't.Care to explain how the ipad's gpu is better here? Have even seen the graphical improvement to riptide gp on the prime in this video? If you are basing your opinion on benchmarks note that the programs used to test the tegra 3 are not optimized to use all five cores.
@nico53laval Dual core gen I believe its the Exynos 5250 of A15 architecture. At least thats the most promising at the moment. There's also the OMAP 5 series that should bring some fight with it as well. Im not sure about the so called "A6" SoC as there arent solid details about it yet.
Samsungs hardware has always been the most promising to me. They achieved that "iPhone-like" smoothness and fluidity with the GS2 on Exynos 4 and their displays are by far some of the best in the world.
@XDKX101 I was talking about the CPUs in the S2 and Note they're the best of their generation and will still be able to hold their own against Tegra 3 when they'll be on final version of ICS, in wait for the S3 which will blow every phone and tablet in terms of performance :D But I will have to wait for the Note 2 since i won't be able to downgrade in size :/
@nico53laval Yeah thats true although Tegra 3 will still be dominant when it hits smartphones. ICS is the real game changer here; if properly optimized, it will make the S2 or the Note beast. You have no idea how much of a crazy performance gain I got when I updated my Nexus S to ICS lol. Love the forced hardware acceleration; makes the UI butter smooth even with live wallpapers, imagine what it will give a phone like the S2. Of course the S3 will dominate lol hopefully Sammy wont disappoint.
@shivkalra1 those benchmarks aren't optimized for five cored processors mate. the prime has for main cores and an extra back up processor. those benchmarks are really only testing two of the five cores hence the average benchmarks. besides the prime has a better screen and camera than the ipad 2 along with more functionality. the addition of the keyboard dock just puts the ipad 2 in its grave.
@shivkalra1 and what you need to understand is that iOS has a lot less background processes, if any at all, and you can't run multiple apps, and NO FLASH, what makes you think that these things will change ?, apple's own quad core is far from done... and i still dont think itll keep up to tegra 3, again you cant compare ipad 2 and prime, because of the different OS, and most benchmarks use only 2 cores from the prime, where it still gets better performance.. except the inet browser

@shivkalra1 The A5 GPU is not more powerful than Tegra 3's Geforce ULP. It runs at a lower resolution in 4:3 aspect ratio which makes it seem 10-20% faster when it just isn't, it's just pushing fewer pixels per second. Heavy websites don't exist on Apple devices because your experience is always within a walled garden. GPU isn't everything too, having 5 cores at your disposal makes a huge difference too.
@zembryoz get your facts straight, GL benchmarks are calculated on same resolutions and A5 GPU wins clearly. I've experience with both the tablets and even websites like google images works way way smoother on ipad 2 than compared to transfomer prime.
@shivkalra1 Try again. The same resolution doesn't matter and forcing the prime down to a lower res SLOWS IT DOWN. These are LCD displays, anything outside of native resolution and part of the GPU has waste clock cycles on scaling the window to the screen. The A5's PowerVR is not as powerful as Tegra 2 in terms of raw triangle speed and nowhere near the shader processing capability of the Tegra 3. Ye Gods, you're such a fanboy. I know that above tests may be optimized for ios but I'm sure IPAD 2 scores equal not less than TEGRA 3 but considering that IPAD 2 is almost 1year older than TEGRA 3, IPAD 2 is still way ahead.
@shivkalra1 Egypt is the equivalent of running something like 3Dmark2001. It's neither relevant, nor appropriate when compared with the kind of games which really push hardware. PowerVR's SGX is a tile rendering GPU and so scenes, like egypt, which are shader light and texture centric will always run faster on a tile rendering GPU. Egypt's scenes are nothing like real games like Shadowgun where Tegra 3 wins and even Tegra 2 beats the SGX. Geforce ULP is more powerful than SGX.

As an owner of both (iPad 2 and Transformer TF101, not Prime) I used my iPad for browsing news sites, reading books, and watching Netflix. I used my Transformer for remote desktopping (for various reasons), listening to Grooveshark, playing games (SNES, NES, N64 roms) and browsing/gaming/Netflix on my TV.
When I would take one with me, it was always the Tansformer. When I wanted to show off a tablet, it was the iPad. However with ICS on my TF, it has drained all my iPad 2 use.

@TVjoakim You want to know what is good about the iPad 2. Its A5 processor is very much superior to Tegra 2 graphic wise, and is ALMOST as good as the Tegra 3. It doesn't really take down Tegra 3 in graphic performance, as we all can see in this video, but it's damn close. Keep in mind that iPad 2 soon is 1 year old. The next iPad will be a great boost in performance and will probably smash Tegra 3.

@oOJakkeOo since apple's A5 chip is old and you think the next is going to awesome, how come that they put a A5 chip in the iPhone 4s plus that it is only 800mhz and 2 cores on the one in iphone 4s. it means that the chip in samsung galaxy s2 (tegra 2) is better and it is something about 1 and a half years old... just saying that apple is not famous for having the best hardware, and is not as good people think it is.

@TVjoakim Apple under clocked the A5 in the 4S because of the battery time. Which is a very fair sacrifice, don't you think? I'd much rather have a phone that lasts through the day than one that is a tech monster. Besides, SG S2 does show better specs, but what everyone seems to forget is that the hardware combined with software is what counts. If you have crappy software but awesome hardware, you're still gonna have a crappy device overall. iOS is not as hardware demanding as Android.

Android 4.1 it is optimized for the tegra 3, there you have your must on devics. problem solved, android is cheaper, most devices have better hardware and the hardware is combined with the software, plus you dont have to jailbrake it to have fun with it. you can customize it as you want it and not just how apple wants it to be.

@TVjoakim Well, we had to wait a long time for Android not to be a demanding software. iOS never was, and that's why Apple got it right from the beginning. They create their own hardware and software, and match them perfectly together. As for jail breaking. I jailbroke my iPhone 4S a couple of months ago, and it is fun at the beginning, but then I just wanted to go back to my super responsive and fast 4S without jailbreak, so that's what I did. Everyone don't want those customization options.

@oOJakkeOo Android has never been that much hardware demanding. The thing with apple is that if there it takes time to open an app, they just put a fancy animation on it, problem solved. Apple does not creat their own hardware, they make ios to the hardware, not the other way. and since you dont want the option to customize your phone its cuz you have become an apple zombi :)

@TVjoakim Maybe that is because you're only using Android devices? If you ask a person who has experience with both iPhones and Android phones, you will get a totally different answer. The HTC Sensation for example. It's so laggy and slow compared to the iPhone 4S, and both have got a dual core processor. Besides, my mom's got the original Desire and it is laggy. It's hard to see if you've only used Android, but it isn't as fluid as the iOS experience :)

@oOJakkeOo i have an iPad 2 and many of my friends have iPhone, so yes i have tried it, I like my transformer prime alot better then iPad cuz it has better screen, you dont need itunes to do anything on it, its better at games, comes with a keyboard, better OS, you can get more memory from a micro sd card, you can run different types of video formats instead of just mp4 with the right resolution. And the prime is cheaper.

@TVjoakim We both know that iPad 3 is coming soon with a double screen res. You can buy an iPad now days without using iTunes. It's slightly better at games because it's got very new hardware, compared to the one year old iPad 2. The OS is personal preference. I agree about the SD card. Download Gplayer or something on the iPad and you can watch whatever format you want on that too. What? It's much more expensive than the iPad 2.

I really don't like the Ipad2 a whole lot(well ios actually). But I do like tech and specs. And the GPU in the Ipad 2 is far superior to the Tegra 3.
Nvidia knows GPU's, we all know that. But the fact of the matter is that the weakness of Tegra 2 and 3 is the GPU. The Tegra 3 benchmarks are pretty much on par with the Mali400@267Mhz.
It doesn't even hit 60fps in Nenamark 2(on 4.0.3), ICS and OC doesn't seem to help the GPU performance either(which is no suprise really)

Last I checked the prime could play 1080p 40mb/s video files while the ipad 2 can't.Care to explain how the ipad's gpu is better here? Have even seen the graphical improvement to riptide gp on the prime in this video? If you are basing your opinion on benchmarks note that the programs used to test the tegra 3 are not optimized to use all five cores.

@nico53laval Dual core gen I believe its the Exynos 5250 of A15 architecture. At least thats the most promising at the moment. There's also the OMAP 5 series that should bring some fight with it as well. Im not sure about the so called "A6" SoC as there arent solid details about it yet.
Samsungs hardware has always been the most promising to me. They achieved that "iPhone-like" smoothness and fluidity with the GS2 on Exynos 4 and their displays are by far some of the best in the world.

@XDKX101 I was talking about the CPUs in the S2 and Note they're the best of their generation and will still be able to hold their own against Tegra 3 when they'll be on final version of ICS, in wait for the S3 which will blow every phone and tablet in terms of performance :D But I will have to wait for the Note 2 since i won't be able to downgrade in size :/

@nico53laval Yeah thats true although Tegra 3 will still be dominant when it hits smartphones. ICS is the real game changer here; if properly optimized, it will make the S2 or the Note beast. You have no idea how much of a crazy performance gain I got when I updated my Nexus S to ICS lol. Love the forced hardware acceleration; makes the UI butter smooth even with live wallpapers, imagine what it will give a phone like the S2. Of course the S3 will dominate lol hopefully Sammy wont disappoint.

@shivkalra1 those benchmarks aren't optimized for five cored processors mate. the prime has for main cores and an extra back up processor. those benchmarks are really only testing two of the five cores hence the average benchmarks. besides the prime has a better screen and camera than the ipad 2 along with more functionality. the addition of the keyboard dock just puts the ipad 2 in its grave.

@shivkalra1 and what you need to understand is that iOS has a lot less background processes, if any at all, and you can't run multiple apps, and NO FLASH, what makes you think that these things will change ?, apple's own quad core is far from done... and i still dont think itll keep up to tegra 3, again you cant compare ipad 2 and prime, because of the different OS, and most benchmarks use only 2 cores from the prime, where it still gets better performance.. except the inet browser

in addition, the ipad2 has a lower res. screen, so basically, less gpu is required

@shivkalra1 The transformer prime is running flash, widgets and a shitload of stuff while browsing while the ipad 2 is just browsing what do you expect? Also the tf prime has a lower wifi range because of its aluminium back. You should try browsing on the prime again with a web browser.

@shivkalra1 The A5 GPU is not more powerful than Tegra 3's Geforce ULP. It runs at a lower resolution in 4:3 aspect ratio which makes it seem 10-20% faster when it just isn't, it's just pushing fewer pixels per second. Heavy websites don't exist on Apple devices because your experience is always within a walled garden. GPU isn't everything too, having 5 cores at your disposal makes a huge difference too.

@shivkalra1 Try again. The same resolution doesn't matter and forcing the prime down to a lower res SLOWS IT DOWN. These are LCD displays, anything outside of native resolution and part of the GPU has waste clock cycles on scaling the window to the screen. The A5's PowerVR is not as powerful as Tegra 2 in terms of raw triangle speed and nowhere near the shader processing capability of the Tegra 3. Ye Gods, you're such a fanboy. I know that above tests may be optimized for ios but I'm sure IPAD 2 scores equal not less than TEGRA 3 but considering that IPAD 2 is almost 1year older than TEGRA 3, IPAD 2 is still way ahead.

@shivkalra1 Egypt is the equivalent of running something like 3Dmark2001. It's neither relevant, nor appropriate when compared with the kind of games which really push hardware. PowerVR's SGX is a tile rendering GPU and so scenes, like egypt, which are shader light and texture centric will always run faster on a tile rendering GPU. Egypt's scenes are nothing like real games like Shadowgun where Tegra 3 wins and even Tegra 2 beats the SGX. Geforce ULP is more powerful than SGX.

This is like comparing PS3 to Xbox 360..... Multiplatform games, even though the PS3 is more powerful, always always always look exactly the same and sometimes better on xbox. Its easier to develope games on iOS than it is Android to same for xbox over PS3

@dothedamnthang2 The Asus is on the right. IPad 2 is without the watersplash effect, because it cannot handle it hardware-wise. The iPad 2 is much older however, and I am not sure where Apple will go with hardware changes.
