  • LOL "Actually the window thing started out as an accident"

  • This makes me so sad he was such a sweet heart, I wish he was still alive!

  • RIP :(

  • It's Cooder!

  • I love a 'genuine' smile that spreads to the eyes and lights up one's entire face. Jim Varney has this smile. GORGEOUS. I miss him so much.

  • Oh Jim, I wish you didn't smoke so damn much or else we'd still have your Comedy genius.

  • It's so unfair that people like Jim die young but we have old crime bosses, corrupt politicians and religious psychos running around. Atleast we had him when we did and that's what counts I guess.

  • LEGEND!

  • jim varney would be 61 if he was still alive r.i.p.

  • We certainly need more Jim Varney's in the world. I can't help but crack a little grin every time the dude smiles. What a soulful and happy person.

  • I grew up watching Jim Varney's as Ernest... I remember the day he left us :(

I have so much gratitude towards Jim. Thanks for the laughs!!!

  • I Believe This Was A Video Clip Of ABC News' Good Morning America's Entertainment News Report On Jim Varney On Wednesday Morning, June 20, 1984.

  • this guy smoked 2 packs a day. sheeesh his abuse killed him

  • Did you know he was in collage at 15 and I hear he as into Shakespeare. A highly intelligent man not afraid to show his "common roots" . a gentle soul and a good actor. all so rare in this day and age.

  • His smile is infectious!

  • he died at 50 how is that young lol and plus if he was still alive today he would hav been 62

  • @Treylogan218BR

Too young for Jim!!! He should have been around for much much longer...but the Good Lord decided to have his Angel return to Heaven :D

  • @Treylogan218BR 50 Is pretty damn young.

  • it seems the greater you are, the sooner you die. Justin Bieber will live till at-least 100!

  • @codern i doubt that mayb he will die n a drive by shooting

  • he died too young...sucks

  • 3:32 wtf happens to the video

  • miss you jim!

  • His smile reminds me a lot of Patrick Swayze. RIP to both of them

  • if jim varney had a mole on his cheek, he would look exactly like robert deniro

  • i like how his body stays there after the marry-go-round comes back around *lol*

  • Almost can't recognize him without the hat and vest. He looks so much younger without them. His commercials were definitely worth the watch.

  • It's hard to recognize him without the hat and vest. He looks so much younger without them. I miss him.

  • He was sooooooo gorgeous XD

  • LOL his smile is great.

  • Jim Varney will always be my favourite actor. I bet he's in heaven right now, entertaining God!

  • Wow, I thought his Ernest voice was his actual voice, but slightly exaggerated. I'll be damned.

  • What a humble looking guy. Glad for his success.

  • my childhood hero! i grew up watching all of his ernest movies in the 90's to this day i remember every line to every one of them! he was an amazing and humble person actor and singer! his smile always makes you smile every time. my whole family still refrences the "hey vern" comercials. never gets old. i miss ya buddy.

  • Ernest finally met Vern. Jim and country singer Vern Gosdin became friends and wrote songs together in Jim's latter years.

  • and jim varney was my father's cosin and he was cherokee paint clan

  • @runingblackbear My uncle is a Gladden paint can. Faced!

  • i polled that window trick on him when i was 7 at his trailer when he was baby setting us kids in 1962 in tenn thats how he got that window trick

  • Jim Varney would frequent this Nashville Restraunt/Bar where I worked. The barmaids said he bugged them because he would talk incessantly. I think he was a great person though. Just a very lonely guy.

  • @glipzik I wouldn't have been bugged by him. He could've talked to me all day. I love to talk myself. It would've been fun to debate with him a little. Since I'm hyperactive as well and talk incessantly, too, I wonder who would've talked whose ears off first? Too bad I'll never know.

  • He just seems like such a pleasant and well-mannered dude who can't help but smile all the time. Very friendly. RIP Jim.

  • For some reason, the cap Ernest always wore had led me to think that Jim Varney was bald. When I first saw a picture of him out of character, I was quite surprised to see that he had a full head of thick, wavy hair.

  • nothin beats the good 'old VHS

  • @InDeAskY I don't think Ryan was calling Jim Varney that name...I think he was comparing Varney's genuine personality to the mediocre celebrities there are today. Thought I'd put that out there :)

  • @queenoftokyo Oh, I know;) I was just stating the fact that I've never heard anything bad about Jim. That's why I said that celebs can learn a lot from Varney's attitude. Most of them R fake & seem like they can't be bothered by fans. They forget that without fans, they wouldn't be a star. They need to wake up and start appreciating fans more. I'm Varney's biggest fan and I really don't have another celeb I look up to or like all that much. Besides, I don't want 2 hear any1 bad mouth Varney.

  • Ah, VHS...fond memories...

  • what great times those days were.....glad I experienced it

  • He seemed like he might have been the nicest guy ever. He was definitely not your douchebag celebrity with a perfectly formulated response to media questions. She asked him if he wanted to go back to stage acting ever, and he just said "Yeah, I'd like to do some more plays." I loved the Ernest movies as a kid, but I'm not that familiar with Jim Varney outside of that part of his career. He seems like one of the nicest, most genuine guys you would ever meet.

  • @Ryan9145X I've never heard the word 'douche' and Jim Varney in the same sentence. Celebs today think that because they have money, they are better than everybody else. They lord it over people less fortunate than themselves. I wish Varney was alive today. These celebs could learn a lot from Varney's attitude. I barely watch t.v. anymore and I don't even go to the movies. They suck. I watch my Ernest DVDs while drinking Mello Yellos. It might sound strange but it makes me happy.

  • To this day, Jim has one of the most magnetic smiles I've ever seen. Number 1. In any movie he's been in, no matter how big the role, he smiles and everyone else fades away. I'm completely mesmerized by that gorgeous smile. He was well spoken and didn't have that 'Look at me, I'm a star' attitude. That's what made him so lovable. When I get to heaven, that's the first thing I'll ask of him. Show me that beautiful smile. What a nice, humble guy. I miss that man terribly.

  • @InDeAskY1 Amen to that! :)

  • @milquest I know Jim's gone, God rest his soul, and he could contort his face into the weirdest looks but in my opinion, he was just about the sexiest guy I've ever seen. Partly from the looks department, partly because of his charisma and personality and because he was hilarious. It's a shame some men can't take a cue from Jim Varney. Well, he was one of a kind.

  • @InDeAskY1 I look forward to reading your erotic Jim Varney fan fiction

  • @MentosMan727 1st, that comment was uncalled 4. Get your mind out of the gutter. Have u no respect? I've never had an improper thought about Jim. 1. I have more respect 4 myself & Jim. 2. He's been gone 4 11 yrs. 3. He was 27 yrs my senior. Just cuz I think he was sexy doesn't mean anything dirty. I'm not the only 1 that thinks it. Along w/ Rev. Billy, I'm spreading the word about the 'Ernest' movies cuz moral movies like these are fast becoming extinct.

  • @InDeAskY1 Why'd your other comment get erased? Anyway, yeah, I did read it and you are correct, I am younger, but 25, not 14. My only exposure to the guy is vague memories of Ernest movies as a child and a reference on Family Guy, which is what led me here. I thought my joke was funny, didn't mean to offend anyone, especially someone who posts on youtube and ISN'T a rage filled chubby racist 13 year old kid.

    In short, sorry.

  • @MentosMan727 I removed it because I spelled a couple of words wrong. Apology accepted. I grew up with Ernest, 2. I was about 7 or 8 so I didn't see him in a dirty way. He was a playmate. It's just that some who post R 13 or so & they R very rude & disrespectful when commenting on Jim. I have no idea Y. Just cuz they didn't grow up watching him. Maybe they'd have better manners if they did. I'm almost 35 so I like 2 try 2 keep my comments clean & civil. I think the young 'uns R trying 2 B cool.

  • @InDeAskY1 I know he was homely indeed but had a beautiful smile and beautiful spirit RIP Ernest!!!!!

  • @79agp Yes, he did. That's why he was so lovable and seemed so approachable. Because of his down-to-earth attitude. A friend of Jim's said that when people came to visit him, even when he was a 'starving artist', he would offer them anything to make them comfortable. Talk about genuine southern hospitality. They don't make 'em like him any more. He wanted a child of his own so bad and it's a shame he didn't have any. The only person I know that loves kids that much is my mom.

  • @InDeAskY1 Awww! Yeah he was adorable and I loved him as a child, and I always will as an adult. This kind of talent is so rare and underrated these days it makes me sad. No they 'dont make like that no more' just like everything else. Jim Varney must have been a good soul not many grown men these days are willing to be in an acting position that glorifies kids as dingy as he was he set a positive example. Once again RIP Jim Varney! We need more of his kind!

  • @79agp Amen 2 that! I think Jim paved the way for people like Jim Carrey & Larry the Cable guy. I wonder if people C the similarities between Larry & Jim? Not the physical 1's, but Larry has a catch phrase: "Git-R-Done". Jim: "KnoWhutImean?" I like Jim's better. Larry wears a cap & he talks like a hick. Larry's is 4 show. Jim was a true southern boy. Larry does stand up. Now he does movies. They're not kid friendly & not 2 funny. That health inspector show? Eh. No plot, no morals. Just gags.

  • RIP Verne.

  • has anyone else noticed that bad things happen to good people?

maybe we should all be bad people.

  • Jim Varney had such a gorgeous smile. His eyes light up. You could tell his smile was genuine because it was full of soul. You can usually tell when someone is smiling with heart or just because they think they have to.

  • @InDeAskY1 You are absolutely right. Just seeing Jim's face makes me smile. Long live Ernest P Worrell!

  • @redgreenjr Glad to hear it! It's great hearing from the Varney fans.

  • @InDeAskY1 BEST COMMENT I'VE EVER READ IN ALL OF MY YEARS ON YOUTUBE!!!!!!!! HAILING FROM THE BAHAMAS

  • @jbsmith45 Thanks. I meant every word.

  • @InDeAskY1 what are you some kind of fag or something ya fag!

  • @TheBestGuitarSoloEVR I'm a female. Jim's a male. You do the math, if you can. FYI: a 'fag' is a cigarrette and I don't smoke. You must have majored in English, what with that grammatically correct sentence :/ Quit trolling. If you don't like my comments or Jim Varney's site, MOVE ON!!!

  • @InDeAskY1 fag!

  • When i was a kid i watched his movies, lmao. he was funny whithout the cursing and dirty languange they are using today. R.I.P Jim

  • KnowWhutIMean? R.I.P. Jim Varney

  • @ScotlandMaleGlasgow Are you saying that Jim Varney was a peedo? You can't be serious. If he was still alive, I'd date him and we're 27 years apart. Age is a number.

  • I still can' t believe Jim Varney's gone. I was only 23 when he passed. I wished I could have met him. Even though he played some crazy characters, Jim had a super high IQ. Pure genius all around, Ernest. KnowWhutIMean? You're always missed.

  • @InDeAskY1 I don't blame you he was good in Toy Story and Ernest Saves Christmas and a lot more I am 19 now I loved Jim Varney. Why are people calling you fag that means cigarette and Faggot means bundle of sticks.

I reviewed Ernest Saves Christmas on my Youtube Channel if you would like to see it

  • @fishhand360 Thanks. You know, I don't know why I would be a 'fag'. I'm a woman, Jim's a man and I'm not the only female to find him attractive. How can that be a fag? My guess is that the person who so rudely commented was a jealous guy who just wants attention and to start some kind of confrontation. I try to ignore the trolls. Jim was sexy and I'm sticking to my statement.

  • No doubt about it, Jim's mannerisms and natural aesthetic are what made the Ernest character so prolific and lovable

    =3

  • Jim brings a warm smile to all those who watch him at work.

    I miss him.

  • Dude has got such a nice smile and seems like such a friendly person. RIP Jim.

  • How can anyone hate this video - It shows the softer & intelligent side of Jim (Ernest)

  • Wow. What a bright smile he had. His death was such a shame. His best movies were still ahead of him.

  • ONE OF THE GREATEST

  • he died????? i didn't know that waaaaaa i love Ernest ahhh for real thats sad i never knew he died when did he die?

  • this was the magic my childhood was made of. it will never fade.

  • @KaLeLMvZ They say the good die young. And it was definitely true in Jim's case.

  • Jim died way too young. He was definitely a comic genius. I never saw him in a movie or a commercial where he didn't make me laugh. And it seems so odd in this interview for him to be just conversing like an ordinary person. R.I.P. Jim. I imagine you've got the Lord laughing up there in heaven too.

  • I work for this man, Jim Varney had a brother and his is Sergeant Major Keifer

  • Just remember this guy! good times!

  • six people here miss jim varney

  • Earnest or Jed, Jim always made me smile. God bless and thank you. :)

    Cheers.

  • Alex Van Halen's twin brother.

  • he seemed like a very thoughtful person.....RIP jim

  • RIP Jim Varney...there will never be another Ernest P Worrell. His films and commercials are amazing and will go down in history. We miss you Jim!

  • The only flaw with Toy Story 3 was no Jim Varney voicing Slinky but the guy who did do him was spot on and I'm sure if there's a heaven Varney was smiling down.

  • @CrazyJustin2006 The guy who played Slinky was comedian Blake Clark.

  • He will be missed but definately not forgotton.

  • i only found about him 1 day ago ..and already i can say that won't be another like him..started watching all the ernest movies Jim rocks

  • She had some really good questions. It was very interesting to hear his answers. We miss ya pal.

  • Not all good things can last forever. I think thats why he did so much, just so we can remember him now that he's gone. I can only hope people remember me as fondly.

  • Jim seems like he would have been a cool guy to hang out with, seems like he was a nice person too.

    RIP.

  • my goodness she's hot

  • My dad is this type of neighbor lol.

  • I love watching his movies growing up

  • He was a good man. You could tell he wasn't just putting on a front for people he was actually a good person.

  • I liked this guy so much I bought a video back in the late 80s of all his commercials

  • i love this guy so much i wish he lived long enough to play as slinky in toy story 3....

  • What a classy gent, I love you Ernest and Jim Varney!!!

  • Rest In Peace u are a great acter and cought the eye of so many childiran i grow upp watching ur movies again and i will keep saying it may ur soul rest in peace

  • ernest rules!

  • damn he died 10 years ago i just found out today i feel so bad

  • He looked so young. Cool video!!!!!!

  • Jim why did you leave? Im actually crying right now....i remember your Toy Story video.....R.I.P. im sorry but you will never die in our hearts.

  • There will never be another Jim Varney. He was one in ten million.

  • He was a good man, a good actor, a good comedian. 'Nuff Said.

  • Jim Varney is MY HERO 4 EVER! R.I.P. JIM VARNEY 1949-2000! Besides Ernest I liked his performance as Jed Clampett in The Beverly Hillbillies, his voice performance as Slinky Dog in Toy Story 1 and 2, his performance as Carl in Treehouse Hostage, his performance as the Prince on ROSEANNE, and his final voice performance as Cookie Farnsworth in Atlantis: The Lost Empire.

  • It sure didn't close any doors for Jim. The Ernest character opened the flood gates for Jim's career. Ernest movies are the greatest. I miss the late 80's and all of the 90's so much.

  • he looks so cute in this video he was a good ernest rip

  • how original

  • Ernest was such a big part of my growing up. Jim ruled!

  • Like an old Jim Carey :] epic character

  • @daiveedino

He seemed like such a mild - mannered, soft - spoken, low - key character compared to his manic, high - energy, sometimes obnoxious Ernest character. Jim Varney studied to be a SHAKESPEAREAN actor ! Don't believe me ? Look it up.

  • growing up i seen and own every ernest movie when i was a kid it was just goffey ernest being older revisiting the character and the man jim varney and its sad jim is gone after relizing ernest is in everyone of us and we will never see talent of this kind again

    LONG LIVE ERNEST

  • When I was a little boy, I watched the Ernest movies religiously. Hard to believe that Jim has been gone for a whole decade! I still miss him.

  • What a humble, sweet dude.

  • @warehouselarry I agree, He died of lung cancer unfortunately and died at the age of 51 in 2000. So if you smoke I suggest you stop

  • @Strogenforcer You can get lung cancer even if you don't smoke. Many people don't get cancer even though they smoke.

  • thats a real man! he doesnt carry around a hardend ego shell, what a rarity! i love thisguy

  • I miss Jim Varney terribly! HE'S MY HERO 4 EVER! R.I.P. JIM VARNEY 1949-2000!

  • ill always remember him by that big ol smile :)

  • i know this is a stupid question..but how and when did he go? i grew up watching his movies too wish he was here today :)

  • I think it was about 10 years ago due to cancer (he smoked like a chimney)

  • Eehh heeeuuuuuuuu. Know wat'i mean :b

Jim, we will all miss you.

Who's playing the voice as slinky dog now?

  • There will never be another be another Jim Varney . rip Jim , love you man ,

  • Yes, it was ten years ago this very day he passed. I am happy so many of the viewers to my videos remember him so fondly.

  • @tourmalinehunter I think the only one comparable in looks and general charm is Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs. Oddly feels familiar watching that show. He reminds me a lot of Jim Varney for sure.

  • @ngtechie That is so true. They have the same facial features and mannerisms. They even dress alike. Both are very nice looking men. The resemblence is uncanny. No wonder Mike Rowe can also make me laugh.

  • Was that Jack Lemmon on your recording at the very end?

  • yes

  • What a pleasant and understated man he was.

  • jim varney was such a great guy i'll always remember him as ernest and slinky dog in toy story :) see you in heaven jim

  • He has a large, wonderful smile!

  • i loved ernest as a kid , and still do , i was so sad when he died, it was to early......

  • Interesting, so the running gag of a window shutting down on his fingers started out as a happy accident.

  • does anyone know where i can watch the E True Hollywood story on him.... I cant find it anywhere online and I cant seem to ever catch it on tv or find out when it comes on again.

  • He was a tremendous talent. God took him from us way too soon.

  • I had a feeling that Jim was a nice guy in real life so I'm glad to see that I'm right.

  • ernest greated billy mays wuahahah everyone has a master

just like bruce lee greated chuck norris

  • SIMPSONS - C'mon Cooter, we were beaten by the best!!! (But Dad he didnt seem like the be..) WE WERE Beaten by the best

  • that episode of the simpsons with him is great

  • Damn he seems so shy. Like most geniuses, of course.

  • Yes..he does seem quite shy in the interview. I think it also had a lot do with Joan Lunden.

  • @stonegator yeah... think I'd of been a bit nervous around her also... she's not exactly hard to look at... hehe.

  • @stonegator She is pretty bomb... If I were him I'd say something like... "Hey Vern! She looks like she's got some cushin' for the pushin, know whaddimean? Yeah, I recon there's a tight squeeze when she's on them knees know what I mean? (Big dumb smile)"

  • @RetroBoyWontDie Yeah I mean Heath was the ultimate of Shy and look what he produced. Unreal

  • @RetroBoyWontDie ..He actually was showing another side. As much success he had as "Ernest" he wanted to be a success without the character. His Vegas act was a failure cause of it. People wanted to see Ernest while he wanted to be looked at as a serious comedian. He opened his act by saying he is not that silly guy Ernest. He then made movies but his true desire was to be successful without the character of Ernest. But in the end money talks.

  • @RetroBoyWontDie He was a good down to earth man. And funny.

  • Man they just don't make guys like Jim Varney anymore. Entertaining sick kids in his spare time, still having faith in the Ernest character even after the dickweeds that be poleaxed him to straight-to-video (I loved Slam Dunk Ernest and well, all the s.t.v. stuff) et tout. He was a class act and it's too bad he's been gone so long.

  • And his smile...just awesome to see. Makes me smile too.

  • Jim Varney is a classic guy. Love his work.

  • he seems like he was a really nice guy

  • I miss him! I wish some actor would finish the movie he was in the process of filming when he died and they would release it in theaters. I also wish they'd make an animated movie with his character, that would be great!
