i still cant pinpoint when James quit singing Hard rock/Metal and started getting lazy with the vocals & trying to "SING" ..I THINK it was around And Justice3 maybe, or the black album ,aproximately. Dunno but something sure changed with his vocals & Metallica lost a lot of power in their music after that. Not trying to down them, just saying.

You can actually find roughly when it happened by watching some earlier videos of that year where he's still going strong, then going to like August or September and listening to those same songs after he blows his voice.

But, few months ago I was in LA, checking out a young band in the Whisky a go go.. Guys could play for sure, but I forget their name.

@mathammett1990 Thats true and with the intense touring they did for the Justice & Black Album tours it was only a matter of time that his voice was gonna go. I will say, however, that his voice has improved greatly since 2003 and the band as a whole has performed better since then.
i think metallica was better before jason newsted entered. he did just make one song, where the wild things are. it sounds like someone tryes to make you hypnotized or some shit!!

The concert I went to I looked up from the pit into the stands and saw 10 and 15 year olds playing air guitar.
If Metallica didnt tour they wouldn't be showing the kids of their fans what real music is.
Oh and they still have it, little bit slower, little less drunk.
