If you want to have rats as pets, that's cool. They stink a bit though.

Don't stop at two; get about 5 or more like some friends of mine did.

Then take one out and handle it.

Then put it back in the cage with the others (if you are cruel or ignorant of rat behaviour).

The others will sniff it, smell it is "different" and then kill and EAT it...

(I have nothing against rats. I think if you have two male rats and they hump, you need to introduce a female; they will be much happier...)

I've been told that homosexual behaviour in rats is a way male rats demonstrate their dominance over one another as opposed to fighting, because it demonstrates that the rat on top is more powerful than the rat on the bottom. If I've understood this correctly, homosexual behaviour is not a sign that the rats are missing sexual action, but rather that they do not have a stable power hierarchy at the moment.

Don't assume they're heterosexual though. Rats are one of the over 40 mammals that scientists have documented engaging in homosexual behavior. I've seen it personally in my rat colony, and not just in displays of dominance.

your rat colours are the same as mine, exept the patterns are different. One of my girls (milly) is one colour, with a lil lighter grey on her underbelly, and the other one (molly) is grey, with a hint of dark grey patterns on her back (just about visable) and her underbelly and legs are white, looks like shes been dipped in white paint. lol beautiful ratties u have :-) i have lots of videos on mine :-) (i have 2 rats and 1 gerbil)

Our pet rat just passed away. I'm going to miss him, but he had a long and happy life for a rat, so I don't feel too bad. Your rats are adorable. Depending on who you asked, ours was named "Robin" (he was a hooded rat, and that's what my partner preferred) or "Mouse A. Tongue" because I'm a goofball.

Aww I used to have two rats too. They ended up having 8 babies so I had to give them away. Be careful , they procreate at the speed of light :) They are very smart and cute though. The babies used to fall asleep in my pocket.
