super ! DURAN DURAN**; quelle plaisir* de les voir , souvenir* des années 80**; ils sont beaux*, sympa*....... j aime bien cette chanson*. . . merci a vous pour votre vidéo : )
Ya know.......I was a big metal-head in the 80's. Everyone in our school was into old 60's and 70's stuff and generally hated the music of our generation. The biggest event of the 80's for me was Ian Gillan joining Black Sabbath. I generally couldn't have given a toss for the girly-man bands coming out of England, but I have to admit I liked this song for some strange reason. Just goes to show, there seems to be one good song in every band.
Why is it that a majority of todays British Musicians don't sound like they even bother trying to make it to american music charts? I thought at one time that was a achievement was to try and and be famous in both Britain and America.
@trechan I think it's because of The Marketing. While The UK always has room for Boy Bands & Girl Groups, in The US it's always about Supply & Demand. Also, I feel that the UK are more "Open" to various Types of Groups, ie Girl Groups, Guy Groups, Co_Ed Groups, and Interracial Groups. Sadly enough alot of Groups from this Era are no longer selling Records so I think that The US may be a bit fickle of taking a chance on a New Group from the UK.
Too many ppl criticise the 80's for the hair styles, clothes and music, now looking at this clip it looks fine to me, looking at todays crowd makes me yawn with the boring outfits they wear, the music is crap( maybe some is good) good God even the clothes lack style, we have these stupid gay fashion designers who couldn't even design a condom. 80's are the best, 90's a close second.
Thumbs up if you're tired of looking back and wishing the present would change so the future will be great!!!
after all these years Duran Duran still belt out a good tune. When i was in high school I was obsessed with Duran Duran & there music. im now 39 yrs old & still hang out to listne to there music. @jo25182518 I just loved what you wrote. This was truly MY band, & they put me in so many great moods(made me lust after them, too, lol), like you said, esp. when I was down. I was always influenced by alot of the British bands in the 80s growing up, but also, from your Aussie bands(if I did read that correctly, that you are from over there). My first influences were from several Aussie artists. I just turned 40, & I still am just as euphoric about D2, when I turn on their tunes, as then.
I remember this vid beating out ever other video on MTV's Friday night video fight. Viewers could call in and vote for their favorite video and The Reflex even beat out Van Halen's Jump before being retired!

This is my second choice for there best two record the best record to me has to be the Long Version of WILD BOYS !!!!!! and yes i do agree with kindhearted1 they are timeless .......
I have always absolutely loved this song!! Such a rockin song from such a great band!! Duran Duran sure put out some great songs during this time! Such an amazing band!! Wow, the memories that come with this song!! Such great memories, the best really! Such a great era to grow up in!! Why it all had to change, I guess that is life but hard to let go of what we loved the most. I will always miss the 80's but I hold the memories tightly in my heart forever. Missing the 80's. 80's forever!!
I love this song! And that was an actual concert, not just a music video. Similar to what GNR did for You Could Be Mine and Arnold Schwarzeneggar.... But, they just hired people to be concertgoers...
@roosevelthighschool Wow..Good Question. In the old days VH1 had the Countdown every day. I don't remember what MTV did...Now I'm curious...I'm going to find out.
@roosevelthighschool -Good question, I was curious, too. Here's what a fan wrote: I, being a HUGE Duran Duran fan, can shed some light on this song. Back in the 80's when I had the word book for the album and meanings, this song simply was about a person being on stage, forgetting words and making them up as he went along. Whoooah, such pizzazz! Brings back so many good memories of the 80's. Music then had real engery, real craft, real musicians, real lyrics & real style unlike most of the banal crap these days! True, but do you remember the constant fear of nuclear war? The best thing about the past is that you can pick off the good bits, as if they were pepperoni that you stole from your sisters slice of pizza, and leave the onions and crust...
I totally love Duran Duran!! Always have ever since i heard the album "Seven and the Ragged Tiger". What an Awesome album along with "Rio". I played the crap out of both of those albums back in the day. Now, i play the crap out of the cd's !! What an awesome era for music!! I am so glad I was there to enjoy the 80's and that I have such great memories of this era. There will never be a time like it again. Missing the 80's and all the great times. 80's forever!!
I remember the Silver Spoons episode about 1000 years ago when Ricky and Derek were in NYC chatting up cheerleaders or something who only wanted DD tix!!
What year were you in the audience? I know that duran duran was at the ACC in 2005. I'm just curious, hope you don't mind me asking. Cheers and thank you!
Yep! Duran Duran is (was?) a real band and despite the fact that some people don't like them doesn't mean that they weren't good and wrote songs that will remain long after anyone will be able to remember who the hell were BSB, N'Sync, Five or whatever.
They actually played musical instruments, as opposed to doing cheesy synchronized dance numbers. They wrote all their own songs. They may have had some cheesy but they weren't really a boy band. Boy bands were assembled by some corporate music industry types.
What do you mean "so what"? You asked for his opinion and he gave it. There is a major difference between a talentless boy-band who don't play instruments or write songs and a classic pop band who stand the test of time
The difference between Duran Duran and the Backstreet Boys is that Duran wrote their own material and played their own instruments and were a band prior to their rise to fame; whereas the Backstreet Boys were more like the Monkees, a prepackaged and commercialized "act" who were created by Lou Pearlman. Their entire careers were shaped by managers and parents and most of them could neither play music nor write it. The only connection is that they were both admired by goofy teenage girls.
The Monkees were manufactured but they did seek to break away from that which created them and took more control over their music, incidentally two of them were professional musicians and Mike of the group was also a song writer.
Yeah, I realize that and know all about the musical accomplishments of the Monkees, prior to them being the Monkees. Stephen Stills was considered for a part, BTW. However, I was just using them as a model of a prefabricated and made for tv "band" in order to make my point about the backstreet boys being a different type of group than duran duran. I probably should have used the new kids on the block as the example, instead.
Yeah the New Kids weren't anywhere near as good as the Monkees. Still what is manufactured is manufactured it all depends on the people the manufacturers put into the product.
@roosevelthighschool they are nothing near or anything like backstreet boys... NEW kids on the block was the backstreet boys of the 80's...would be a better comparison... duran duran is summerized by @junglejack1978
Heh, that's funny! I just made the exact same comparison (above) before i even read your post..Yes, the BSBoys were the NKOTB of the 90s, a prefabricated "band" that was the creation of managers and studios execs, not the members. The idea of the group existed before the actual members They didn't organically form into a band like Duran Duran did. BTW, although i enjoy several songs by DD, I'm not really a huge fan and therefore have no idea how i got into this little debate about the group(lol)
@bignigbignig I understand 100% what you're saying and everything but is what I was trying to say was that Duran Duran was as popular as Backstreet Boys. Think about it.
I put them above typical boy band status... in the respect that they wrote and played the songs. I liked them as a kid, then got to see them in college when they did they came back with Ordinary World... even as older guys now, they still killed it. Amazing show, and flat out good tunes. This coming from someone who likes old school punk and hip hop. Duran Duran's just classic.
@djrocks65 In order for this music to make a comeback you would need an audience to support it on TV, radio and in concerts. Those of us who love this kind of music are movers and shakers now, moms and dads, etc. etc. We can't really see Duran Duran this week and U2 the week after that and watch MTV 5 hours out of the day listen to radio for another 3 like we used to.. The music industry has been American Idolized which has no room for groups with instruments. Dancing music today sucks
I was absolutely spellbound when this song/video came out.......It still makes me feel the same way today and I'm 45 :)

@lazyweb: Now just what the hell do slices of pepperoni pizza have to do with what I said? Just curious.

What year were you in the audience? I know that duran duran was at the ACC in 2005. I'm just curious, hope you don't mind me asking. Cheers and thank you!

@rama771 - Sorry, I didn't know this video was shot at Maple Leaf Gardens in 1984. I would have loved to have been there.

I am not that fan but I predict the 2010's will see a big Duran Duran 80's songs return and remix (notice I didn't say the 90's songs).
Ndriana 2 years ago
Yep! Duran Duran is (was?) a real band and despite the fact that some people don't like them doesn't mean that they weren't good and wrote songs that will remain long after anyone will be able to remember who the hell were BSB, N'Sync, Five or whatever.
JungleJack1978 2 years ago
I consider Duran Duran to be the Backstreet Boys of the 80's. Does that sound weird? Be honest.
roosevelthighschool 2 years ago
They actually played musical instruments, as opposed to doing cheesy synchronized dance numbers. They wrote all their own songs. They may have had some cheesy but they weren't really a boy band. Boy bands were assembled by some corporate music industry types.
RainPoetry 2 years ago 10
@RainPoetry: So what? I know they wrote thier own songs.
roosevelthighschool 2 years ago
What do you mean "so what"? You asked for his opinion and he gave it. There is a major difference between a talentless boy-band who don't play instruments or write songs and a classic pop band who stand the test of time
puppi3000 2 years ago 2
@roosevelthighschool: lol. "So what?" That's a good one. Well, in answer to the question posed in your original comment, yes you sound "weird."
RainPoetry 2 years ago
The difference between Duran Duran and the Backstreet Boys is that Duran wrote their own material and played their own instruments and were a band prior to their rise to fame; whereas the Backstreet Boys were more like the Monkees, a prepackaged and commercialized "act" who were created by Lou Pearlman. Their entire careers were shaped by managers and parents and most of them could neither play music nor write it. The only connection is that they were both admired by goofy teenage girls.
ritter89 2 years ago 2
The Monkees were manufactured but they did seek to break away from that which created them and took more control over their music, incidentally two of them were professional musicians and Mike of the group was also a song writer.
schizoidboy 2 years ago
Yeah, I realize that and know all about the musical accomplishments of the Monkees, prior to them being the Monkees. Stephen Stills was considered for a part, BTW. However, I was just using them as a model of a prefabricated and made for tv "band" in order to make my point about the backstreet boys being a different type of group than duran duran. I probably should have used the new kids on the block as the example, instead.
ritter89 2 years ago
Yeah the New Kids weren't anywhere near as good as the Monkees. Still what is manufactured is manufactured it all depends on the people the manufacturers put into the product.
schizoidboy 2 years ago
@ritter89 right on point.
Sysminsays 2 years ago
@roosevelthighschool they are nothing near or anything like backstreet boys... NEW kids on the block was the backstreet boys of the 80's...would be a better comparison... duran duran is summerized by @junglejack1978
bignigbignig 2 years ago
@bignigbignig: I just mean that they were as popular then as the Backstreet Boys were in the 90's. Sorry to confuse you.
roosevelthighschool 2 years ago
Heh, that's funny! I just made the exact same comparison (above) before i even read your post..Yes, the BSBoys were the NKOTB of the 90s, a prefabricated "band" that was the creation of managers and studios execs, not the members. The idea of the group existed before the actual members They didn't organically form into a band like Duran Duran did. BTW, although i enjoy several songs by DD, I'm not really a huge fan and therefore have no idea how i got into this little debate about the group(lol)
ritter89 2 years ago
@bignigbignig I understand 100% what you're saying and everything but is what I was trying to say was that Duran Duran was as popular as Backstreet Boys. Think about it.
roosevelthighschool 2 years ago
They were and still are a REAL band.. boysbands like BSB and all the others were/are just a bunch of guys assembled together by music marketeers
GerdVdB1 2 years ago
Prettiest boy band of the 80's. OMG, still get excited everytime i watch this. LOL
trixie898989 2 years ago
I put them above typical boy band status... in the respect that they wrote and played the songs. I liked them as a kid, then got to see them in college when they did they came back with Ordinary World... even as older guys now, they still killed it. Amazing show, and flat out good tunes. This coming from someone who likes old school punk and hip hop. Duran Duran's just classic.

Damn, I sure do miss the good old days. Music will never EVER be the same again. Sorry.

if only this music made a comeback
djrocks65 2 years ago 3
@djrocks65 In order for this music to make a comeback you would need an audience to support it on TV, radio and in concerts. Those of us who love this kind of music are movers and shakers now, moms and dads, etc. etc. We can't really see Duran Duran this week and U2 the week after that and watch MTV 5 hours out of the day listen to radio for another 3 like we used to.. The music industry has been American Idolized which has no room for groups with instruments. Dancing music today sucks
