I put a piece of plexiglass on the screen using double sided tape. The plexiglass was about 20$ as I recall, and they cut it to size at the hardware store.
The pen won't damage it because he put plexiglass on it. The plexiglass will protect it. It's the same principle as putting those cases on your iPod or other MP3 Player, which I recommend InvisibleSHIELD.
