Some might remember the Pumpkins as a mainsteam alternative band, but they'd best not overlook the pure beauty of this album.. It's one of my desert island albums.
I know that this is many people favorite pumpkin album, and it is great, but I actually think it is my least favorite. For me it is Siamese Dream, Melon Collie, Machina, Adore, Zeitgeist, then Gish...I have not really listened to Teargarden yet.
I agree AsunderCleft. I was told by a guy who met or knew of Billy (went to HS with him at Glenbard West in Glen Ellyn IL), that he knew of this great band that would be HUGE in his opinion. After work that day I went to buy the tape Gish, i remember it like yesterday. I was about 16 or 17. Like a true purist love Gish compared to anything to follow. The rest is history, that guy I did Summer landscaping with was right on the money, they became HUGE.
Smashing pumpkins soli are funny. You know first of all I didn't really liked them. Then I listened to tones of other good music liky kyuss, colour haze, aic, old rhcp, old incubus, black sabbath, led zeppelin, blind melon, etc. ... and after all this I fuckin' love them, they are so fuckin' wild, expressive and totally unique.
Pure genius, easily the greatest Pumkins album ever. I still haven't found an album that compares to this, probably because this album deals with the topic of topics, that being spiritual enlightenment, and it's expressed so profoundly.
