  • this is Rais Khan without a shade of doubt . Very poor acting of a sitar player.

  • this is Rais Khan without a shade of doubt

  • After playing the Ann Arbor Art Fair for 3 days back in 1969, I got the finger bleed from my sitar just like this vid. The crowd, all ghouls, loved it. RH - , their favorite ! Great theatre, this. Classic Bollywood.

  • Beautiful jhala...ustad AHZK is brilliant.

  • What a pile of crap. Anyone with the slightest love of Hindustani music would be mortified at this pantomime. Vilayatkhani gharana indeed!

  • Wah!

  • the film is called `mere huzoor. the songs in this movie are mostly rafi sahabs voice. his voice makes hear the heavens in this earth. wallahi this voice is ALLAHS MIRACLE

  • the film is also very good and an all time classic. do not put down such a fine film my dear friend sambar. this film is full MOHAMMED RAFI SAHABS SONGS. his divine voice is even more beautifull then this sitar piece .

  • which film it is ?

  • no shot of him with Sitar in full. Could be a player from the Vilayat Khan gharana. And yes I have read about this finger bleeding thing before, about Sitar players....well unless I am an Iron man, I haven't bled in 20 years of playing it :-)

  • Hahahahaha..it is just a movie..he is not playing. All the sounds are not coming from the fret he is pressing..LOL

  • It is a metaphor. And I bleed every time I play my sitar dear sirs. Take listen and tell me its not true - and if you are pure of heart I will quit tomorrow, if your souls think i do not bleed for my immortal beloved from over 10 years ago. It is no different from Iron Man (you making the neg comments but probably have already seen it- you at least loved spider-man, so did I : ) Anyway its mythology - or does it only count if Johnny Depp plays a pirate?

  • the music is good. the filming is absolutely garbage.

  • @sambar07

I agree. Listen to the sound and look at the finger position. When the sound is from 'taar saptak' the finger appears at 'mandra saptak.

  • The "guy" in question is the film actor Rajkumar; the scene is from the movie "Mere Huzoor". In the first ten seconds of the clip you can see his right hand plucking cluelessly at the strings. Subsequent shots of the right hand show the strings being plucked in a manner both technically accurate and co-ordinated with the soundtrack. Presumably it's the hand of the guy who actually did the er, play-back. I don't know who he is, but a prime contender is the maestro Abdul Halim Jaffar Khan.

  • abhikmaj,

another contender is of course Ustad Rais Khan whose Jhala was absolutely blistering.I remember some radio broadcasts on AIR where he played Jhala so fast it was hard to believe.

Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan or Rais Khan ? It's one of the two Ustads but which one ?

My vote goes to Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan, going by the sound but I am not quite sure.

    Can you find out ?

  • Rais Khan was not known for his involvement with the Bombay film industry. OTOH Halim Jafar certainly was. He also played the Sitar part in the song Madhuban mein Radhika.

  • dont know where you go this information..but RAIS KHAN played in over 150+ movies in the Bombay Film Indusrty

  • My remark was not intended to be a slur on RK. Even having played for so many movies, he was known mainly as a concert artiste. Halim Jafar Khan's movie recordings on the other hand, run into thousands easily.

  • understand abhik...i might be wrong but this does sound like Rais Khan...not thwt Abdul Halim Jaffar Khan was any less.

  • @abhikmaj lol just randomly pick madanmohans song and see Ustad Rais Khan performing see the movie heer HASTE ZAKHM specialy aaj socha toh aansoo bhar aaye who is playing the awesome sitar without Rais khans sitar pieces this and many songs are incomplete unthinkable.

  • this was done by Us Abdul halim jaffer khan. he mentioned abt this piece during a conversation.

  • sitar players always bleed at every show...it's as much a part of the performance as the samosas.

  • sitar players always bleed? r u serz??

  • This guy is very good. Why is he bleeding? I have never seen sitar player bleed. Its a shame the old man stopped the performance I was just getting into it
