If I remember correctly, something happened to UNC Wilmington's away jerseys (left them at home?), so UNC Wilmington had to wear their home whites - the only jerseys they had with them. Therefore Maryland had to wear red.

He wasn't mad.. From a different Camera angle, you can see the Coach from UNC Wilmington fall to his knees then lays out on his back. When Gary looks over there, all he sees is the coach laying on his back on the court.

What do you mean he wasn't mad? Look at his face and body language. Why he'd react to anything the opposing coach does after the buzzer is a mystery. I think he's angered by the refs immediately running over to check the video.

i can remember being in high school when this happened...i was on my knees in front of the tv, shaking with this nervous anxiety. it was later at night, and i think i was the only one awake at home. anyway, i can remember him running down the court, throwing it up and making it. i jumped and yelled and went crazy...great memory.

Gary was mad at his asst Kovarik because he was supposed to keep the players on the court. Gary didn't want them to get nailed for not shaking hands.

This game was lost before the timeout was called, with about a minute(?) left in the game one of the UNCW players jacked up and missed an uncontested three when he still had 30 secs left on the shot clock. MD got the rebound and scored to get close. Had the kid run down the shot clock, MD might not have gotten close enough to win it.

Vasquez simply needs to grow up and mature as both a player and as a representative for the Maryland Men's basketball team. I think he matured as a player this last season, but seriously needs work on being a team rep. His interviewing skills were atrocious, but improved during the course of the season. His comment about Memphis can be better scrutinized because of what Mizzou did to Memphis. Terps, smallest in ACC, lose to Duke, Clemson, and UNC by over 25pts. Memphis, 19.

Whoever the coach was for UNC-W absolutely blew this by calling a timeout after his player made the free throw for the one-point lead. Maryland had no timeouts left and the timeout he called allowed them to set this play up.

Meh. The "play" was that Nicholas took the inbounds pass, dribbled down the court and jacked up a 3. I doubt the timeout had much of an effect.

Such fond memories of this game...I was at a party my freshman year at PSU and the whole place just erupted when Nicholas hit the "shot heard 'round the world." Apparently they all had the Terps advancing pretty far in their brackets that year.

Thanks for posting. I remember watching this game with a buddy of mine who had picked UNC Wilmington and the change of emotion in about 5 seconds was amazing. If you recall, I think it was Baxter picked up a cheapie in the lane which led to Wilmington hitting their two FTs to take the one point lead just before this video starts.
