  • I love asbestos! I put mustard on that fucking shit and eat it!! Christ.....I think I got cancer just watching this video

  • It has played a tremendously important role in the improvement of our standard of living...

...by poisoning us to death and killing millions of builders and engineers.

  • youtube.com/watch?v=E4Kl4q43okA

  • A dear friend, like step father to me, died from the effects of working with asbesto and its by products, I'll never forget. My own home is built from asbestos.

  • Makes for the best air freshener!

  • Canadad exports this poison to India and othwer poor countries while it's prohibited to use within Canada itself. Tell the greedy hippocrites it's not acceptible!

  • @kaospilotX Also tell the poor countries to ban them instead of collecting duty on the imports.

  • im 19 and dying of asbestosis many think it takes years...but i only worked for the company for a week, everyone in my family has died for lung cancer, so the progression for asbestosis is 100x faster coz i inherited faulty lungs doc says ill be dead withint 6 years..guys if you see asbestos being handled incorrectly...just walk its not worth dying for like i am

  • Rare qualities indeed. :(

  • at 0:57 it looks like cotton candy. I WANNA EAT IT!

  • @527rubbertoe that's a bad idea ...

  • It easy to scuff at the video with hindsight. But perhaps in the future historians will be laughing at our use of say, iron. Maybe we're suppose to live to be 120.

  • What's sad is that even after it's ill effects have became well known,it's still used in large quantities in undeveloped and developing countries.

  • 0:51 That looks cool :D

  • No one knows how much is needed to become sick. I KNOW that I have been exposed to it in the form of automobile friction parts. Will it be enough for me to become sick? I don't know. It surprises me that it's used in that form because surely it's going to be broken down into a friable form. I don't smoke and never have, so hopefully that will be my saving grace.

  • Better living through Asbestos; the wonder mineral!

  • These science spheres are made out of asbestos so if you fell your heart stopping or your lungs falling thats not part of the test..............Thats asbestos" Cave Johnson

    PORTAL 2!

  • Wow... The title of this is so ironic...

  • If it's just sitting there, Asbestos isn't going to hurt you - its not like its radioactive or anything like that. The danger comes when it breaks apart or is damaged: doing so releases tiny, microscopic particles that get into your lungs and damage the cells therein - which can result in cancer.

One exposure probably won't kill you - prolonged exposure is dangerous, though. If you're around it, wear a N95 respirator and protective clothing.

  • @67tr876 Not to mention all that nasty radiation form the largest source around here... the sun... put an end to it now!!! Stop radiation poisoning, put out the sun!

  • It is such a tragedy that this propaganda film was shown to people by a company that had conducted a study 30 years before it was even made proving that asbestos causes fatal diseases. There’s more information at weitzlux dot com.

  • Kent cigarettes had asbestos in the filters during the 50s....for modern smoking pleasure...

  • The general population who believe cell phone radiation is safe, should watch this video. Its like watching history repeat. How asbestos contributed to 'way of life'. If we study the history of asbestos, the industry knew the dangers decades before it became public. So, today telcos are telling us not to worry, cell phones are safe. Yet thousands of studies tell a different story. Brain tumors are on the increase, esp in children. We would be wise to learn from history.

  • @jtking2504

I don't think the radiation is dangerous, but I don't get much of it anyway. I hate telephones in general. Having to live a life with people being able to bug you at any minute is bad for your health even without any radiation.

  • @logik316, all things in moderation. Problem is we are saturated with radiation, even if you dont use a cell phone you are going to be subjected to it - phones, masts and wi-fi emmissions everywhere, with more going up daily. 'Electro-smog' is invisible but unlike asbestos & tobacco, you don't have a choice as there are less and less places to go to escape it. There is a lot of research that connects it to health problems already, but it's distorted by telcos, just like effects of tobacco were.

  • I dunno what it was, but there was something oddly satisfying about when they pulled apart that fragment of asbestos. It's like, woah. Fibers.

  • What about popcorn ceilings Ive lived in a house with a popcorn ceiling for 10 years am I at major risk?

  • Asbestos is so awesome, thanks for uploading this. Showing the true beauty of this fine product :)

  • asbestos was lining the inside of the world trade center

  • @volopok Asbestos was not used in the areas of the world trade centre (center, sorry) where the planes hit. If asbestos had been used throughout the towers, some say they may not have collapsed or would have at least stood longer. Read the Wikipedia page on asbestos, that's where you can read more about this, along with its "ref" links.

  • fiberglass insulation is probably going to be the next asbestos

  • i have asbestos siding shingles and love it

  • welll, there as to be some good use for it, it's still creative, this is the same concern for carbon nanotubes

  • They forgot California!

  • If you need more information on asbestos try this website asbestosattorney.eu

  • and can you guess the relationship of asbestos towards the rock used by our Inuit for "Eskimo" soapstone carvings?

  • markdcatlin is right the EPA ban of 1990 was overturned in the court of appeals and products are still available commercially like roofing, gaskets, brakes and clutches

  • You can find this stuff in old car breaks its depressing =(

  • Johns Manville...Ironic how a huge corporation involving his name is in the insulation business.

  • haha 0:54 that guy totally got lung cancer

  • @YOMAMAXXL why..

  • @tnerual888 cuz hes touching a highly poisonous lung cancer-causing substace with his bare hands? lol

  • this video sucks wheres the porn!!!!!!!!!!!! lmao!

  • A good thing to carry is a water spray, an atomiser like the hair stylist uses, if you need to disturb an area where you are concerned about fibers then spray a mist over them before you do anything.

Asbestos guys use plain old PVA (wood)glue mixed with hot water to enable it to be sprayed when they wet fibres down, mix a spray with hot water and PVA glue and shake it until it's mixed up and white then spray the areas that concern you.

If you have any questions I'll try to help out.

  • @superdonyoungy Hi i am about to rip down some cement roofing ( asbesti ) asbestos ( Greek ) Means ( it cant be turned off ) ? Wicked in a way my ancestors name thing .. We use asbesti for painting the walls on our house for 3000 years plus ?

People still couldn't work out how it kill people and it !! now we now .. My question is since the cement roofing has very little asbesti or how much does it contain ?

I have unscrew the bolt with a liquid widow spray before removing the steel bolts.

  • @karanickolas Mate, get yourself some disposable overalls rated to keep out asbestos (P1 or P2), wear a P2 rated mask or higher, have a shave, keep the asbestos damp or wet and double wrap it when you bag it up, 2 layers. Throw away your overalls in a double wrapped bag after removal of the sheets.

I think the sheets contain around 3-4%, which is still dangerous.

Take care, don't break the sheets if you can possibly help it, if you do wet everything, I've seen guys keep a hose on as the work.

  • @superdonyoungy I don't think you can go wrong keeping things wet, certainly damp. A hose on hand and a hand sprayer with PVA glue mixed with hit water.

The quicker you can bag things up the better, if you're careful and have the plastic sheets right next to the sheets you lower the time you're potentially exposed, also make sure your washing isn't on the line etc... I think a damp/ rainy day might keep the chance of fiber floating around lower.

Throw any clothes that might have come in contact.

  • @superdonyoungy And i am planning to take the sheets down very slowly .. With correct overalls/mask p2. While i am doing this i will wet all areas as go to stop if any asbeti came in up if there is any around which sound vincible ? But what real concerns me is the left over below the and or top of the ceilings that i will remove ? I was thinking to wet the ceiling too with water ? Just been cautious. Do you have ideas ? I have ask people in the trade and they all do it like i have explained

  • @karanickolas I know that the guys mix PVA (wood glue) with warm/hot water and spray it to bond the fibers you are referring to together, I had to remove some asbestos rope once and I caked everything in wood glue mixed with water then double bagged it.

When you dispose of the wrapped sheets you will need to find some place that takes them and notify them before you arrive as they get buried in a marked area to ensure they aren't dug up again., well they do in Australia.

  • @karanickolas I don't think you can go wrong keeping things wet, certainly damp. A hose on hand and a hand sprayer with PVA glue mixed with hit water.

  • I am an Electrician and reside in the top 10 most likely to contract Asbestos related diseases along with plumbers and other contractors.

I still encounter Asbestos every day, I hate it, there's a terrible attitude that many builders have towards asbestos, I see it ripped out by idiot guys without masks all the time, if these guys are around you just walk off the job, there's nothing you can do but walk, you'll lose money but hey? life's not fair.

Smokers are in four times more danger.

  • @superdonyoungy

Hi, I am an asbestos surveyor, and you are right many trademen are totally ignorant or just plain stupid when it comes to asbestos. I recommend you always ask to see the asbestos register when you are doing work in a building - and make sure you read it properly! Also if you are suspicious about something do not drill into it until you know it's safe - power tools will create loads of fibres which you will end up inhaling into your lungs.

  • I'm 35 and was exposed to Asbestos when I was 25 for about a month, it's a little soul destroying because the British Health and Safety authority only gave the builders a verbal warning even though they knew it was present.

I worried for months and realise there is nothing I can do, I am still in construction and moved to Australia where Asbestos sheet is everywhere.

My advice to construction guys is.

    A)Don't Smoke

    B)Wear a P2 rated mask every day

C)Throw away clothes you think contain fibres

  • @superdonyyoungy: pls correction P3 mask for asbestos!

    the finest mask only.

    P2 is for glass fiber

  • Makes me wonder if this is the stuff that I found in my apartment ceiling loft that was built in the late 1960s. I found this weird brownish/greyish insulation underneath the loose fill yellow fiberglass insulation. I know that it wasn't cellulose because you could shine a flashlight at that stuff and see tiny splinter like fibers. Since I had already (potentially) stirred it up and exposed myself, I tried to burn a sample of whatever insulation this was and it wouldn't burn. Asbestos?

  • mesothelioma is a terrible disease to die from and it doesn't help at the crematorium where it takes 3 days to cremate the poor bugger who died from it. Almost as bad as the alcoholic who dies from drinking 2 bottles of brandy a day when it took 3 days to put the fire out.

  • Asbestos is broken up into 2 groups. Friable and nonfrible. Friable means easily crumbed, releasing fibers into the air. Popcorn Ceiling are friable however if asbestos is undesturbed you will be ok. If the ceiling is falling apart you can do one of two things. 1, you can paint the ceiling succesfully encapsulating it however you may disturb the asbestos while painting. or 2 you can call a professional asbestos worker, like me, to set up a containment barrier and perform a ceiling scrape

  • look im about to work on a house thats full of vermiculite, its all over the floor, i need to change the service, how much does it cost for you guys to come in and take some samples to see if they test positive? i know it may not contain asbestos, but if it was mined in libby montana, it can contain tremolite

  • many people suffer mesothelioma from unwitting exposure to asbestos. how would you like to find out in 30 years that the keyboard you use contained chemicals that are now killing you - incurably!

If you are suffering from this insidious disease you may be entitled to compensation to help with your treatment, or improve your quality of life.

    mesothelioma-lawsuits. info

gives you info to help with this and start you on your path.

  • Haha 5 stars for irony! XD

  • This shiet is banned! (Im not offending you)

  • I have an asbestos fence on one side of my house but I think it was put up after all the banning of the dangerous materials, I think it is encased in cement. However as a kid i stupid played darts against the fencing & im afraid whether I inhaled the dust particles or not. I never really stood around the fence too much & the dart holes are only very small "scratches", am I safe? I was never exposed for long periods of time I only played for 10-20 mins for about a few weeks. Thats it?

  • My elementary school had asbestos in it (removed a few years after I went to high school), and the house I lived in at the time had asbestos too, and I turned out fine. The house I live in right now has lead pipes.

I basically spent my life in buildings with asbestos and lead pipes, so according to today's, over-paranoid public, I should be dead by now.

  • asbestos takes 20 - 40 years to affect you, so u still may have lung cancer down the road....

  • does asbestdos take time to go into yout lungs and kill you? or can you just breath it in and it will still have the same effect?

  • Asbestos fibres are so small, they pearce through a cel membrane and unlike most other materials do not rot or get "eaten" by the body's defense system.

As long as it is not disturbed it's fine, but when an old house (with asbestos) fals down for whatever reason, the dust becomes dangerous.

    Take care, LW

  • Asbestos, like Salmonella, is blown out of proportion, you have to be in an industry where you work with it in some way to actually get long term effects. living in a house that has it wrapped around the hot water pipes isn't going to hurt you at all.... it's an amazing and wonderful natural mineral that can still be used safely. it's still used in oven door gaskets and brake pads because it wont burn. it's an unmatched insulator as well. If you work with it, wear a mask. it's that simple.

  • Workers who developed asbestos-related disease often spent years in clouds of asbestos dust, spraying insulation inside ships or weaving fireproof cloth at textile mills. They worked in places that might have a typical asbestos dust level of 10 fibers per cubic centimeter of air - enough to cause 20% of workers exposed for 20 years to develop lung cancer or mesotheliorna, a fatal cancer of the lung's lining.

  • Smoking 2 cigarettes is as dangerous 4 hours exposure to disturbed Asbestos dust (airborne dust)

  • Actually asbestos in any commercial use has been banned since the mid '90s.

  • In many countries, asbestos products have been banned. However in the US, only some asbestos products have been banned. Asbestos roofing materials, siding, cement pipe, floor tiles and other products can still be made and sold. Senator Patty Murray of Washington State has proposed a law to banned asbesros in the US.

  • How do I get Asbestos! I WANT IT NOW!

  • tripyramidslide, i have seen Asbestos for Sell on Ebay. but why do you want it?

  • Improvement of our standard of living? - it ruined many peoples lives -__-

  • on dirait bovy

  • fire bad, asbestos GOOD

  • WOW this is a miracle! surely everything will be made of asbestos in the future!

  • It surely won't. Asbestos is highly dangerous when inhaled. Thousands, and thousands construction workers who worked with this stuff died. And they are still dieing.

You probably won't see asbestos in the future. Unless you get mechanical lungs or something

  • if people in the future only use stuff's from after 1973 will they not find asbestos but if they in the future use or play with stuff's from the 30's/40's/50's/60's will people also in the future gets cancer.

  • That is what is happening right now. Workers are dying AGAIN after refurbishing old contaminated homes and buildings!

  • i think he was joking

  • @sunshinei3D umm there is tosis in everything iam a local 95 heat and frost insulator and asbestos worker, and they use asbestos to this day in many many products. its only controlled better ...not banned

  • @sunshinei3D I have play with asbestos in 2004 and I did not know it was white asbestos.

  • @sunshinei3D

The dangers of asbestos are grossly overstated, and it's a shame it's been banned. The only people who got sick from it were shipyard and factory workers who were sticking their heads in the dust every day for months or years. Breathing in particles from fiberglass insulation over time can be just as bad, yet it's perfectly legal. Though I'll bet you anything that 20 years from now the lawyers are going to get rich making us rip that stuff out of our walls too.

  • @logik316 This is nonsense. Asbestos is dangerous. There have been known cases of mesothelioma in people who have had even minor encounters and brief exposures to asbestos.

  • Too bad you can get cancer in a matter of days with this...

    Because it sure look sweet.

  • a friend of mine has asbestosis because his house was insulated with it that shows you what it cab do

  • but then later in 1973 Asbestos got banned. it can kill.

i think i maybe can die about 20 or 30 years. i had contact to it. for some years ago.

  • My, how things have changed....

  • I think I might suffer from Asbestos when I'm older because me and my friends have been going in this abandoned factory for quite some time now (about a year) and it was only today that we seen a sign that said "Warning Asbestos" and my some of my friends was outside and they was throwing bricks and stones on the roof to try and make us scared.

  • well your fucked

  • Basically.. Yes. Lol.

  • For great information about asbestos and mesothelioma go to: discussmesothelioma.blogspot, com

  • my grandad died of Asbestos :

  • Asbestos : a matter of time [untill it kills everyone who lives in a house built from 1920- 1989

  • 1 room in mu]y house is full of it.. my land lord tells me its ok.. im payinf monthly rent to this cunt face and shes fuckin killing me

  • its alright if its not distubed..... in what form do you have it in? flooring? ceiling tiles? drywall compund? as long as it it sealed up and not broken up, you cannot breathe in the fibres, and it will not harm you at all, asbestos is dangerous when the mineral fibers become airborn and lodge themselves into your lungs.... if its left alone, its totally safe to be around asbestos, just do not disturb it. it should only be professionaly removed if rennovations are taking place

  • yes its on the walls... but im moving out of this shit hole anyway.. thanx for your reply

  • It might not have much asbestos in it. the save level is .0001% I just got the zonolite (a type of vermiculite insulation) tested and it is in that safe level because its .0001% in the air and not in the insulation itself. Your best bet would to be get it tested, because unless your redoing any rooms or anything its fine as long as its not getting moved. ALS labs does testing and they have offices all over. :-)

  • Zonolite is trimoloite: the worst kind of asbestos. Be careful!

  • well thats the thing... nomatter what asbestos type it is it still has airborne fibers that get stuck in your lungs and throat, theres no stoppin the cancer yaw

  • Joys of humanity...first they say its good and then they say it isnt...makes me laugh all the time, but I suppose thats how we learn, aint it

  • Hilarious

  • I work with asbestos it is only dangerous if u inhale it or ingest it this video is way before respirators or any other precautions every one needs to thank the EPA and OSHA.

  • Explain the osha procedures regarding asbestos.

And explain if asbestos is the fiber within the rocks or the rocks itself.

  • i touched an asbestos cement roof and i am now worried i am gonna get cancer and die

by touching i mean just putting my hands on it please take me seriously as many websites say i could possibly die

  • Dear Petra678,

The danger is from inhaling the asbestos fibers. Touching an asbestos product will not increase your risk of cancer. And while it is best to avoid any exposure to asbestos a brief exposure, as you've describe,is not a concern. Workers who've gotten asbestos related cancers have had, at least, a few weeks of inhaling asbestos fibers.

    Mark

  • your wrong their is one case in february of 1973 of a woman dieing of asbestosis and mesothelioma after 4 days of exposure but on the same hand she smoked like a train. the latency period is usually 10 to 20 years

  • @markdcatlin so if i were to go into a building with asbestos what would be the best way to prevent inhalation of asbestos?with out a asbestos rated respirator..would a simple painting mask help?

  • @markdcatlin Not totally true, you do not need a few weeks exposure to end up dying of asbestos related disease. A one-off exposure can end up killing you - mesothelioma (cancer of the lining of the lung) only needs a relatively low exposure. However I would not judge touching an asbestos cement roof as a significant exposure - smashing up the cement would.

Asbestos cement usually contains chrysotile which is the least dangerous of the three main types. Although it can contain the others too.

  • @petra678

Whoverver told you that is a moron.

Asbestos is harmful if inhaled as he tiny microfibers 'hook' themsleves into your lungs it's nickname was the "Hook Hair"

Thousands of asbestos lined buildings are demolished each year around the world and although a demolition company will remove asbestos, they'll never EVER be able to remove it all so asbestos in our air and has been for many many years. Touching it is not going to give you cancer, breathing it in increases your chances ONLY

  • @petra678 not to scare you be cause im sure your fine but i work around asbestos daily it only takes ONE fiber and you saw how small they are to eventually give you cancer and smokers are up to 75% more succeptable to the fibers just be careful around it

  • get help and information and help victims:

    mesothelioma-asbestos-cancer(.)info

  • light up an asbestos ciggarette if your a real hardcore fan.

And also whats all this shit about the colour of asbestos and if you can or can't see it!?? Simple tip....If your close enough to see it - your GOING TO DIE!!!

  • and also whats scary? the people poking about with asbestos in this video probably like...you know?....died from the stuff!

  • I heard from an asbestos attorney that popcorn ceilings contain asbestos and that they have several cases involving ppl that have been exposed to asbestos living in apartments that still have those ceilings...

  • shiitaki, i have a popcorn ceiling :o

  • they used vermiculite a type of asbestos to make the insulation and the bubblie effect of walls and ceilings but their is a stipulation from 1970 to 1980's it is presumed asbestos from 1970 to any earlier it will be 90% likely it is asbestos

  • and not like 1% asbestos. more like 30%-90% asbestos. It is a pain to remove too. It gets everywhere

  • Not all ceilings... asbestos was banned in 1973 and popcorn ceilings are still common in new houses.

All it is is plaster sprayed onto the ceiling with a special nozzle.

Anyway, if you paint over the popcorns, it should be OK.

Besides, it'll look a lot better and they wont keep falling down all over the place like the fuckin things like to do.

  • I work as a asbestos remover LOL

  • youtube is the coolest fucking thing in the world.

  • They had electron microscopes in 1959? Awesome...

Thanks for posting this, you're great.

  • Asbestos litigation took on a life of its own. If you in the asbestos business for a few months, that was enough to get you hit with a mass torts lawsuit.

  • the only reason they didn't know that it was dangerous is because back when it was made peoples life span wasnt as long back then

  • The first evidence of disease was found early in the 20th century - Life insurance companies in the US quit insuring asbestos plant workers about 1920. Records of the asbestos industry show they decided to not tell workers of the dangers of asbestos exposure in the 1920s

  • @gwer126

On the contrary, it's been known since ancient times that asbestos affected the health. They just didn't know in what way it affected their health.

  • For decades, people were being subjected to asbestos exposure without realizing the impact it would have on their lives. Asbestos exposure is linked to deadly diseases including mesothelioma, lung cancer and asbestosis. As a result, asbestos related litigation has been one of the largest challenges to address.

  • Does anyone know whether white asbestos dust is visible or invisible? I know that asbestos fibres are invisible to the naked eye, but if one was to disturb white asbestos powder then would you actually see the dust as it was being disturbed, or is the dust itself also completely invisible to the naked eye?

  • Asbestos dust, irrespective of type (Blue, Brown & White - AKA Crocidolite, Amosite and Chrysotile)is visible to the human eye down to a certain particulate size. Research shows that the fibres that lodge themselves deep in the lungs (the ones that cause the various types of asb related cancer), are between 2-5 nm (nanometers) in length and <5nm in width - i.e. well below what is visible without any kind of microscopy. In other words, its the fibres you can't see that will kill you!!!

  • Why did they use it in building materials when they knew it was highly dangerous?

  • The industry actively suppressed information on the hazards and aggressively marketed its use in thousands of products.

  • I think if we took the precautions, we can bring asbestos back and use it. But still, asbestos is extremely dangerous because the fibers are invisible!

  • Don't be so fucking stupid.

    1. Asbestos will never become legal in the western world again. In the UK its use has been prohibited since 1985 (blue and brown), and 1999 (white).

    2. Every month/year, regulations on work/removal with regard to asbestos is tightened and made more legislative.

    3. Asbestos fibre is only invisible at a certain size. Bulk material is clearly visible with the naked eye, and if properly managed/removed the risk can be reduced - but never totally removed.

    4. TIT !

  • i got a asbestos roof and the government are paying people to take it off

  • Asbestos is scary. The ends are so sharp, it can get into your individual cells and poke at your DNA.

It's one of the very few carcinogens that actually cause cancer mechanically, not chemically or through radiation...

But at the same time, it's a damn good insulator of heat, because all the fine strands trap it all. Too bad it's so dangerous, asbestos substitutes are never as good as the genuine article.

Lets see what evidence stacks up over decades about fiberglass :(

  • they cant poke your DNA, you are mistaken

  • It makes you lungs fire proof!

  • And it fills them with delightful tumors! Ancient philosophers called them "intelligence lumps." Of course, we now know that they actually provide *wisdom*, not intelligence.

And remember kids, a pack a day keeps the doctor away!

  • ROFL

  • lmao :D i aint worried anymore! thanks for that :]

  • remember, it isnt dangerouse until touched or damaged. only when touched or scratched might tiny particles enter your lungs

  • Nobody knew how dangerous it was. Except the corporations, unions, governments, and anybody who read the newspaper...

  • Search for 'asbestos worksafebc' to see if the house you're working on contains asbestos.

  • Not only did it improve our standard of living, it also killed much of the population. :)

  • the full 20 minute version is funny as

  • Will be useing this vid for training not bad at all

  • haha! cool old movie! Thanks 4 Posting
