This is a clasic - CLASIC- example of look where you want to go, not where you don't want to end up. That was an easy corner but driver's attention was on the gravel pit. At that speed it tales only a split second to deviate from your course. Again people, look where you want to go; aim for the vanishing point/open road; don't zoom and visually lock on real or perceived obstacles.
Try to watch this video by focusing on the far portion of the track (vanishing point) and you'll see the mistake.
Oh my.... they should have thrown a red flag or pace car/black flag everyone into the pit after 2 or 3 cars went off at the same turn. Yellow or debris flag only means "proceed with caution" and no need to slow down, which was a dangerous signal to give out to the drivers under such situation.
There was only a standing yellow in turn 8. no flags at bridge. this flag was out for 3 laps, for one car in gravel pit. didn't see incident until too late. hit oil spot and what do you do!! the corner worker over the radio said.. "we have oil on track, putting out debris flag" and then seconds later.. "mayday, mayday, mayday." NO TIME FOR REACTION. #89 - 17seconds behind me said that the debris flag just came out as he entered 8.
There was a yellow, however there was not a debris flag thrown. That would have helped. I saw the cars off, and slowed down to yeield to the caution flag, but not knowing there was oil or whatever on the track is what caused me to go off. I was the Blue/White car you see on the left as he enters the gravel. I was one of maybe 3 cars collected that didnt have any damage.
The safety crew does not care that your car is running! Even tho this is an SCCA race, ( and I know the motto is "race on regardless")their job is the people driving the cars, checking for injuries, and fuel leaks and any other dangers! You had no idea if you might have been leaking fuel, and you were revving your engine less than 5 feet from the guy you just hit!

Wow. I have never seen something like this at an scca event. I thought this happened only in iRacing. That stinks.

Drivers should have checked Turn 9 Flags where there was a surface (debris) flag displayed even if you ignored it or were going too fast.
