If Germany and it's army were in Soviet Union only to fight communism, why were they so savage against the soviet population. The Wehrmacht committed war crimes - it's a fact. But it is also a fact that not every German soldier was involved in atrocities and that's what most people today don't think about.
The woman from the Netherlands also did not mention that it were the French who declared war on Germany after the invasion of Poland and not the Germans on France. Of course it was a breach of international law to invade the Netherlands but it was the only way to overwhelm France. We cannot turn back the clock.

They were correct in reacing to that invading Neutral countries is nothing new the Allies did the same two examples are Iran and Iceland. I'm a US combat vet, and I can respect their desire to protect the homeland. The average Wehrmacht soldier was just like our Iowa farm-boys or Chicago metropolitan, just young men doing the task at hand, in this case the survival of ones friends, family, and national identity. They are soldiers, you can still see it in the way they carry themselves. Soldiering is an unsavory business that civilians never understand, and luckily so. Though, I watch them out of intrest to hear voices from all sides of history. The Wehrmacht committed war crimes - it's a fact. But it is also a fact that not every German soldier was involved in atrocities and that's what most people today don't think about.
The woman from the Netherlands also did not mention that it were the French who declared war on Germany after the invasion of Poland and not the Germans on France. Of course it was a breach of international law to invade the Netherlands but it was the only way to overwhelm France. We cannot turn back the clock.

They were correct in reacing to that invading Neutral countries is nothing new the Allies did the same two examples are Iran and Iceland. Most of the actions in West were betwen the manuveres and counter-manuvers by Allies and Germans lets say Norway for example the British had already wanted to occupied it but Germans got them first because of the relation with Sweden and its vital resources.

I'll also say the experience of these men will differ from those of a unit gone crazy with blood-lust and fatigue and commit atrocities . It happens in every war, and every army. Doesn't make it right, it just simply IS. The Germans were the aggressor when invading the Netherlands, that cannot be denied and in that sense, they were the "bad guys". I'm a US combat vet, and I can respect their desire to protect the homeland. The average Wehrmacht soldier was just like our Iowa farm-boys or Chicago metropolitan, just young men doing the task at hand, in this case the survival of ones friends, family, and national identity. They are soldiers, you can still see it in the way they carry themselves. Soldiering is an unsavory business that civilians never understand, and luckily so. It's the bloody old politicians that get us into these messes.

@Gmancrap About invading other countries you can talk with British and French colonialist. They really felt like it. Poland HAD German teritories. Read Nuremberg "proofs" and acusations about "secretly killing". Back then gas chambers were steaming chambers, and the jews were "tortured " with atomic bomb! Learn to read a document once in a time, smart guy!

actually quite true and the land in poland that hitler wanted was german once and russia got more of poland after the war!
The russiand also killed many more people than the germans including the jews, some say the jewish army was a jewish army.

@tpvalley It is interesting, to this DAY the Jews are still talking about the present and historic persecution of the Jews in the Soviet Union and Russia. A few times a year they stage national benefits to transport Jews out of Russia to Israel using Hollywood celebrities.
