If I ever bought a Porsche, I would get the base Boxster (not the S). I am not a fast driver and therefore don't need a powerful car (245 hp is plenty). Anyway, the Boxster is all about handling, not speed.
Yeah, but your gs350 can't pull 1.0g on the skidpad, 71mph+ through the slalom or run lap after lap around a racetrack without demolishing it's brakes and tires.
On another note, most car mags that tested the 05+ Boxster have 0-60 in 4.8-5.1sec.
I was unsure when looking at the Boxster at the dealership. I had test driven a BMW Z4 the day before. Once I drove the Boxster I knew Immediately, I was in LOVE!

That 3.4 litre engine is an absolute stunner! Do not criticise the boxster till you've driven it.. because it you don't understand just how good it is till you do.
Looks you will either take or leave.. but it really is as good as everyone says it is.
that is a nice boxster! carbon ceramic brakes wow!!

I love porsches but what drives me mad is the lack of standard equipment and to make things worst the options are riduculously expensive.

This is a problem of all German cars, except Opel maybe. You can easily double BMW 3-Series base price by throwing some extras :)
