It really gives me agony to see how the bands are Punk and Hard Core today! Minutemen is exmplo of genius, both by letter and acidic politicized as for his sense of humor! AVE Minutemen!
Man, I would crap/piss my pants if I could see a show like that. D. Boon's politics were sort of dogmatic/rhetoric-based though. Don't get me wrong, he's right for the most part, bust just too generalizing. What an incredible band. Must've been pretty incredible for those who were there and pushing back against the bullshit our nation pulled in the '80s,
Love how the security just tosses the kid back in the crowd instead of kicking his ass and or detaining him.
"THEY OWN THE LAND, WE WORK THE LAND. WE FIGHT THEIR WARS, THEY THINK WE'RE WHORES. ITS WHO THEY ARE, ITS WHAT THEY ARE< ITS WHAT I HATE! IT's WHAT I FEEL, ITS WHAT I SEE, ITS WHAT I TASTE!"
hey look girls in the front row! One of the benefits of doing music that isn't pure hardcore I guess. You get to have cute girls digging you up close instead of them getting forced out under threat of getting knocked the fuck out lol
if u listen to the lyrics of minutemn with open mind and abit of knowledge of recent history and reality then....
was d.boon's passing in a so unfortunate carcrash.. an accident? with so much to say.. and on the verge of breaktrough after touring with rem.. meltzer?
If he died of some freak accident you might have something to work with, but car crashes are so ridiculously common. And back then nobody wore seat belts. Something like 40,000 people per year die of car wrecks today, when most people now do wear seat belts.
I'd like to believe Boon died for something more than just bad luck, but there is nothing to support the assertion.
Watch close at 9:33 someone in a blue tank top runs across the stage and grabs the mike in front of Mike Watt. I think it is Curt Kirkwood from The Meat Puppets, you can hear him singing along from the edge of the stage then he yells Minutemen Rule!! during the guitar solo.
i can't believe this was posted....thank you so much blanktv! im 16 so i was never alive to see these guys play, but man! this is one of the best bands ever...and i cant rest until they get the recognition they should!
In my opinion one of the best bands ever to come out of any scene any genre anywhere any time. Real honest music with groove, feel, and meaning. No bullshit here.
I find it interesting to think about how much we lose and how much we gain by only having rough recordings of awesome bands like The Minutemen. Production can make things pretty and nice, but you lose so much when everything is cleaned up.

a new generation learned who the Minutemen where.... I was rocking Double Nickels in my car and my girlfriend perked up and said is that the Jackass song!! LOL!!
do you have to see the body bags come off the plane just a little bit just a little bit just a little bit too late can you hear them call your name? can you count the lives they will take? do you have to see the body bags before you make a stand? can you hear them just a little bit just a little bit too late
when you hear them and call your name can you count the lives they will take? do you have to see the body bags before you make a stand? the cheerleaders call our their names on the sidelines they can feel the players sweat and i wonder what it is they see? all the rallies will never set them free can you hear them call your name? can you count the lives they will take?
we'll talk some reason we could look at the past will the nation grow? prosperity may last can we look at the problems ahead? with our heads in the sand we might as well be dead cheer him on the leader of the team he'll push on through at all cost to win but are we free to think for ourselves or doomed to repeat our mistakes?
'Cherleaders' is sick as fuck. Anybody have those chords? Whoever puts up Minutemen tabs/chords will be classified a hero forever. Shit, is that Cris Kirkwood? What a bill, Meat Pups and Minutemen. I'd die for a gig like this.
Another thing: some people comment on his looks, mainly his weight, just like I did, but he was like a flipping ballet dancer up there. (I'd give anything to dance like that! I'd have a new girlfriend every night!) And he didn't miss a step or a note! He was obviously in some kind of ZONE when he was up there. I feel sorry for people who don't feel this band. And it wasn't just him, it was the whole flipping band! Just incredible! (BTW, my previous comment was a reply to rborollajir).
DAMN straight D Boon could dance. and he'd dance in italian leather shoes that his feet were bulging out of. Oh shit that's an awesome MEat Puppets cover they're doing
This is too good. It hurts! Absolutely incredible band!! Pure emotion and honesty. The best of rock'n'roll. Should be a Hall Of Fame for true rock legends not that absolute Corporcrap Jann Wenner spews out!
they were so fucking ahead of their time it is mind boggling. 99.9% of the human race can't even comprehend how deep this shit is - twenty + years later.
Amen brother, or sister, or whatever you are. However, let me add that anyone who gets this shit has to check out Captain Beefheart's stuff, specifically Trout Mask and Lick My Decals Off. There is no doubt the Minutemen knew the Captain's work intimately, esp the jangly guitar parts. It's a shame about how D Boon died: obviously overweight, so seatbelts were uncomfortable, so that's why he freakin' died. SHIT! Same thing happened to Sam Kinison a few years later. Such a shame for all concerned.
Are you high? I like Beefheart and Trout Mask Replica is incredible. IT"S ONE FUCKING TAKE. but the Minutemen were much better musicians and wrote more melodic songs than avant-garde.
The old indie scene will be missed. :( The Minutemen, Husker Du, Black Flag, Minor Threat, Sonic Youth. . . so many more, so little time to listen to what I wish I had grown up into.
I advise trying to find a book called "Our Band Could Be Your Life", it's a collection of biographies(I suppose) of some of the bands I listed and really helps understand and appreciate this era in music. Fuck being a rockstar, punk rock roots for life.
my brother got that book for me for my birthday. it's highly recommended. i don't even listen to half of the bands in that book, and it's still a great read.

Your drummer is pretty good...your fat ass lead singer with the flabby titties is the shit!....and I mean that in the most litteral of terms....pew pew
The band I played in was called 'honest injun'. I remember the Minutemen doing 'Jesus and Tequila' during sound check and man - they were SO good. George Hurley had a golf club bag that he carried his drum hardware in and I thank him for the idea and inspiration because to this day I still use a golf bag to carry my cymbal stands etc.
I used to play drums in a band back in the day and we had the good fortune to be able to open for these guys in Mtl Canada on their "Campaign Trail 1984" tour. To hear "Corona" or "History lesson part II" brings me to tears every time. Truly one of a kind - soulful and affecting music from the heart.
I saw "We Jam Econo" at its opening night in NYC some years ago, at the Walter Reade at Lincoln Center. Afterward, the filmmakers talked about making the movie -- they so had the spirit. And I went up and told them this: "Thanks for makin' this movie, because when I'm in the presence of boon and watt and hurley... I remember who I am. Simple as that."
