Along with the fact that any individual would have the ability to burn alive anyone who got close to their car, the idea was deemed to be counterproductive, in that most car jackers would simply shoot the driver prior to approaching the car as a routine means defense!

Actually, it is entirely legal to kill someone in self-defence in South Africa. In most places in the world, injuring or killing someone in self-defence is legally justifiable if the level of force is reasonable.

I can't stand some people's attitude that you should just lie down and take it while some thug ass-rapes you and takes your property or threatens/injures/kills your family.

What if the guy knocking on the window simply wants to tell you your coat is stuck in the door? or that you boot (trunk) is open? or that you've forgotten to replace your fuel cap?

Any reasonable person would see the fitting of a device like this as a pre-meditated act of someone going out looking for trouble.
