  • Yes a good good song is good song I know Sandy Denny was a great favourite of Mary's and her songs keep appearing on her albums and on stage. Lovely thanks for the treat

  • This is mary Black...What else needs to be said......Wonderful!!!

  • That's true.. I think this is beautiful. If you can't say anything nice & don't like it, just a mouse click will get you away from it. Please let the rest of us enjoy the show.

  • Actually, I preferred Judy's version until the Uilleann pipes struck in. The perfect accompaniment instrument to a tune such as this.. Now I've got a new favorite.

  • Say which is your fave version of a tune and respect others their right to their choice. Age has brought that lesson to anybody who has long enjoyed music. This celtic one is very good too. Thanx for the posting.

  • I agree my friend !! All to often on u tbe i find i run into a mussey snobs who picks at someones post or song or artist or just someones grammer lol and they seem to have lost sight of what music brings us....!!! A personal revelation...thats all that counts !! so enjoy and peace out a bit for fxxks sake ! lol

  • lovely version

  • Thank you, LordofDiblin. "Lose the debate...." (and you are a lot more tolerant than me - what I really wanted to say was how the fuck can anyone really REALLY hear music with all that fucking knowledge competing with it!! Ah, but I only thought it, or maybe dementedly whispered it to you). Thanks again.

  • At this stage Mary has covered almost an entire album of sandy songs.....Hmm,What a great project that could be

  • I love this woman's voice. First saw her singing "Hard Times Come Again no More" with the McGarrigles, Rufus Wainwright and Emmy Lou Harris on Youtube. It's so nice to discover this artist. Thanks for sharing, and let's remember lovely Sandy Denny today: 6 January 1947 – 21 April 1978

  • My favorite version of all time.......... Judy Collins!!!!

  • Eva Cassidy sings it better then Mary, I'm afraid.

  • She's like an irish Dolly Parton

  • Lovely... and it seems based more on the Judy Collins version than on Sandy's original...

  • @Lavendel59 ~ Thank you our sweet, dear Gabi.....

    A Beautiful Song by Sandy....

She has a similar "song styling" as the late Eva Cassidy..

    Love & Hugs,

    Bob&Robby

  • I love her version of this song. So very emotional. Love her.

  • Lose the debate folks about who sings this special song best. Whether it's Sandy Denny, Judy Collins, or whomever else it is a song to be enjoyed and embraced. It's all personal preference.

  • Mary also does a super wonderful version of By The Time it Gets Dark!

  • Love to you, Pascale!

  • this is a magnificent rendition. Very moving and beautiful. :o)

  • Mary makes every song she sings her song. Sweet, crystal clear voice that pierces your heart with honesty and opens it to an understanding all of life's frailties.

  • Lovely, just lovely. Nobody can emulate sandy denny,Mary Black comes close

  • pretty good and different again....but not of her best....or the best version

  • This is a wonderful version... and one of the very best!

  • Hard to beat Judy's version but this is shimmering and almost ethereal with the Irish pipe.

  • This is a fantastic cover of the song. Absolutely wonderful! Thanks for uploading it. ;)

  • Mary Black's version of this song just blows me away. Powerful yet wistful.

  • Judy Collins does the best version of this song !!!!!

  • Stiil love .........YOU.

  • I love Mary Black, but still no one has ever done anything with this song that gets even close to Sandy Denny....

  • can we keep instances of this great song being covered to a minimum? .. i'd hate to go to a store one day and hear cheryl crow singing it .

sandy dennys version , the one on unhalfbricking .. that i sthe one ..

  • Oh come on....this is Mary Black! I think she has earned the right to sing a Sandy Denny song....and believe me, Sandy is revered in this house.

  • oh i agree, this is very pretty . but with the internet and all these days it could fall into the wrong hands. anything can happen in a world where "pink moon" is used in a car commercial ...

  • GREAT VERSION, We Need to hear more from Mary and the emotion that she knows how to deliver. God Bless and Rest In Peace dear Sandy and Eva. Please carry on Mary. We need you and your talent today more than ever.

  • What you wrote is so beautiful - just what I was thinking too. Sandy Denny and Eva Cassidy - beautiful voices!

  • Sandy denny was a friend who came and closed her soul spirit around our new and beautifull meeting. Since we married by our dad in australia and we are still sailing high. This song and you version is unberleivable and magestic, the arrangement is just ...........Thank you for you voice and honesty. Proud of you A.

  • Uh, I think you're saying you like Mary's version & you're proud of her &, if that's correct, banjgo, I heartly agree.

  • not so much

  • I love everything I've heard Mary Black sing and one song that she does that is my favorite and that is Both Sides the Tweed. I would like to see that song on Youtube

  • Judy Collins made this song a real heart opener, great job by Mary Black for sure. . .

  • I know, by right of authorship, this is Sandy Denny's song. But, if I didn't know that, having watched all the other versions on the tube, I would think it's Mary's.

  • .....Sandy gifted us and the world with the words and essence

and is the real essence of the "meaning of those words"....

It was time for her to go....but, she is still here with these words

with no thought of time....who knows where the time goes...

Love remains and grows thru the emotions and breath that she gives this great body of work....

Our loves in this life never really leave us..

Sandy gave this song birth...now, others life, if only

    for a moment in time--

    blessings,

    suziestew

  • blessings--rvcrvc2

    my thoughts are with you...

  • Wow !! Where has Mary Black been all my life. Just happened upon her recently. FABULOUS !!

  • From Englands finest folk singer to Irelands ! I adore everything about Sandy Denny but more recent Mary - Mary Black my hero , I have so much to thank her for - aside from her introducing me to the legend that is Sandy Denny .

  • Oh how I miss Sandy Denny -

  • I've always loved the Nina Simone version. Very haunting.

  • First, just covering this song shows good taste. Second, sure Sandy, Kate, and Nanci's versions might be better--but those three are the greatest and most tasteful singers of all time. Third, did anyone notice the spacey backing and recording--very sensitive.

4.5 stars! I need to check out more of Mary.

  • Sandy Denny owns this song...anyone have a copy of it???

  • What a great song, Thanks for posting this.

  • Very nice version - I first heard this on a Judy Collins recording in the late 60's. I've never strayed from my love of accoustic music.

  • Mary Black is always good: but the Collins version of this song was better.

  • ~ Brilliant ~

  • Just incredible.
