I was in the Coast Guard as an enlisted man back in the 70s. So, I have great respect for it. It is not only right to protest but actually an obligation, if you feel that the government is wrong. They come from poor families, and have little education, and few opportunities for a decent future WITHOUT joining one of the branches of the service.

Supporting our troops could and in my opinion does, mean getting out of an illegal war. It is illegal because the Congress did not declare war on Iraq. So, every war after WWII has been illegal.
Vietnam was supposed be an advisory role and help out the French. That changed as a result of the fake Gulf of Tonkin episode, that never happened.
Most everything else was a UN police action or coalition, but all US led without a declaration of war from Congress, unconstitutional.

Attack Canada? If you were trying to make a point then that sucked, Canada as opposed to Iraq which geographically it's not idiotic to think of them supporting terrorists. Maybe everyone wasn't "gung-ho" but you didn't see the protest you did now, as opposed to 2003. Have you talked to any soldiers who have served in Iraq? A good portion of them want to stick it out in Iraq, if the soldiers don't agree with it, then why do so many choose to extend their service time?

Why do so many soldiers choose to extend their service time? For many, the military is the only job option that they have. That's why so many of them signed up in the first place. They come from poor families, and have little education, and few opportunities for a decent future WITHOUT joining one of the branches of the service.

Really? All of our soldiers are poor? I think you need to consider the thousands of soldiers who are middle class, who do have famalies or the many soldiers who are officers WITH college degrees. You'd be surprised but being in the military doesn't mean you're stupid, the military operates the most expensive and advanced equipment that this country sees, and that's why soldiers leaving the military are really valuable to corporations.

I didn't say that they ALL were poor... I just said that the majority of them came from poor families, and/or had no other job prospects.

You honestly think that soldiers re-enlist for jack-shit pay? Have you talked to a veteran lately? I havn't met one yet that doesn't believe we shouldn't be in Iraq right now. Granted they have no opinion on whether or not we should have invaded in the first place, but this isn't an illegal war. But, u knew that
