@cheeriosinabowl The interviewer is Stéphanie Renouvin, she is the grand daughter of Micheline Roquebrune. The woman Sean married in 1975. So she's basically his granddaughter too...
Sir Sean has done his time and provided a long line of quality entertainment. He'll live on in my mind as the real James Bond. Thanks for all the wonderful memories Mr. Connery and by the way; grind a fucking grape fruit in that bitch's face!
Sean said "I`m not going to play Bond again". Then he signed for 007. His wife said "Never say never again". So that is where the title came from. I just found it a bit funny to think about after seing this.
He's had a good innings. Clearly he feels there aren't enough good parts and he's tired of the commerciality of Hollywood. He's had enough disputes as well and he will no doubt have the energy in his 80s to deal with them. Posterity will show he was a graceful, charismatic star who made 3 or 4 very good films i.e. Goldfinger, Man Who would be King, Untouchables, The Hill. He said all there was to be said about who he is and where he is at his AFI lifetime achievement award speech.
@BananaSandwich1 They've said it is not sure the fact he's dead. He could be missing or something. For Brody, on the other hand, it is done, because the actor is dead.
Did anyone else notice that when "People like uh, George Clooney and sort of, um, Sean Penn..." get subtitled, they for some reason include director Steven Soderberg, though he never mentions him? Strange. It's at about the 0:50 mark.
@MultiMrDam Wow. You are definitely correct. But wow, "Soderbergh" definitely turns into something very similar to "sort of, er" (I said um earlier, but "er" would have been closer).
LOL he always says "i get fed up with these idiots and fools no one can play bond better than me im far too scottish for that" he somtimes seems abit full of him
Well, it's too bad he won't be back. But I do agree with him about the way things are done and unfortunately it's not just in the motion picture business.
That movie may have been a poor choice for Connery's swan song, even if Connery did not intend for it to be his last, at the time. (And it's not like this film, while far from the greatest, was all that horrible.) No doubt, however, he could have kept working, as none of his fans would have said, "'The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen' was such a stinker I'll never see a Sean Connery movie again." No, the only thing that ended Sean Connery's career was Sean Connery.
Secondly, this film did end his career. As he has said on numerous interviews, his experience working on this horrendous movie, with the dishonest, incompetent producers and particularly the horrendously inept Director put him off Hollywood for good. After nearly five decades of great acting, you can hardly blame him. Yes he could have continued if he wanted to (obviously), but he didn't need the money, so why bother?
Sean Connery is absolutely fantastic, my favourite actor and always will be. Fair enough for him taking a stand and wanting to be respected as he should be - he was knighted for his contribution to film, so if somethings not going right, then he would know. Love you Sean xxxxxxx
Nothing lasts forever but his movies will last for a very long time and that is enough. His honesty is admirable. He certainly deserved his retirement. Many of the great actors of the past century will pass to the next world in this one unfortunately but their movies will live on.
After watching the really bad bad movie that (sadly) Indy 4 is I´m glad he refused to appear in it. It´s true that in recent years he starred in even worse movies but anyway such a wise decision...
I've algo recently watched him in The Wind and the Lion. Unforgettable performance!
Agree. The movie was awful, and perhaps it was a good thing he didn't appear in it. CGI monkeys and gophers would have probably gotten more screen time. Please George Lucas, stop disgracing the legacy of films I loved as a kid.
