No, it all depends on where the earthquake strikes. The more populated the area, the more damage there will be. If you live on an island somewhere, you will not have as much damage.

@SlimLPShady ..You do realize that we have many more faults capable of producing a strrong earthquake as well right?? Take the San Jacinto Fault (7.5).. The Elsinore fault (6.5-7.2).. The San Andreas can produce an 8.0 but those and other faults cross under heavy populated areas.
