I was in the army back then, stationed in south-east bulgaria, very close to the border. I felt the quake that night pretty bad and it was only 4.1. Next hour we were transferred to Izmit to help... it was unimaginable pain to see all that while it's still so fresh.

My great aunt and uncle went through that earthquake. I remember hearing about the news and going to Turkey the next year. I walked through Değirmendere, and seeing all the destroyed buildings made me feel terrible. I was five then, but I can still remember every feeling.

Awesome video. Very touching. I was in Turkey but I didn't experience it. I was far from the epicenter but still, I could feel the pain and I could understand the pain; the feeling on hundreds of people. What caused more deaths,however, were panic from probably heart attacks to suicide like panicking and jumping out the window of the 5th floor or something like that. So sad.
