The Zero ruled the skies in it's day. That is until different tactics were developed like the Thatch Weave to take advantage of Alllied fighters like the Wildcat. Biggest downfall of the Zero was the lack of armour and self sealing fuel tanks. Six 50 cals spewing hot lead out would take it down in an instant. The Allied fighters had lots of armour and self sealing fuel tanks and could take a lot more punishment.

There were certain aspects of this fighter that have their origins from the west ( the prop for example ..however the design, materials used have been extensively investigated & the grounds for a copy of the british design or of the H-1 have been discredited so for the clueless do some more research,,the handling capabilities between the two arn't even close.
@squizzoo Looking at the H-1 Racer the Zero sure dosen't look anywhere close to it. From what I have read they tested German aircraft to come up with the design. Besides in aviation everyone borrows from others to make a better fighter.
