I'm a massive fan of Nina Simone's work, but she had some vile ideas regarding race. From Wikipedia: "Simone advocated violent revolution during the civil rights period as opposed to Martin Luther King's non-violent approach, and hoped that African Americans could, by armed combat, form a separate state..."
Wow, one election, one BI-RACIAL president AND SUDDENLY almost four hundred years oppression, inclusive of lynchings, Negro Barbeques, Jim Crow Laws, Segregation, Civil Rights Struggle, current Racial Profiling of blacks AND ALL SHOULD BE FORGOTTEN. Think again!
Wow, one election, one BI-RACIAL (white & black) president and suddenly almost FOUR HUNDRED YEARS of OPPRESSION, inclusive of LYNCHINGS, NEGRO BARBEQUES, JIM CROW LAWS, SEGREGATION, CIVIL RIGHTS STRUGGLE, current RACIAL PROFILING of BLACKS and all wrongs should be forgotten. Think again!
As a college-graduate who worked while pursuing my degrees, I don't view myself as a victim. However, the world is so tolerant of so-called Jews & their "never again motto" which means they never let anyone forget the wrongs done to them but the minute a black person recalls injustices done to blacks, they get asinine comments such as yours. Anyway, I'm from the Americas hemisphere but I'm not African American. Finally, scary "white" whatever, your day of reckoning is coming.
Well, if you insist on labeling her racist then I insist on pointing out that : HER "RACIST" RHETORIC COULD NEVER COMPARE WITH WHITES' RACIST ACTIONS, inclusive of hundreds of years of chattel slavery, decades of lynchings, Negro Barbeques, Jim Crow Laws, Segregation, Civil Rights violations, Racial Profiling and unending dehumanization !
@beowulven No. White folks are giving themselves too much credit. They always have by enslaving and socially and mentally abusing black people. The colour symbolism has been instaured in this society and will stay for a long time. We should be ashamed of what has been and still is done.
If you oppose slavery, look to Haiti, where blacks enslave blacks TODAY. What are you doing about it? What are black folks in America doing about it? I suppose it's easier to sit around with your hand out than to get off your ass and work for justice?
@beowulven Well, it's the concept of slavery that was introduced to the society by white folks. The phenomena you're talking about are, in my opinion, just a consequence of the enormous traumatism of slavery. It was not the official end of slavery that erased everything. It's a social issue. Social representations take a long time to change. Freedom of choice, equality of chances and responsability are social illusions. But they do work well. The proof - your point of view.
You are 100% incorrect. Slavery began, and continues, by black Africans in the" motherland". You can deny the truth, but it's still the truth. Read a book.
Oh my, how could I have left CHATTEL SLAVERY off the list of injustices whites committed against blacks during the almost FOUR HUNDRED YEARS of OPPRESSION?
@beowulven I agree with her black people in usa would have benefitted from having their own state! Because white people formed separate toilets, restaurants, and other numerous public places (even white only water fountains) in the good ol USA for hundreds of years, and if we look at it theoretically, this was land that their ancestors stole and raped to get from the REAL Americans (Natives).
So if white people could create their own EXCLUSIVE lil WHITE world in usa,she thought so could WE! :)
I have heard of Nina Somone before but have never listened to her sing. She has done a nice job...I just love this song. Eydie Gorme my favourite singer does an amazing job of this song also. In 1991 she recorded this song along with others on her Silver Screen Songs CD.
I agree, Dusty did "Look of Love" the best out of all those that have done it. Her's capture's the feel, soul, and the passion a person should have for someone in love. I think what did it for me is that "ghostly" studio sound. Timeless!!!
Woah.....amazing

By far, Burt Bacharach's best composition sung by a woman with a voice you could pour over pancakes....the perfect storm.

To really tie this up, let me point out the very next sentence from the Wiki article you cited:
" (Simone was not, however, a racist, and wrote in her autobiography that her family and indeed herself regarded all races as equal.[21]) "
You're argument is seriously crippled by one-sidedness at several levels. Lame.

You are a racist apologist. Good luck with that.

To tie this up, my original comment was that Nina Simone made great music and was a fierce racist. That's my point, enough said. Good luck to all!

Nina Simone's voice is divine and she just puts you in a peaceful mood.
So, I apologize if I interfered with that vibe.
The vibe her music creates just makes you want to get a bottle of the best wine, pour out a glass for you & your man, before you make good love.
PEACE!

"she had some vile ideas regarding race." You are laughable!
No one has more "vile ideas regarding race" than the typical, white American.

Would that be the same "typical, white Americans" that recently elected an African American President?

A famous title She sang, was 'I put a spell on You'; LoL, s.o. commented: 'I love this and I'm only 8', and i replied: 'She put a spell on you'...
why does this come to the mind?
I love witchy females...

Nina is so much more to 'the roots'; "normally" this version should be ultra-famous :)
Then people tend to somewhat scared towards their roots.. <3
