The number of Armenians killed were likely less than 1,000,000, nd was accomplished in a very haphazard manner. It should also be remembered that the Ottoman Turks also used Kurdish bandit tribes to help with the mass killing, promising them the lands of the Armenians as a homeland if they would participate. The stories of women and children being cut open to see if they'd swallowed any gold is mostly attributable to the behavior of the Kurds.

So,ur comment that the # of the armenians killed were likely less than 1 mill is certainly not valid. depending on which source u use, numbers range from 1-3 million

also,stating that the most gruesome deaths were by kurds doesnt exactly make the turkey look better. even imprisoned thugs were released w/ the condition that they'd help.

I want you all too know that the Turks killed 2.5million people not 1.5million,and what happend to all 7 million Armenians from west Armenia. So think about the 7million west Armenians that desapiared so that = to 9.5 million Armenians

Now this is a book i have to get.. Its sad I am a 40 year old man, my grandfather was Armenian and saw his 6 sisters rapped and murdered in front of him when he was 10.. I know so little about the genocide.... I will try to learn more....

i don't understand how much more evidence turkey wants...we have interviews, survivors, pictures by european journalists, etc. yet turkey says nothing happened, and everyone believes it. Even today, there r armenian churches and cemetaries in turkey. I don't understand Turkey's reason...never will. I'm proud of turkish scholars who stand up and acknowledge it. Why is it that people in Turkey are cowards over this whole armenian genocide issue? Yes cowards, stand up and face your fears, acknowledge your history and stop trying to ban that moment of time from existence, it won't happen, people won't forget. They keep trying to pretend it didn't happen, and that is doing a disservice to everyone who was screwed over by the Turks. They can't just act like it never happened.Stop censoring past history. Staying in denial about it, won't lead to progress.

I am almost finishing the book, it's AMAZING! An American friend of mine loaned her book for me to read. I loved it, it's sad but true.

So, hopefully people will take it as a history and not to try to "catch" words to correct!

the denier of the armenian genocide call it the relocation, all the world call it genocide,& the unimaginable slaughtering & killing of 1.5 mil is just one of the crime commited by the ottoman/young turks, the enduring pain,starvation, & killing,of the whole community by all standards is genocide,denying it is the same as participating in it.admiting to the wrong what differ us from animals & make us human of the mankind

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book as I could relate to it and it brought back wonderful memories of my own mother. I would have loved to have meant Ms. Ahnert's mother. Bravo Margaret for a job well done!!!

I really do not know from where to start correcting the words of this lady. I just say that my grandparents have completely the opposite story. And since she is not a "politician, historian, nor a scholar (obvıously she ıs not a by stander either) then I must ask what she ıs talkıng about. And to support your story ıf the only thıng you have ıs Taner Akcam, whose books are full of wıth footnotes whıch have already been disproven then you really need help.

How could she say that the Genocide was not the result of war because it was "Not organized". The whole Genocide argument is that it was an organized and planed act of anihilation of the Armenians.
