Wow. Sea of people. ..White people wearing white! My eyes! My eyes!... Like a hockey game.... Love JB. Lets the music do the talking. Can I go back to 76 now? Please.
@Frisbieinstein I don't think in many cases that Beck actually writes many songs from his albums.. it's what he and Jimmy Page both agreed upon with the Yardbirds: too strong on the guitars, and too weak on the songwriting at that time. Stevie Wonder wrote at least a half dozen songs for Beck, including "Superstition" and "Because We Ended As Lovers". With that said, Beck never got as much praise as a guitarist that he should have- Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, Page, Knopfler- they top my list.
Jan Hammer is a monster virtuoso..and never gets enough credit...and why are they filming Jeff during Jan's solo??? the camera switchers are so dumb..
I struggle with this all the time as I try to videographers to film my band...They're only using their eyes and not their ears...Seems obvious to me...If you're hearing a wicked keyboard solo...put the frigging camera on him!!!!!!!
That'd be fine. I'll just go into the ranks of Capernicus, Galileo and all those OTHER cats who simply opened their eyes and ears and allowed the real reality to inform their views.
I thought I would die laughing when I saw that eternalcolonel had made that comment. He got his sitxh thumbs down by my hand. Say bye bye comment. LOL.
Umm....Jeff beck is a "pioneer" also. I'm not dissing you, but if you actually know anything about him (if you think you do, you're wrong), you would appreciate him.
What a moronic statement. Both Beck and Hammer are giants on their respective instruments, each with decades of groundbreaking work under their belts and the respect of other musical giants. What does Hammer's TV scores have to do with anything anyway?
(and it took you a month to come up with it, as well)"
Not exactly a math whiz, are 'ya colonel? You did your post a month ago, and pesely replied a week ago. That means it was 3 weeks later, not a month, when he replied. And while we're at it, why do you assume he read your post 3 weeks earlier? He could have read it 3 weeks after your post and replied immediately.
Oh, and the words "facts" and "opinion" are not synonymous.
Uh huh. And you probably think the earth is flat. List the Jeff Beck albums you've heard in their entirety.
Quote: "Hammer is a fusion pioneer, and is living rather well off of his TV scores... "
So your measure of musical quality is financial success (aka "living well")? By that measure, Michael Jackson is musically superior to both Beck and Hammer since he's made far more money. Is that your position?
They're both better off when they're together. Jeff plays better when he has Jan's harmonic sense to inspire him. For that matter, Jeff's ballsiness is a constructive influence for Jan. Look what happened to both of them after "There and Back". I rest my case!
oh please, jan hammer and his 'keytar' - go sit behind your piano! what a dork - he just wants to jump around the stage like a guitarist without leaving his piano, totally lame - keytar is the dorkiest instrument of all time -
oh my god! you're talkin about "rock"? then you're absolutly not qualified to say anything about Jan Hammer!!! He' more than this old blues and rock bullshit...
And how can "Star Circle" and other pieces work if there is no synthesizer???

True, but Jan Hammer as a drummer is not in the same league as Simon Phillips (one of the greatest drummers in the history of music) so it's a bit of a shame the only track SP didn't play on on the There and Back LP was Star Cycle (oh and The Final Peace of course).

I have to agree with you, TSFL2. I've seen a better live performance. This sounds like a mish-mash to my ears.
But Beck is a great guitarist.
