I went to John Powell's throwing camp a while back. Brian was there. The years have not been kind too him. But he made up for it by getting drunk, driving his car drunk around campus, driving me drunk around campus and just generally being one of the funniest motherfuckers I have ever met.
@4inches4u its a steel measuring tape they are more accurate and don't stretch with use. They are used predominately when someone may have broken a record.
For all of you youngsters here, here's the scoop on the that era:
The throw was not counted by the IAAF (governing body for world athletics (track & field)) because Oldfield was competing on the ITA circuit, a professional organization, and a rogue one at that time in 1975. The ITA was around from 1973-1976, and American choosing to compete on the circuit automatically gave up their "amateur status" under AAU & IAAF rules.
my throwing coach throw against him and he showd up with u ciggerate in one hand and a beer in one. then after that my coach was a bouncr in a bar and we was in there he said he was a cocky mother fucker and a dick
Just had Brian Oldfield come in and help us with throwing shot. I throw at Lake Park in Roselle under coach Nihells. They are good friends. Overall great guy and really helped out. Unfortunate to see him in a wheel chair.
He is still a legend, and to Godmanguy - all men are perverts, lol!!! And unfortunately, everyone has to get old, but what we do while we're getting there is the adventure.
I threw against Oldfield and smoked a cigarette with him between throws. He was skinny and hadn't started weights yet but he was obviously gonna be a world beater. He had the magic even at 56 '...I like guys like him but he ain't Englebert Humperdink. Englebert never offered me a cigarette ese.

The reach!! virtually never letting the shot go! His hand is like 1,5 meter out of the circle before he lets it go! That is beautiful!

Thanks for the response! Kinda stupid not to count it, but I guess its understandable.

It's stupid that his records didn't count cuz he was a paid athlete. A record is a record
