This bit of sensationalism tries to link birth defects and cancer to DDT, but in fact there's little evidence for this at the levels generally used as a pesticide. If used again in Africa and other places in which malaria is a major killer, DDT would doubtless save many lives.
DDT should be legal again... and of course is harmful DUH its a pesticide.. how the fuck is DDT any different then any other pesticide... try to spray raid in to you mouth and see what will happen.. such things need to be used carefully and not just brainlessly sprayed all over the place... @stacylizard that the US government bans something should not tell you anything, the US government is not the holder of all knowledge, in fact they considered very incompetent by many..including me
Yes it saved lives but we can't be overly selfish or ignorant to long term effects. DDT is fat soluble and persistent, it builds up in the environment, we damage the ecosystems we damage our way-of-life. The fact that people get sick as they age doesn't hold water, younger and younger people are getting sick today. DDT has affects on the nervous systems of human and is cancerous. perhaps all the cases of Alzheimer, dementia, and cancer are a result of the usage of the chemical.
Do you work for the chemical industry?!? What I found laughable is how completely ignorant you are in science and how easily you've been fooled by multi-billion dollar industries. So we should accept exposure to KNOWN human carcinogens as a fact of life, simply because industry decides that is our fate? You are scientifically illiterate, poorly read, and are obviously having difficulty dealing with hostility.
I heard a statistic that I dont know how I feel about. Before DDT 2 million people a year died of malaria, after DDT 0 people died of malaria but 2 people died of DDT, so they outlawed DDT and now once again 2million people a year die of malaria. I know other people got sick from DDT but didnt die, but other people got sick from malaria and didnt die too. so what are the real numbers? did DDT save more lives in the end or are we better off without DDT ?
The Banning of DDT by socilists/communists/progressive minded people in their effort to deamonize corperations led to more malaria deaths than the deaths caused by Lennin, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Castro, and Hitler combined. Lets hear it for the green movement!
Lurking variables are key. Many people are getting cancer because they are LIVING LONGER. The older you are, the higher the risk of cancer. Any medical student could tell you that
Maybe other chemicals are harmful to humans but DDT really isn't. One of the professors at my university eats an entire spoonful of pure DDT at the start of the semester in each lecture. For around a dollar, an African family could be protected from malaria for a year. Banning it does more harm than good. Scientists looking back on Silent Spring really can't find and solid evidence that DDT harms the environment. Egg shell thinning was due to acid rain.
@stacylizard: It is *you* who is misinformed. There are no *replicated* studies showing DDT harms humans, though there are flawed and non-replicated studies that appear to show some effects. The error in the 40s and 50s was indiscriminate spraying, which led to resistance in many insects. However, the WHO approves DDT for indoor residual spraying. It's used in very small quantities and mainly works by deterrance. Better use of DDT could save a million lives a year. Google 3billionandcounting
@xmfclick "Better use of DDT could save a million lives a year" Ever considered that DDT was extremely harmful to the environment? The lives you'd be saving aren't worth the harm in the ecology. What lives would we be saving from killing a few insects, really? People die from murders, from cancer, from accidents, in the millions. You're telling me DDT is going to stop crime, cancer, and accidents? >_>
@ArcanineKing : "DDT was extremely harmful to the environment" -- DDT used to be sprayed indiscriminately. No-one is advocating that any more. In 2006 the WHO approved DDT as a major weapon in the fight against malaria, but for IRS (indoor residual spraying) only.
"The lives you'd be saving aren't worth the harm in the ecology" -- Tell that to the parents of the million kids who die every year. I'd be interested to see the cost/benefit analysis on which you base your statement.
#2 "What lives would we be saving from killing a few insects" -- A million a year. This is more than die from AIDS. Also, 500 million have the parasite in their blood at any time. They don't die but suffer debilitating fevers all their lives. These are mainly poor people and the cost of meds and inability to work makes them even poorer. HOWEVER, as you are such an eco-warrior you will be happy to know that DDT's main modes of action are as a repellant, keeping mozzies away from dwellings
#3 "People die ... accidents" -- This has to be one of the most stupid statements I have ever seen on the Internet, which is saying something and is not worth further comment. From what you posted it's clear you have done no research on this subject, but just repeat the standard lines of the eco-fascists and big-business types who either hate mankind or want to make money selling ineffective pesticides and drugs. Proper use of DDT could eradicate malaria in a very few years.
This is just one of the reasons we recommend that people (especially those who have children) use Mosquito Magnets instead of the pesticides and chemicals used in mosquito fogging systems.
I'm a chemist, and DDT is simply very dangerous molecule.....instead of ruining ones health and the planet for future generations.....we must think of alternatives........already there is a malaria vaccine, technology is advancing....soon people will never have to starve to death. There is hope for a better, healthier, cleaner future.
@JordanPAT "soon people will never have to starve to death." WHAH? Nice hope, albeit extremely unrealistic. I don't think that kind of perfection can ever exist with HUMANS running the show. Sorry, but I must burst your pinkish bubble. We are under corporate take over, corporations don't care about anything BUT MAKING BIG PROFIT. No one HAS to starve to death now, but it happens daily and it will always happen.
@meloearth that's your opinion, but I do see the future as one without corporations.....the monetary system will eventually not be sustainable....it's cost the Earth to have a cheap lifestyle.......we are here to evolve, and people are slowly waking up. I just became a vegan after reading 'Eating Animals" by Jonathan Safran Foer. People change, but most are not given a proper education as the current school system is an utter joke...if there are no dreams to live for, what's the meaning of life?
@JordanPAT : The AIDS virus has 9 genes in its DNA; the malaria parasite has 6000. This is why it evolves resistance so fast. Big Pharma loves malaria because it's a bottomless money-well. They don't want malaria eradicated.
"DDT ... dangerous molecule" -- Take a look at the alternative chemicals. DDT has never been shown to be responsible for a single human death. Many of the alternatives have killed hundreds or even thousands of people.
@TheBraindeadBuddha Read the description of the video, and watch the entire doc...you will know the answer. And pass it on after you are done. It's a great doc, one everyone should watch NOW.
I don't think it's pesticides we should be afraid of. I think it's the shit they inject into our meat to make it grow faster that we should actually worry about.
@Daniel39363 You can always take charge and go vegan. But here's the thing: look up at the skies. Do you see them spraying us daily, day and night? Notice the planes, the chemtrail grids, notice the grayish, hazy skies. Also, every single food you buy in a regular grocery store has GM corn and soy in it. Ever heard about Monsanto? At least the meat YOU can control by not eating dead, sick animals. But can u make the planes stop?
@mesa401 I find people like you (that call people "hippies" in order to offend them) amusing, in a stupid kind of way. You repeat shit like a parrot. Have you truly analyzed that mindset yet or are you just passing it on? I know the answer. ;) You silly Reaganholic you!
Just why was DDT banned? The scientific panel hearing held back in the 1970s, which ran to some 9300 pages, concluded that DDT was safe to use. So just why did William Ruckelshaus ban it anyway? It certainly wasn't because it was carcinogenic to man. And, what effect did the ban in the USA, where malaria had all but ben wiped out, have on the export of DDT to countries which where the people were suffering horrendously from malaria? Check out 3 billion and counting documentary on you tube.
@OneLightHouse1: its another example of how the EPA can side step Congress and laydown the law without the people's consent. We eradicated malaria in our country with DDT and we took away the developing world's main weapon against malaria. Therefore, one would have to conclude that environmentalism killed almost as many people last century as war
This is silly. It doesn't cite any direct relationships and is simply scare tactic arguments. By the logic of this twaddle we should ban table salt because massive ingestion will kill you (and I'm opposed to flouridation) What has happened to critical thinking? If you're as insulted as me by this please post a thumbs up
@redtony58 dude what are you talking about? There are hundreds of papers that have quantified DDT in several marine invertebrates and seeing that DDT is biologically magnified they've found 5-10 fold amounts moving up the food chain and guess whose the last motherfucker in the food chain on earth...yup....I'm glad ppl banned it early. I'm guessing you get your science news from shitsville like NYTimes or one of those indirect sources. Go read peer-reviewed reports form the 70s on DDT
@kinsmobman I won't reply to your science. You cite a, I cite b. Perhaps such an argument would be interesting, but I don't have the time. I hope you would at least agree that everything in our environment affects us. It's a matter of understanding and making rational choices. My comment was on this video which is just infantile and scare tactics. I hope you are capable of a better argument than this stupid insulting film
@redtony58 as for this commercial we can all agree that in those days everything thing was dramatized to the point of scare tactics from political ideologies to even new age beliefs and environmental conservation.
personally i'd rather die of malaria then pesticides anyday. Of course i'd rather not die at all... so how about we make an alternative, because there are many...
All of you who are "pro DDT" are only thinking in the present... think about the future. Sure, maybe it wont 100% cause cancer in everyone who's exposed, or cause them to give birth to kids without limbs or eyes... but it has been PROVEN that DDT ACCUMULATES in the environment. Think past your 2 second track minds and see how that can affect future generations - and every living species on earth... if its poison to bugs, if we get enough of it in our systems it'll kill us 2.
@yupster123 Have you though about the fact that we would stop spraying when we didn't need it anymore? I don't know about you but I think the USA was fine when we sprayed it in here for how ever long we did to get rid of malaria ridden insects.
Why would we ever 'stop needing it' ? Malaria has always been around... and unless we kill all mosquitos, its probably going to exist for as long as they do.
Im sorry but polluting the earth to temporarily stop deaths, is not a solution. you THINK the USA was fine. But do you KNOW? Do you know what affects it has had on people all around the world? Its proven to disrupt and damage the immune, nervous and endocrine system. think about what that means...
DDT is really not that dangerous. Its much less dangerous than Malaria. It should be used in the parts of the world where malaria is still endemic - not the USA, thanks to DDT.
The only reason cancer is going up is because all the other ways we die are going down. We need to bring back DDT to help Africa. Mosquito nets and treatment will not fix the problem.
i hope your joking lol. infact, i am praying that you are joking...
You do realise that there are other ways of eliminating mosquitos .... besides using OBSOLETE chemicals that have been proven to KILL us. regardless... a lot of africans have a resistance to malaria, we dont, they do. Its called sickle cell anemia. Im sure they'd much rather appreciate other forms of help, rather then being given deadly chemicals. ie schools...
Just because one person said that DDT could POSSIBLY (It was never actually confirmed) cause cancer doesn't mean we should let MILLIONS OF PEOPLE DIE just because a handful MIGHT get cancer.
im sorry your retarded. I never said anything about cancer - even though it HAS been linked to cancers, pesticides cause cancer. That's a fact. Regardless.. think of bioaccumulation. DDT is an organochlorine, and a persistant environmental toxin. DDT sprayed from 50 years ago is in fish, and even us TODAY. If we keep manufacturing and spraying it, it eventually going to bioaccumulate to the point where WE will die. You dont know what your saying.. a hand full haha, wow. Try the world
"The only reason cancer is going up is because all the other ways we die are going down" thats not even a reason... thats an idiotic *thought*. Why DDT anyways? theres so many other types of pesticides that our bodies can actually metabolize... or organic ones.
too bad you got your immunizations as a child ... maybe the world would have gotten lucky and your dumbas would have succumed to rubella, polio, or smallpox .... they are after all.. natural. To bad your mammy didn't use birth control!!
for many years I grow wild gourds, nothing eats the wild gourd leaves in the bug world.
I use the leaves in sun tea for my plants, It does not kill bugs but rather just makes the bugs think the plant is a wild gourd and leave it alone, No more pesticide
Black people make sickle cells and that fools the malaria. The statistics are high only because they often times don't use birth control. DDT weakens the shells of raptors and should remain banned. Let nature work the way it is supposed to.
too bad you got your immunizations as a child ... maybe the world would have gotten lucky and your dumbas would have succumed to rubella, polio, or smallpox .... they are after all.. natural. To bad your mammy didn't use birth control!!

DDT is a chemical poison. If u dont know this go ask to a professor in a university. There are 2000 plants that we can use for killing insects. For example Nicotîana tobaccum, Chrysanthemum cinerariaefolium, Capsicum annum + Mustard mix
DDT isn't bad. It just keeps mosquitoes away. If all of the environmentalists would let people use it, people in Africa wouldn't be getting malaria and dying.
Weasel words "could, maybe perhaps, etc." No facts, no citations, just propaganda. A black child dies every five seconds from malaria in Africa. Not one case of death or sickness has ever been proven to be caused by DDT. The dumbing down of America has occurred. The average age at death of an African is 40. Rachel Carson lied and millions died. The WHO said that DDT is safe to use last year. now, under pressure from the greens they are back tracking. May science triumph over green religion!
African is an appropriate way to refer to a child from Africa...not black.
As for DDT, there are countless proven consequences to the use of DDT. Populations of the Bald Eagle and Peregrine Falcon are still, 30 years later, facing troubling truths about their reproduction ability. As for DDT being able to battle malaria, you are absolutely correct. It is for this reason that DDT is still TODAY used to fight malaria in areas of the world who need it. It is just no longer a pesticide.
VietJerseygirl... If you want to put humanity at risk, then you should concider DDT as a solution to killing malaria. Meaning, not millions of death, but destroying our bodies for the future, destroying eco-systems and making people wish they died from malaria instead. See what it did to that frog? Think what it can do to your body. I would rather advice people to do research for better cures towards malaria, pressing countries to find a solution to it.
In Africa, malaria is becoming a very large dilemma. Many people are dying each day. The UN is hiding this fact and aren't helping by using DDT. Although DDT is harmful to the environment, is the UN doing the right thing by with-holding this chemical that can be used to save humans?
It still amazes me that people blame deaths on the "environmentalists". I'm not an environmentalist, I am only an advocate for human health. Man made toxins are NEVER healthy. I don't care what any doctor, scientist or whatever says. Follow the money, as they always say. Save millions with chemicals or put hundreds of billions in a semi-healthy state with other ailments that need to be attended to.. see theres the money maker right there.
In case anyone is wondering, the article below discusses all the human related defects, cancers, and other abnormalites caused by ddt. This is a peer reviewed university published article. Think they are lies? Go to the source, the authors have their email addresses and phone numbers listed.
1. THE HUMAN HEALTH EFFECTS OF DDT (DICHLORODIPHENYLTRICHLOROETHANE) AND PCBS (POLYCHLORINATED BIPHENYLS) AND AN OVERVIEW OF ORGANOCHLORINES IN PUBLIC HEALTH 1
Source: Annual Review of Public Health [0163-7525] Longnecker yr:1997 vol:18 iss:1 pg:211
Oh, and btw the arguements about ddt saving lives b/c of malaria may be true but that was one article published in 1971 so if you have any peer review updated research please pass it on.
Oh and btw. If you want some peer review research published in unversity academic journals, here you go. These articles discuss the various types of cancers, defects and other human abnormalities caused by ddt. Think they are lies? Look up the article and contact the researchers yourselves, their emails, university contacts are all cited on the article.
It is your perogative to attempt to refute people like Carson's highly accredited and tenable research on effects of DDT. Fine. But what is your point? Are you saying that pesticides are good for human development and through increased sprays we are supporting the complexity of the ecological web? I would be interested in hearing how this inorganic pesticide is helpful to human life and ecological diversity. Would you spray it on yourself and on your children?
60 million people died because the environmentatilsts banned DDT. The environmentatlists lied about DDT hurting birds, poeple, and the enivornment. They wanted it banned because it contributed to the overpopulation problem, in other words, they wanted more people to die... you can find reliable websites about DDT if you type in "the actual truth about ddt" on google search. Please don't rely upon this youtube video, pile of crap, for your research..
The World Health Organization estimates that during the period of DDT's use approximately 25 million lives were saved. others say it prevented up to 500 million (National Academy of Science cited first by HTWW).
not a single human life has been lost from DDT. - Todd Seavey of the American Council on Health and Science noted: "No DDT-related human fatalities or chronic illnesses have ever been recorded, even among the DDT-soaked workers in anti-malarial programs or among prisoners who were fed DDT as volunteer test subjects -- let alone among the 600 million to 1 billion who lived in repeatedly-sprayed dwellings at the height of the substance's use."
I thought of a version of DDT that is likely much much less harmful to birds as well as mammals
basically you just attach a highly immunoreactive peptide to one of the benzenes on the ddt molecule If the organism has an immune system that has macrophages then peptideDDT is rapidly metabolized bugs lack that kind of immune system thus the bugs die anyway
if as wikipedia says DDT could have saved another 20 million lives since being banned a peptide DDT may be highly beneficial
You can only die of e.g. malaria if you're malnourished. But feeding people isn't nearly as centrally profitable as drugs. Dupont's patent on DDT was running out. cf Dupont's patent on CFCs was running out and oh look suddenly CFCs're really bad. We can also thank Dupont / Heurst that our cars run on toxic rotten animals instead of clean sustainable methanol, and our clothes wear out so quickly.
2-3 million Dying annually is far from being the only disadvantage of having malaria move around. Certainly clean water and sanitary conditions otherwise are as significant an issue as dealing with Malaria if not more so, but consider the 200-300 million who contract the disease annually, think of how them being sick for several weeks impedes their capacity to raise their own standard of living and health conditions, you care more about clean conditions if you're not worried about just making it
So while those items you mention are significant overall, stopping Malaria with limited application of DDT would do a great deal, both now and in the long run, to empower the people to be in a better position to extricate themselves from poverty. I mean when the cost of a mosquito net exceeds the gains that a person would have made in the several weeks of lost wages, when they make that little, they really shouldn't have to cower to an unjustifiable demonizing of a life saving tool wisely used.
There really is an unjustifiable dogma that any use of DDT is evil and wrong and that view in the context of the realities of this world is inhumane, stupid and, if it persists in the face of the facts, evil.
Amounts of DDT trivial in the context of the total environment could save millions of people at very low costs and rapidly empower those regions most languishing to far more quickly extricate themselves from the horrid conditions you describe.
DDT is very harmful, Chroline is very bad for wild life and in the name at the beginning "Di" meaning 2 and "Tri" meaning 3, so it has 5*Clorine inside it, Penguins in Antartica got it
that was a pile of crap from environmentalists. The reason they wanted DDT banned was because it was contributing to the over population problem, in other words, they wanted more people to die...
Manila - The best hope for a cure to malaria is emerging in China, which is developing highly effective medicines to combat the deadly disease, the World Health Organization said last week.
The new treatments combine the derivative of a traditional herb called qing hao-su or artemisinin, an extremely powerful anti- malarial agent, with modern synthetic drugs ... This is why were trying to speed up the process ..."
Greenies should take their own arguments seriously and jump off the nearest rooftop to do their part in solving over population. I'm just asking for consistancy! DDT was banned explicitly to increase the death rate in developing "over populated" countries. Read Henry Kissingers NSSM 200.
I would not ever argue that Kissinger is a lobotomized indirect murderer, but DDT is a toxic. If it wasn't it wouldn't kill stuff.
The big difference is, that as you increase the number of cells and complexity in organisms they can better repair, for the time being, when exposed to some toxins (in other aspects it's opposite f.ex. radiation) but as DDT (and dioxins and heavy metals etc.) accumulate the effects will manifest. Then it is too late.
DDT poses no threat to human health, in fact during the 1940s people would picnic underneath the white spray of the salvation fluid DDT, Millions of children die of malaria each year in africa, the rate exploded after DDT's world wide de facto ban.
and guess what? when DDT was "banned" we replaced it with parathions which are TOXIC, DDT was so safe you could drink it out of a cup, the same can't be said of many thing we have in our medicine cabinet
Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Hussein: every single dictator has been financed by the same global banksters and they all payed back their loans. Every US President is related to the British royal family lines. US electronic voting machines and lists have been hacked to cheat elections (Greg Palast). The elite puppetmasters rule from the shadows of the 3 + 2 City States and their flag.
I don't know if u ever studied biology, specifically ecology. Soon these mosquitoes became resistant to DDT. Which kills the point of using DDT as it will just kill off the non resistant mosquitoes and leave alone the DDT resistant mosquitoes to multiply. WOW this really makes DDT useless as now all the mosiqitoes are resistant along with the mosquitoes with malaria, enjoy drinking DDT for fun!
DDT still repels even resistant mosquitoes. And I never advocated the full scale agricultural stupidity of previous days, just selective spraying to save 2-3 million, mostly kids and infants, a year. I don't know about you but a little DDT in the environment seems like a good trade off to halt the tide of something that's killed more people in the last three decades than even Hitler managed to kill.
I'm not advocating stupidity, I'm advocating humanity.
@Reaganwannabe Meathion is used in much the same way. It is applied directly to the backs of cattle. If DDT was persistant and as effective for flies and mosiqutos as melathion it could be applied onece every six months. Ivermectin is already aplied inthis manner to protect cattle from lice, and worms and a blend of the two could be of great value.
I love how you're citing a wiki as a source. Ok what that says is that those who were exposed for long term developed asthma, and there is SOME research that links it to cancer, however barbaque can cause cancer, As i was saying the Toxcitity level is low, did you read the part about it being used orally as a treatment for Barbiturates??
Yes. its called cancer. Maybe not DIRECTLY or IMMEDIATLY caused by DDT toxicity, but it accumulates in your fat cells, and causes damage slowly. Just because it kills you slowly doesnt mean its not killing you.
The World Health Organization and countless other organizations have done numerous studies that have showed no casual relationship between DDT exposure and human health harm.
It seems you base your opinion off of preconceived notions that were indoctrinated into you by the insane left.
Over 50 million people have died from malaria since DDT was banned. That's more than the total casualty count of WW1. Environmentalists are responsible for this. They have indirectly sentenced them to death.
@Reaganwannabe You are misinformed. There are countless scientific studies linking DDT to cancer in humans. Just because people were naive enough in the 40s to sit in clouds of DDT does not mean that it is safe to do so. It is extremely difficult to get chemical compounds banned in the United States. The fact that the US government banned DDT should tell you something.
@stacylizard Old age also leads to cancer. Sitting out in the sun causes cancer. You can't protect people from everything, and especially not from their own recklessness.
Btw, I totally burst out laughing at how you called people who sat in those DDT clouds "naive", and yet you yourself are naive enough to think that if the US govt banned DDT, then there must have been a good reason for it.
@stacylizard It's all fraudulent science. People conducting the test made many mistakes in which led them to believe that ddt was linked to anything that happened bad to somebody.
DDT was never shown to cause any ill effects. In fact the head of the EPA at the time completely reversed the conclusion that was arrived at by his own appointed hearing officer even though he never went to any of the hearings and never read any transcripts. The reason there is more cancer is that people don't die from other reasons first anymore.
Yep, DDT was the safest pesticide known to man, until Dupont's patent on it ran out.
CFCs were safe, until Dupont's patent on them ran out.
Hemp was a miracle crop set to supply ALL our FUEL (methanol and oil) PLASTIC, clothing, paper and building material needs CLEANLY AND SUSTAINABLY. Oh, but Dupont had toxic petro patents.
Flourine was an intensly toxic mind control agent, until the aluminium industry didn't know what to do with its effluent...
2) DDT is no longer affective to kill malaria mosqitoes as it already killed of all it can and now watever left is the geneticly resistant to ddt malaria mosqito so no point using anymore ddt as only the resistant mosqitoes will now exist and continue to exist.
1) go check the statistics how much people die from cancer and when these number increase. cross check that with when DDT use increases. and there are more cancer deaths then malaria deaths, cancer isn't perventable while malaria is.
Correlation does not equal causation. DDT use had malaria cases drop to, at one point, 17 infections world wide. And that was infections-the kill rate is around 1% of those infected, so the infection rates now are around 200-300 million annually. When DDT was initially used world wide life longevity, as well as overall population, were increasing so of course cancer rates would increase, more old people overall
as well as more older people mean higher cancer rates. So get off the 'dumbass' express in thinking that correlation means you've discovered causation because you also have not issolated the increase in other toxins that occurred in tandem with an increase in DDT levels. And lead and mercury levels are rather important things to consider.
And your claim that malaria is preventable and that cancer isn't rather
makes my point. When things like mosquito nets and the alternative pesticides are needed en lieu of DDT are compared to the incomes of people who's yearly incomes are just a couple hundred of dollars you're rather spitting in the wind to call those things 'means of prevention' And of what use is cancer prevention if you only live to be 40 because you are constantly trying to work to make-up for a disease that can take 20% of
@HiveRadical LOL you retard, those poor people aren't buying the DDT MORON. It's the politicians with castles in Switzerland who are approving the funding. Get a job and read. Learn about the world.
your annual income when you DON'T die from it, never mind the fact that it likely kills one or more of your children during your life time.
With your even more inane and irrelevant point #2-- DDT doesn't have to kill the mosquitoes to stop malaria, it just has to keep them away, and it's efficacy in doing that has not diminished in the slightest, they even have studies on such. And I'm not
arguing for agricultural implementation or scouring whole environments 3 times annually with the stuff, just residual spraying where people live and sleep and work so that we aren't letting 2-3 million kids die a year and 200-300 million poor people a year contract a disease that puts them out for 3-4
weeks and consumes around 20 percent of their already pitiful annual income. DDT banning is de facto Eugenics. Africans will gladly take Cancer at 60 rather than death at a life expectancy that doesn't even reach 40 years in some instances.
the first reference in my pose that starts "Correlation..." to "old people" was suppose to be just "people" while the second reference to "old people" is to remain "old people"
so it goes "were increasing so of course cancer rates would increase, more people overall, as well as more older people, mean higher cancer rates."

I'm not advocating stupidity, I'm advocating humanity.
You sir don't know what the hell you are talking about. Even if DDT no longer kills mosquito's it is still a very effective REPELLENT.Iit repels them away. Retard
their life expectancy in the wild. We need to grow up and realize that DDT is not of the Devil. Give me residuals rather than more children from third world countries dead than we had Jews die under the Third Reich. Spray a little DDT save millions of children a year.
there's not a study I've seen of egg shell thinning where there weren't also significant levels of lead and/or mercury poisoning in the habitat. And every study I've found on primates and cancer inconnection with DDT has the primates dying of cancer when they reach what would normally be
The de-facto ban on DDT has resulted in 2-3 million deaths a year for the past almost four decades from malaria. What's more egregious, some 70 year old man in the US dying from cancer or a three year old child in the Ivory Coast or South East Asia dying from Malaria? Give me life, even if Cancer takes me out when I'm 50 or 60. The likes of DDT haven't even been shown to conclusively to be the cause of harm in animals,
What makes people ill is adulterated water, malnourishment and poor sanitation, usually caused by violent social upheaval eg industrial revolution, or war. You cannot die of malaria unless you are seriously malnourished. eg video.google Vaccine Liberation, or Healing Cancer from the Inside Out etc.
Polio was really all about pesticide poisoning. The disease doesn't exist.

DDT is the classic example in the relationship betwwen chemical pesticide and enviroment.

This bit of sensationalism tries to link birth defects and cancer to DDT, but in fact there's little evidence for this at the levels generally used as a pesticide. If used again in Africa and other places in which malaria is a major killer, DDT would doubtless save many lives.

DDT is horrible. Jake Roberts is a scary man, and that's mostly because of the DDT.
Asushlo 6 months ago
Yes it saved lives but we can't be overly selfish or ignorant to long term effects. DDT is fat soluble and persistent, it builds up in the environment, we damage the ecosystems we damage our way-of-life. The fact that people get sick as they age doesn't hold water, younger and younger people are getting sick today. DDT has affects on the nervous systems of human and is cancerous. perhaps all the cases of Alzheimer, dementia, and cancer are a result of the usage of the chemical.
Chriskon420 6 months ago

Any medical student could tell you that
FreeEcon 11 months ago
Maybe other chemicals are harmful to humans but DDT really isn't. One of the professors at my university eats an entire spoonful of pure DDT at the start of the semester in each lecture. For around a dollar, an African family could be protected from malaria for a year. Banning it does more harm than good. Scientists looking back on Silent Spring really can't find and solid evidence that DDT harms the environment. Egg shell thinning was due to acid rain.
Kittynugget1 11 months ago
@stacylizard: It is *you* who is misinformed. There are no *replicated* studies showing DDT harms humans, though there are flawed and non-replicated studies that appear to show some effects. The error in the 40s and 50s was indiscriminate spraying, which led to resistance in many insects. However, the WHO approves DDT for indoor residual spraying. It's used in very small quantities and mainly works by deterrance. Better use of DDT could save a million lives a year. Google 3billionandcounting
xmfclick 1 year ago
@xmfclick "Better use of DDT could save a million lives a year" Ever considered that DDT was extremely harmful to the environment? The lives you'd be saving aren't worth the harm in the ecology. What lives would we be saving from killing a few insects, really? People die from murders, from cancer, from accidents, in the millions. You're telling me DDT is going to stop crime, cancer, and accidents? >_>
What are you smoking?
ArcanineKing 1 year ago
@ArcanineKing : "DDT was extremely harmful to the environment" -- DDT used to be sprayed indiscriminately. No-one is advocating that any more. In 2006 the WHO approved DDT as a major weapon in the fight against malaria, but for IRS (indoor residual spraying) only.
"The lives you'd be saving aren't worth the harm in the ecology" -- Tell that to the parents of the million kids who die every year. I'd be interested to see the cost/benefit analysis on which you base your statement.
xmfclick 1 year ago
#2 "What lives would we be saving from killing a few insects" -- A million a year. This is more than die from AIDS. Also, 500 million have the parasite in their blood at any time. They don't die but suffer debilitating fevers all their lives. These are mainly poor people and the cost of meds and inability to work makes them even poorer. HOWEVER, as you are such an eco-warrior you will be happy to know that DDT's main modes of action are as a repellant, keeping mozzies away from dwellings
xmfclick 1 year ago
#3 "People die ... accidents" -- This has to be one of the most stupid statements I have ever seen on the Internet, which is saying something and is not worth further comment. From what you posted it's clear you have done no research on this subject, but just repeat the standard lines of the eco-fascists and big-business types who either hate mankind or want to make money selling ineffective pesticides and drugs. Proper use of DDT could eradicate malaria in a very few years.

JordanPAT 1 year ago
@JordanPAT I'm not sure there is one, but I do agree with you. Hope is a strange phenomena...it never dies.
meloearth 1 year ago
@JordanPAT : The AIDS virus has 9 genes in its DNA; the malaria parasite has 6000. This is why it evolves resistance so fast. Big Pharma loves malaria because it's a bottomless money-well. They don't want malaria eradicated.
"DDT ... dangerous molecule" -- Take a look at the alternative chemicals. DDT has never been shown to be responsible for a single human death. Many of the alternatives have killed hundreds or even thousands of people.

Think past your 2 second track minds and see how that can affect future generations - and every living species on earth... if its poison to bugs, if we get enough of it in our systems it'll kill us 2.
yupster123 1 year ago

Weasel words "could, maybe perhaps, etc." No facts, no citations, just propaganda. A black child dies every five seconds from malaria in Africa. Not one case of death or sickness has ever been proven to be caused by DDT. The dumbing down of America has occurred. The average age at death of an African is 40. Rachel Carson lied and millions died. The WHO said that DDT is safe to use last year. now, under pressure from the greens they are back tracking. May science triumph over green religion!
eddyinsantarosa 2 years ago
African is an appropriate way to refer to a child from Africa...not black.
As for DDT, there are countless proven consequences to the use of DDT. Populations of the Bald Eagle and Peregrine Falcon are still, 30 years later, facing troubling truths about their reproduction ability. As for DDT being able to battle malaria, you are absolutely correct. It is for this reason that DDT is still TODAY used to fight malaria in areas of the world who need it. It is just no longer a pesticide.
ruddjessie 2 years ago 2

The World Health Organization estimates that during the period of DDT's use approximately 25 million lives were saved. others say it prevented up to 500 million (National Academy of Science cited first by HTWW).
Suptiche12 2 years ago
not a single human life has been lost from DDT.
Suptiche12 2 years ago

We can also thank Dupont / Heurst that our cars run on toxic rotten animals instead of clean sustainable methanol, and our clothes wear out so quickly.
stupidtreehugger 2 years ago 2
2-3 million Dying annually is far from being the only disadvantage of having malaria move around. Certainly clean water and sanitary conditions otherwise are as significant an issue as dealing with Malaria if not more so, but consider the 200-300 million who contract the disease annually, think of how them being sick for several weeks impedes their capacity to raise their own standard of living and health conditions, you care more about clean conditions if you're not worried about just making it
HiveRadical 2 years ago
So while those items you mention are significant overall, stopping Malaria with limited application of DDT would do a great deal, both now and in the long run, to empower the people to be in a better position to extricate themselves from poverty. I mean when the cost of a mosquito net exceeds the gains that a person would have made in the several weeks of lost wages, when they make that little, they really shouldn't have to cower to an unjustifiable demonizing of a life saving tool wisely used.
HiveRadical 2 years ago
There really is an unjustifiable dogma that any use of DDT is evil and wrong and that view in the context of the realities of this world is inhumane, stupid and, if it persists in the face of the facts, evil.
Amounts of DDT trivial in the context of the total environment could save millions of people at very low costs and rapidly empower those regions most languishing to far more quickly extricate themselves from the horrid conditions you describe.

@Reaganwannabe "DDT poses no threat to human healt" ... I don't know what to say... Except that you sir are a moron.

@MephilesSolaris
Really? can you point to me any instances in which humans have died from casual contact with DDT?
Reaganwannabe 1 year ago
@Reaganwannabe on wikipedia wiki/DDT#Effects_on_human_health
Would you please do your ressearch instead of asking me to do it for you?
It's not for no reason that the DDT have a controversial history.

@MephilesSolaris
Reaganwannabe 1 year ago
@Reaganwannabe Well the sources I've read of in my classes said otherwise... I guess they were wrong.
MephilesSolaris 1 year ago
@Reaganwannabe
Yes. its called cancer. Maybe not DIRECTLY or IMMEDIATLY caused by DDT toxicity, but it accumulates in your fat cells, and causes damage slowly. Just because it kills you slowly doesnt mean its not killing you.
Idiots.
yupster123 1 year ago
The World Health Organization and countless other organizations have done numerous studies that have showed no casual relationship between DDT exposure and human health harm.
It seems you base your opinion off of preconceived notions that were indoctrinated into you by the insane left.
Over 50 million people have died from malaria since DDT was banned. That's more than the total casualty count of WW1. Environmentalists are responsible for this. They have indirectly sentenced them to death.

Im sorry.. did you just say that DDT was safe? Couldnt be... Can you prove this please?
yupster123 1 year ago
@Reaganwannabe You are misinformed. There are countless scientific studies linking DDT to cancer in humans. Just because people were naive enough in the 40s to sit in clouds of DDT does not mean that it is safe to do so. It is extremely difficult to get chemical compounds banned in the United States. The fact that the US government banned DDT should tell you something.

@stacylizard Bless your heart for trying to enlighten someone whose ID is Reaganwannabe. LOL
meloearth 1 year ago
@stacylizard Old age also leads to cancer. Sitting out in the sun causes cancer. You can't protect people from everything, and especially not from their own recklessness.
Btw, I totally burst out laughing at how you called people who sat in those DDT clouds "naive", and yet you yourself are naive enough to think that if the US govt banned DDT, then there must have been a good reason for it.
FreeEcon 7 months ago
@stacylizard It's all fraudulent science. People conducting the test made many mistakes in which led them to believe that ddt was linked to anything that happened bad to somebody.
WhiteGangster400 3 months ago

2) DDT is no longer affective to kill malaria mosqitoes as it already killed of all it can and now watever left is the geneticly resistant to ddt malaria mosqito so no point using anymore ddt as only the resistant mosqitoes will now exist and continue to exist.
ha9981 4 years ago
i will make you feel like a dumbass in two step:
1) go check the statistics how much people die from cancer and when these number increase. cross check that with when DDT use increases. and there are more cancer deaths then malaria deaths, cancer isn't perventable while malaria is.
ha9981 4 years ago

When things like mosquito nets and the alternative pesticides are needed en lieu of DDT are compared to the incomes of people who's yearly incomes are just a couple hundred of dollars you're rather spitting in the wind to call those things 'means of prevention' And of what use is cancer prevention if you only live to be 40 because you are constantly trying to work to make-up for a disease that can take 20% of

your annual income when you DON'T die from it, never mind the fact that it likely kills one or more of your children during your life time.

Nice to see you can't come up with an actual viable response to my points.
HiveRadical 4 years ago 4
I don't know if u ever studied biology, specifically ecology. Soon these mosquitoes became resistant to DDT. Which kills the point of using DDT as it will just kill off the non resistant mosquitoes and leave alone the DDT resistant mosquitoes to multiply. WOW this really makes DDT useless as now all the mosiqitoes are resistant along with the mosquitoes with malaria, enjoy drinking DDT for fun!
ha9981 3 years ago
DDT still repels even resistant mosquitoes. And I never advocated the full scale agricultural stupidity of previous days, just selective spraying to save 2-3 million, mostly kids and infants, a year. I don't know about you but a little DDT in the environment seems like a good trade off to halt the tide of something that's killed more people in the last three decades than even Hitler managed to kill.
I'm not advocating stupidity, I'm advocating humanity.

their life expectancy in the wild.

And every study I've found on primates and cancer inconnection with DDT has the primates dying of cancer when they reach what would normally be
HiveRadical 4 years ago
The de-facto ban on DDT has resulted in 2-3 million deaths a year for the past almost four decades from malaria. What's more egregious, some 70 year old man in the US dying from cancer or a three year old child in the Ivory Coast or South East Asia dying from Malaria? Give me life, even if Cancer takes me out when I'm 50 or 60. The likes of DDT haven't even been shown to conclusively to be the cause of harm in animals,
HiveRadical 4 years ago
What makes people ill is adulterated water, malnourishment and poor sanitation, usually caused by violent social upheaval eg industrial revolution, or war. You cannot die of malaria unless you are seriously malnourished. eg video.google Vaccine Liberation, or Healing Cancer from the Inside Out etc.
