  • Brilliant ,Finally someone agreeing with Me :) Cut the BS and fancy word's ,STOP confusing your horse ,Be yor horse's friend Before you even get on ,it's NOT just about riding, been saying it for more than 30 yrs ,Thank's David :) REPORE

  • I love this curmudgeonly cowboy. He makes a ton of sense and tells it like it is. :)

  • did anyone else notice the cattle dog was trying to stay the opposite way of the horse when the horse went left the dog went right.

  • p.p.s.again at 13 .32 but with your right shoulder..

  • p.s.@13.25 just when he cocked his head towards you and his right ear was on you if you had turned your left shoulder across him and walked away I think he would have followed you.

  • You can tell that horse wouldn't give to pressure on his nose cause it's got a ewe neck.Hope the rider is ok .

  • I admire your no nonsense approach. Thank you!

  • the dogs cute xD and the horse

  • Hi David..I live in Canada and have to deal with a good bit of ice and snow. What are your thoughts about winter riding.I dont shoe my horses but many people use studded shoes to deal with ice and snow. Thanks for any thoughts you may have to offer.

  • @NewfieSherry Like anything else,, one it depends on how much ice.. Well if I was doing alot of winter riding and had to deal with ice I would either wear studded shoes on a horse or polo shoes which has a rim on the inside of the shoe.If you are riding and just dealing with snow it isnt as important.

  • @david12000000 ....Thank you for your reply.I continue to watch and learn from your video. You are a wealth of knowledge!

  • poor baby, so glad this horse is with you . i was able to keep my buckskin from running off when a pack of bikers thundered by with a hackamore, but i have a leather around the curb chain. lucky it worked.

  • @greatbigbubby a mechanical hackamore is not a mild device.

  • @fmd1964 it's a fucked up device that pulls like a motherfucker.

  • Ya know, I spend a lot of time training my horses and for other people and this is a great reality check. The only times I've been hurt I can truly say have NOT been the horses fault. It's been not paying attention or leaving out steps. You can't overstate that we are the predatore and they are prey and our relationship is very unatural. Our safety is paramount over that of the horse. Great job, David. Thanks for the wakeup.

  • I like how you think and train. I appreciate the big name "natural horsemanship" trainers out there to an extent, and I like many of their methods and the ideas behind them but I agree that they take advantage of their audiences and some of them just aren't practical. I feel like your methods and approaches are still very natural, or maybe we should say "more" natural for the horses, since theres nothing natural about people and horses being together. But you are natural AND practical. Love it!

  • Thanks so much Mr Archer!.You have a world of wisdom. All i can is that I am the reigning queen of horse mistakes with my 2 geldings.I have made them all.Mostly through listening to people who knew nothing and through lack of understanding.I have been in this horse stuff for 5 yrs now [I am 44 yrs old].One thing I have learned is listen to your gut.If something dont feel quite right...it aint.So true about common sense and crap happening.Cause with horses crap happens.Every single day.THANKS.!

  • that is, he weighs around 1000lbs.

  • so far my buckskin hasn't hurt me,. we've been together 3 years this christmas. he only had 30 days when i got him at age 5. he'll be 8 or 9. his neck-reining is so so. my hand me down fabtron saddle is too tight for him so i always ride with a bareback pad. does riding bareback make his back sore? i weigh about 135. he's about 100.

  • i gave up bits a couple years ago and after trying a hackamore, i switched to rope halter. now i'm using a headstall with two leather knots on the noseband. it seems to work alright, but then we don't roam the neighborhood. i was considering trying a sidepull-are they any good? i've been told bosals cause sore faces. please let me know if you get around to it. thanks.

  • Thank you very much for sharing your training and advice through these videos. I am learning as much as I can through them and hope it will give me a better appreciation of horses, especially when I am riding or working with them. Thank you!

  • Good advice !

  • thank you again David

  • So glad you posted this video. I've seen so many people make this mistake and almost made the same mistake myself when I started training my own horses. I love your no BS training methods...

  • AWESOME

  • Do you offer an apprentice type program? I watch your videos daily, when I'm having a problem I don't know how to fix, I search your library to find one, but it's just not the same. Problem for me is being all the way out in Texas! I have so many "how to" questions I could keep you tied up at your computer all day!
