  • Sin spawn anyone?

  • Interesting ....housing and use of the cocnut as a means of locomotion

  • Oh god its so cute. XD

  • If you only had an idea what English (which is very close related to German in case you don't know or ignore the fact) sounds like to German ears you'd spare tasteless comments like that for the future! ;-)

  • Vietnamese is not a beautiful language!!! Its sounds like angry Chinese people. Japanese is beautiful, Hindi, and French

  • i always knew these guys were smart. now we just have to wait until it starts to build its own clan and then a civilization. then we can enslave and have octopus slaves!

  • It's amazing. Octopus are very intelligent. I also think Killer Whales are very very intelligent after seeing some of things they do.

  • Someone kill that thing before it grows fingers...

  • @mwaka369 Another Australian octopus, the blue Ringed Octopus, has the world's deadliest poison in its bite. If those two get together, look out, humanity!

  • Man muß auch Glück bei seinen Aufnahmen haben, Gratulation.

  • wow that was pretty intilegent for the octopus it could just roll around and be quite protected from predators.

  • It's so adorable.

  • It looks like it's having fun!

  • MORPHBALL AQUIRED

  • Elle a l'air de bien se marrer !

  • Forget my comment about that future use. Looks like the "New News" says nothing about it and really IS old news.

  • Soz24. Is'nt a (taping of a) Swiss TV Broadcast from 2008 official enough?

There's no mention of the coconut's intended future use (Home shelter) though, which is the octopus' real stunning ability.

  • i soooo want an octopuss for xmas... makes me sad i`ll never have one

  • on b/s network tv in germany they just showed the same exact footage and said it was "brandnew" and i was told this was groundbreaking cognizance about those awesome 8legged animals... now to find out this was april last year makes me feel yesterdayish again :(

  • Same here in Belgium, I even saw a new video of octopusses using coconuts on the BBCnews site.

The intelligence of these extraordinary animals is not fully explored yet!

  • footage is old but only been released officially last week.

  • the video here on the very page we are watching is from april 2008...

but whatever, awesome octopuss is being very awesome

  • What next? A talking octopus?

    Octopus will take over the world! ! ! ! ! !

  • An Octopus can't talk, but it can twitter and probably spell better than half the people that do twitter.

  • well they do send messages each other trough chromatophores on them ;)

  • I wonder how long they have been doing this and who knows maybe it could evolve somehow by doing this.

if i lived there i'd cut alot of coconuts in half and dump them in that ocean.

  • What a smarty!

  • err...kinda cool as a armor

  • wonderful!@!

  • octopussy

  • Nuuu! Mai coconut! *grabs*

  • That's amazing.

  • 0:25 - 1:01 Octopus goes Morphball!

  • the plural of octopus is actually octopodes - octopi is now recognised only because of the largely made mistake in saying it

  • "The Cambridge Guide to English Usage" actually says '[of octopus, there are three] plural forms: octopuses, octopi, and octopodes. Currently, octopuses is the most common form in the US as well as the UK; octopodes is rare, and octopi is often objectionable.'

I use octopuses (and have always heard that from David Attenborough and such), but you're right too.

  • Octopi are some of my favorite animals, they're very cool and intelligent, and very unique creatures.

This little guy is very cute too. :)

  • If I could have designed life, I would have never been able to come up with a quarter of the amazing life that Evolution by Natural Selection has managed to permit. That's the BEAUTY of it. It's a NATURALLY CREATIVE process! Anyone who says life isn't beautiful is an ignorant fool.

  • Well said. I don't think this Copenhagen meet is going to do any good either, but hopefully we'll get some decent politicians to open their eyes and realise how beautiful this planet is and stop being so bloody greedy! The planet and all its life is special.

  • I LOVE IT!

  • i love my octopus with coconut

    tastes better

  • Mr. Ocktohpuss!

  • what a cool pokeman!

  • that's what i thought. haha.

  • This is amazing. Surprisingly cute, too.

  • MORPBALL: ACQUIRED

  • Such an adorable, magical animal.

  • Shark: Oh hey, a Wonder Ball.

  • Comment removed

  • I love how the octopus wipes it's brow at 1:19.

  • ITS SAMUS OMFG

  • Well I'm no marine biologist, but to me that looks suspiciously like a turtle without it's shell.

  • geiler Dialekt :P

  • sorry but it makes me laff so hard when he says mr octopus xD

  • is that a coconut he's in or did he turn into a coconut?

  • and after that he can use all these arms around his mouth to keep in his lunch ^^

i continue to find the most unbelievable things about them, this here is tool usage at an amazing level

  • I've seen crows use tools, other animals use language, and what we self-servingly call human emotions, even altruism, in other creatures. Time we realized our place in the universe isn''t one of "dominion" (and we've been awful stewards, for the most part) but joyful companionship among our brothers and sisters who do things differently, but are all deserving our our kindness and regard.

  • We can learn so much from these very amazing creatures. Quite a unique animal of exceptional creative ability. A little humbling to witness this. Humans see them as food and not for their ingenious intelligence.

  • MISTER OCTOPUS

  • clams are way worse than octopus I think

coconuts and chickpea is for the breakfast food most likely

  • This is tool use, one of the hallmarks of intelligence. What is even more amazing, is that each octopus has to figure this out independently, as there is little to no parent child interaction, and octopus are not very social. These guys are smart!

  • So enchanting!

  • unglaublich!

  • that's fantastic! 5/5!!
