  • I worked the phones in Los Angeles during Prop 8 and stood out on Wilshire Blvd. with signs, etc. What shocked me was that the gay community did NOT come out in droves to keep it from passing. The gay community has never understood that NO ONE will "give" you your rights if you're "nice enough" and talk about "love" all the time. We needed to take a note from Black Americans and understand that we must DEMAND our rights, but we have to speak up BEFORE someone takes them away.

  • They didn't 'throw a tantrum,' trisshandy. Everybody was surprised that Prop 8 passed. Everybody. That it got a lot of people to engage is a silver lining, not something to scold them for.

  • I'm sure Dave's a nice guy, but imo he sort of exemplifies a couple of the major weaknesses in the 'equality movement.' The passage of Prop 8 was a huge setback for equality - not in CA where it was a slap on the fanny for a lot of complacent lgbts but had little substantive legal effect - but in all the states where just keeping your job is a big win and marriage equality is not on the horizon. So they sat out the vote and then threw a tantrum in the street, and that somehow advances equality?
