  • This is probably one of the best records made in the past 40 years for many, many reasons.

  • lol b.ferry is just otherworldly.

  • ""In Every Dream Home a Heartache" is a song written by Bryan Ferry, originally appearing on his band Roxy Music's second album.

Lyrically, the song is a sinister monologue, part critique of the emptiness of opulence"

So Bryan how is opulence now ?

  • @123321playstation Ha. His entire career has been a constant expression of opulence, not a denial of it. It makes opulence a joke. Why did Eno leave? Because it was a self-aware joke that became corrupted by its own lack of virtue... Call it "rock and roll." Eno made 3 amazing records, then became corrupted by the opposing theme, a complete lack of opulence. A kind of pastel drab infinity of windows start up menus, if you will.

  • @Mangina9000 Thats fair enough it just seems that he has turned his back on his routs

  • I believe that saxophonist Andy McKay is on keyboards, kind of unusual, and he is one of the mainstays of Roxy, still with them as far as I know. probably misses his ax.

  • who is on the bass?

  • @alessio6678 Jeez, I can't remember. They had kind of rotating bass players about every album or two. Maybe someone else knows. Otherwise, I will try to find it.

  • @alessio6678 Rik Kenton

  • @alessio6678 was it Johnny Gustaffson?

  • @alessio6678 It's John Deacon - from Queen, I believe ;)

  • WONDERLAND:)

  • BUT YOU BLEW MY MIND!!!!!!

  • see eno? he LOOKS LIKE HE'S 'UP TO HERE' W/MR. FERRY ALREADY...HE BAIL'D, NOT LONG AFTER THIS APPEARANCE ...1 XCELLENT TRACK.

  • lol 1:25 keyboard player is like "did i leave the iron on at home?.........mmmm no i switched it off"

  • Love this.

  • Simply brilliant.

  • my second-favorite song about an inflatable doll...

  • brian eno and brian ferry rule

  • this is on a upcoming film called "sushi girl" with mark hamil, hell of a trailer.

  • @xwalshyx Oh, I will have to watch for that one. I'll check out the trailer.

  • So fuck'n good...I deff..see why many Great musicians have covered it..

  • Thank you Fields of the Nephilim!

  • what to do there? better pray there

  • Dear Doizer: I will do my best not to insult or offend. This song is like no other; whether a classic is up to your taste. The love doll thing you must put into perspective: England (birthplace and success of Roxy Music) happens to be on a per capita basis (and for many years) perhaps the world leader of those having an inanamite lover. To discuss this subject (let alone write and perform a song) in the very early 70's was very progressive, if not, taboo. Create, do not hate, okay my friend?

  • one for the future

  • "My plain rapper baby.....Imortal and life size....I bought you mail order..."

"You float in my new pool...Delux & delietful...My breath is inside you....Lover ungreatfull... I blow up your body...But you blow my mind..."

This song is full of incredible lyrics. I can't say it's my favorite Roxy track as it's so dark, but at the time it was written it was way ahead of the times.

    An Iconic work.

  • I still say the symbolism is pretty dumb but I've never thought of the inflatable doll as a metaphor. Knowing Ferry's objectifying view of women, it's maybe not far off the mark.

  • i like the guy in green/blue.

    and heknows it

  • Scary as sh&t. ;-)

  • fantastic

  • @Dolzer Man (we assume) who "has it all" (house, good neighborhood, etc) has no connections to people...just a mail order date. Plastic life, plastic pal.

  • @Deposetheboyking Yes it is all about the symbolism and freakin awesome!!!!!!

  • @Dolzer plus the inflatable doll can also be read as a metaphor for all the dull, 'lifeless' women the character has full access to yet gets no satisfaction from

  • @Dolzer i agree, but it's corny because it's a cliche, and it's a cliche because it's true. i find that a lot in music i love.

  • Just shows how much better cocaine was in those days !

  • Now, how could you not love that?

  • 4:23 the bassist looks like Michael Imperioli, lol

  • John Deacon is playing the bass for them.

  • Bungalow Ranch Style!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Best song about blow-up doll love ever.

  • One of the best fucking things I've ever seen and heard anywhere at any point in life. lol

  • I blew up your body....But you blew my mind!!!!!!

  • I've tried to hold my eyes open as long as he does and can't. He must have been well-hydrated and used a pint of Visine before the show.

  • @Deposetheboyking Sheesh you're right, he hardly ever blinks! It's quite freaky haha. It's amazing how he performs and almost acts out the lyrics

  • Blink, damn you!!

  • Brill! I have the 1970s vinyl LPs but unashamedly trawl YouTube for items such as yours!

I have video captures from that era, which I might now find & "digitize"?

  • @020djm Please do...would be great to see!

  • it's perfect

  • thats how it was done back then !!

fuck still get a kick when I listen to this (Roxy) music !!!

  • he never blinks after the guitar solo :D

  • bicycle tyre repair kits for sale..also large selection of bicycle pumps....just visit ''ITS ROUND THE BACK IF YOU WANT IT''.com.....

  • In my opinion, this is one of Roxy Music's greatest achievements. A beautifully haunting single from an utterly brilliant album. Anything recorded with the legendary Brian Eno is in a class of it's own.

  • Pure genius.

  • This track could have been on Bowies Diamond dogs! And that aint taking away from the genius that is early roxy! So dont get your knickers in a twist! all you roxy freeks!!!! Fuckin class though! Immortal and lifesize. My breath is inside you, I'll dress you up daily! Bring back the freeks!!! Its like the world has returned to the 50's again and this freeky shit needs the revolt the masses again! The mental music and the likes of Bowie, Bolan, and Eno!! Im going off to shave my eye brows off!

  • 'Bungalow ranch style'!

  • @maclennan73 only good comment i seen on here

  • What in the heck is up with Andy McKay's outfit?!?

  • OMG2. Super good. Eno's synth is groundbreaking. Phil Manzanera rocks.

  • for deirdre

  • I blew up your body. But you blew my mind. - Brilliant.

  • My personal favorite Roxy album is the one on which this song appears (For Your Pleasure). There are some great songs on there. I like them all, but the first half of their debut album is something else on my list. Siren is great too. Country Life has some great tunes as does Stranded. Lots of songs from all of these are on You Tube if you want to listen before you buy! Have fun!

  • @Deposetheboyking Pitty the keyboard guy has needle marks on his arm,. pretty sad really!

  • @fenthedog Not seeing that at all. One mark low forearm could be about anything. This band was not known for big drug activity, just lots of, well, ladies. Andy (keyboard player) has since graduated from divinity school.

  • @fenthedog That's a mole or something. Have you ever actually seen junkie's needle-tracked arm?

  • @fenthedog Maybe it was because of a mosquito? Come on, don't be so bad thinking! Otherwise, early 70's and a rock star, extremely hard time for avoiding all kind of drugs,

  • I love Roxy Music (as much as someone who only knew the album Avalon and the Best Of can) and did not know this song, only heard of it before. My friend posted this on facebook..creepy. And awesome. I love Eno and his ridiculous outfit. Can anyone recommend any other stuff? (That wouldn't have been on avalon or best of, obviously.)

  • @glortw You could try The bogus man,Remake/ Remodel or Ladytron for starters.Roxys first two albums are amazing.Roxys early stuff is light years better than Avalon etc...

  • @affectionatepunch thanks! i know ladytron, i will look for the other two. i don't dislike avalon..but the stuff on the best of i like a lot better. i feel that they were rather out of their minds. i mean who the hell thinks of stuff like this?

  • Gothic

  • okay, will do. bloomin brilliant ty :))

  • I bought you mail order

    My plain wrapper baby

    Your skin is like vinyl

    The perfect companion

    You float my new pool

    De luxe and delightful

    Inflatable doll

My role is to serve you...

    Creepy yet genious

  • best lyricist i ever heard, thanks for posting.

  • I finally found this ! I've had this clip on video for decades.. A must for EVERY old Roxy Music fan. A great track , from their finest album, (Brian F agrees), and one of the best ever made!

  • This is good.. ..but it ain't as good as the Musikladen, German Live vids. Which U Tube has deleted....along with the rest.

WHY?...If it was copyright thing, then ALL Musikladen vidios would have been deleted,..... which they have not.

YouTube sucks up........maybe too it's Saudi financiers.!

  • @Kristopful Musikladen vids are awesome...A few were deleted because I think the poster was banned or unsubscribed? Not sure. I didn't think Germany or a lot of other European countries had the same copyright restrictions we do in the US. As for Saudi financiers, I don't know what they would have to do with this. Then again, little surprises me anymore with them and their dealings.

  • @Kristopful Agree!

  • Judging by how he is barring the whole fretboard for every note, he may have just tuned his guitar to an open d or d# and strummed the bar chords which is easy if he can't play the guitar.

  • @Sirias74 think its open E or open Eb to Barre like that.

  • Thumbs up if this blew your head up!

  • Think U said it all - the best of the "first" Roxy music! :0)

  • This song and mother of pearl changed my life and my taste in music! THANK YOU ROXY MUSIC!!!!

  • @Minus42Zero Mother of Pearl remains my favorite Roxy song ever.

  • INCREDIBLE !!! MAGNIFICIOUS !!!! I LOVE THIS TITLE !!!!! Plus rien n'est comme çà aujourd'hui, citez moi qq chose qui approche la plante des pieds de ce morceau svp?

  • Fuckn awesome song

  • Damn fine tune.

  • Jesus' favorite live band is ROXY MUSIC

  • It always amazes me that this song was released in 1973. I listened to it for the first time in 1984 after buying the Viva live album. What did listeners think of it back then?

  • They just don't get any better then this..incredible song !!!

  • so dramatic, brian ferry has got such an incredible look

  • This song was no doubt decades ahead of its time!!

  • The Roxy Music with Brian Eno was incomparable with the latter incarnations.yes they were more successful, and smoother, but never as innovative.

  • is of theur first or second album?

  • @yellow1laces This is from their 2nd Album..."For your Pleasure..".

Considered their best album by many Roxy fans....but I think their 1st album "Roxy Music.." is their best.

I love their early work, and the later....but their early work was the most innovative and ground breaking. Nothing like this has been done then...or since.

  • i love this song... it's so satirical... the infatuation with materialism (literally) and the emptiness that holds...

this song will always be a treasure as long as people misplace their love like this

  • @OMGitsSeppie And the "religion" of materialism. The whole song is really poignant.

  • This is just the so BAD ASS

  • Usually everything on Old Grey Whistle test was live; that was the whole point. However, Brian Ferry can't/doesn't play the guitar, which is confusing...

  • @xeractus Exactly xeractus. I don't think I've seen any other vid of him playing guitar. And the sound does not seem to match up with what his hands are doing. I'm not a guitar player though so I am probably way wrong on this.

  • @xeractus Notice, his guitar is the only one NOT connected to an amplifier! In those days they needed cables, like the rest of the band has.

But he did cling to a guitar when performing this song. See other versions on YouTube.

  • @comradevinyl

I see a cable connected to his guitar, it looks like it is passing thru the strap and behind the body though. I noticed it pretty clearly at 4:13

I don't think his amp is on though, heh.

  • The most interesting song ever..well one of them anyway.

  • Superlative!

  • Great song!

Anyone else notice Brian doesn't blink in this vid???

  • @CSXer Isn't that strange? I tried to not blink as long as he did and was miserable. He doesn't move.

  • @Deposetheboyking LOL!!! I tried to not blink that long and couldn't pull it off!

  • This is a brilliant bloody song

  • "You float in my new pool, deluxe and delightful..."

They don't write 'em like THAT anymore, sadly...

  • Oh. My God. Awesome. No one can improve on this.

  • Why does Brian Ferry look like Lou Diamond Phillips here?

  • This is such a brilliantly bonkers song. The chilling, hypnotic build and then the self indulgent solo's plus those bizare cloying lyrics. Awesome

  • Beautiful ! Thanx !!!

  • They became too "poppy" for me towards the end of their lifespan. The earlier stuff is the best and way darker.

    This is a top tune.

  • I really enjoy how Bryan acts his lyrics in this song and not overacts them. No fancy moves and show-off vocals. Plain simple and sentimental. You can really notice that by his somehow empty, compelling though gaze throughout the song!

  • this isn't live is it?

  • I think this is from the Old Grey Whistle Test show. Lots of conflicting info out there, but it sounds like they would sing the actual lyrics and then the rest of the music was "faked". Not sure what I believe on that. This video is a repost from someone else who was, um, kicked out :)

  • According to Wikipedia it's from a programme called the "Beat Club". That's if you can believe Wikipedia.

  • Comment removed

  • @Deposetheboyking + Dan + keowno :

No, this is not at the German 'Beat-Club' TV studio in Bremen.

Yes, the Germans did also record some gigs at the Marquee Club in London, but according to the wall grid in this ROXY video, it is clearly from The Old Grey Whistle Test at BBC studios.

Most of the performances were actually LIVE voice and 'play-along LIVE' instruments with the tape plus some obvious post-processed dubbing.

But still, ..such a great live band !!!

    thnx 4 the up.

  • I'v only just found this band, and this song is one of my favorite of all time! Lyrically and musically beautiful.

  • If you listen to San Simeon on Bryan's solo album Frantic, you'll hear the "rest" of this song. He shortened it before the album was released and the remainder was reworked for this later album.

  • .....but you blew my mind !!!!!

  • You float in my new pool

    deluxe and delightful

Don't write them like that anymore!

  • Wow.

    Nothing more to say...
